This is armchair psychology, but I think it has a lot to do with how male/female worth is measured also. BPD makes your weak sense of identity crave reassurance and justification. You want people to tell you that you're not a bad person. But if they DO tell you that you're a bad person... your ego isn't stable enough to refuse that and will accept it on some level.
It's much more socially acceptable for women to present themselves as weak and in need of help. They can say they need to rely on someone to heal... even if they're just naturally craving someone to mirror off of.
But that's unforgivable for men. So that means that they're DOUBLE a bad person because they're failing by bringing it up also. So they avoid people because they're clearly a human contaminant, so they're left with no one solidifying their sense of self and identity...
