I remember reading this in 5th grade as a class. We had to write book reports for every chapter and draw a picture of what happened. At the end of the year, we took a field trip to the movie theater. That was 16 years ago.
The book is so much sadder too. I think the point was that she taught him how to have self confidence and enjoy the little things and her death is what gave him the push to apply those lessons in his life even if just to honor her memory. Also it really illustrates how you don’t always fully appreciate what someone means to you until they’re gone so value them while they’re still here.
