I have both Legion 5 Years Later omnibus plus the original run in comic form. How much money can I conceivably get flipping the two 5 Year Later omnibuses at this point? Or should I wait?
Is there a reason we don't have Simpsons comic trades from Marvel now that Disney owns the Simpsons franchise? You'd think they'd be churning out omnibuses of the Bongo comic series by this point.
i have questions about nemesis the warlock trades. which ones are the most extensive? which ones to i get to read the whole story? is that a stand alone?
https://i.imgur.com/g74kxvm.jpg
traded in new mutants omnibus, v for vendetta, from hell and i think comic version of the stand, using it for store credit to get most of the love and rockets books. almost done with the jaime books (odd numbered volumes)
Thank you been collecting since 2014. Here’s a shady piece of advice get your friends who are bad with money into this hobby and when they bite off more than they can chew buy their books off them for cheap

You should see some of those morons over at Reddit that bought thousands of dollars worth of books during the pandemic. Even over paying on oop books I’m shock how irresponsible they are

I'm always floored by the people who show off 20+ omnis collections and say I just started collecting last month.

It probably takes a whole month to even read a decent-sized omnibus so those people just get them as interior decoration elements
2 years ago
Anonymous
If that's all I'm doing I can knock one out in a few days. Most good sized Omnis only have about 30-35 issues. that's not a month to read.
That said, why do you fricking even care about how other people spend their money? Are you their dad or something? Autism? I don't get it.

Because those people buy things from a very limited pool of things and I would prefer to have those things for myself.

thats what got me hot under the collar i make good money but even i have to pace my self and unable to get everything i want. yet i see post like this is 6 months of collecting and they have 30 plus omnis and every marvel shit on shelf unopen. how are they able to piss away so much is beyond me.
>THE SANDMAN: OVERTURE #1-6, THE SANDMAN: THE DREAM HUNTERS (illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano) and THE SANDMAN: THE DREAM HUNTERS #1-4 (adapted by P. Craig Russell), THE SANDMAN: ENDLESS NIGHTS, SANDMAN MIDNITE THEATRE #1, DEATH: THE HIGH COST OF LIVING #1-3 and DEATH: THE TIME OF YOUR LIFE #1-3, plus stories from VERTIGO: WINTER’S EDGE #1 and 3 and much more!
Read like 80% of my manga just waiting for some series to wrap up or finish collecting. And the marvel and DC is like less than half. It’s a chore reading on my current table. And the miscellaneous shelf is like 60%
It was a short story from the 80s that Richard McGuire expanded into a graphic novel. It follow a certain place throughout the history and its residents and changes. It experiments and plays with the comic book form by having different scenes/panels from different eras at the same page/spread.
Book by Richard McGuire, the whole thing takes places with the perspective locked in the same position and will show you what happens there at different times throughout history usually showing multiple time periods at the same time with panels and takes place over hundreds of years, most of the time it's just the corner of a room showing who lived there. It's worth checking out and then if you are into it the book is pretty cool physically because it feels almost like a flip book with the fixed camera position.
Essentially yeah I guess. It's definitely not exclusively an X-Men book as there are other characters who pop up and play big roles, I'll not spoil them but you can see Venom and Hulk on the first page although most characters are from X-Men.
It's a good story with cool art which takes place in a Japanesified Marvel universe
Nta but while she draws good Momoko is pretty meh at writing, especially character development. It's always so fricking predictable and boring or non existent, she should let someone else do the writing.
It's the only one there I haven't read yet as I just picked up, I loved Jeff Lemire's other work especially Essex County and this looks similar with even better art so I'm excited to read it. Heard good things
Peach Momoko's writing kind of sucked by including Thor/Storm and a cliche story, but at least the art was okay. The collected edition is too big though.
I've been reading Providence in the past week, got to say I love how thickly packed with Lovecraft references it is. It's like reading League of Extraordinary Gentlemen except t's all drawing from a single source.
Hawkworld is underrated too.
It's The George Herriman Library: Krazy & Ignatz 1916-1918. It collects the Krazy Kat Sunday pages from those years. The prototype for cat vs mouse stories. The cat loves the mouse while the mouse tries to throw a brick at the mouse.
It had many fans including very acclaimed writers and artists like James Joyce or Picasso but there have been many comic creators and fans who didn't "get it" despite being a fan of other acclaimed comic strips and comics so one shouldn't feel bad if it's not for them. Many say to read a page or two in a day but I can read multiple without any detriment to my enjoyment.
No but I'm aware of it. The same publisher of Krazy Kat, Fantagraphics, did a reprint collection of Squeak in April.
How good is The Question bros? I literally never heard anyone talk about it until this omni got printed, worth checking out or is it just hyped up because it took so long to come out?
People were b***hing all the time about DC not keeping it in print before the omnibus was announced. If you like noir stories with some martial arts mixed in check it out. I'd say it's a step above Dennis O'Neil's Batman work in terms of writing. Just read a couple issues online and see how you like it.
It was fairly liked and was among the comic runs in CBR's Top 100 Comic Book Runs back in the day. A bit forgotten since the trades were out of print. Some Ditko Question fans don't like it since it's a different direction for the character.
Really?
It seems like people never stfu about it. It’s been story timed at least once this year too.
The art is pretty good, but it’s the weakest thing about it.
No thanks, I just remember some folks b***hing for years that it wasn't in print and how stupid that was and then earlier in the tear some folks were blowing a gasket because the release date was pushed back a few months. If vol 1 won't sell and vol 2 us never going to come out then I will laugh my ass off.
I've seen some fans of that run claim it would be a guaranteed hit and would sell so much that it would eclipse the other capeshit DC has ever put out and they don't want that. Now you're begging for people to buy it, interesting.

Anyone got good suggestions for romance comics for a girl in her mid-20s? My gf has expressed interest in trying comics and says that's the genre she's looking for, but unfortunately I've never read a romance comic in my life.
If it helps, she's Asian with a love of K-Dramas so Manga might be more suitable but she's open to western stuff too.
Snotgirl by Leslie Hung maybe? My gf just got one called Young Men In Love that just came out that's an anthology of gay romance shorts (if that wasn't obvious), not my speed at all but sounds like the right vibe for yours
Western comics is try habibi by Craig Thompson. And strangers in paradise
Manga. I’d actually recommend Komi can’t communicate. It’s a friendship story first and romance second. So the buildup actually feels better than most romance mangas. Also fruits basket is a classic love triangle romance
Sunstone. Thank me later.
Princess Jellyfish
Paradise Kiss
NANA
Honey and Clover
Nodame Cantabille >it's all manga
Yes
Thanks for all the suggestions, that gives me a fair few ideas to start with

Yeah, the only western straight up romance on my shelf is Sunstone, and while fantastic, the subject matter is a small hurdle to pass.
For manga, try Kimi Ni Todoke, DNAngel, Ouran High School Host Club, and Dress Up Darling if the translation isn't shit.
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm tempted to get Sunstone for myself anyway but I feel like I'd best start her off with something a bit softer or more conventional.
>I feel like I'd best start her off with something a bit softer or more conventional.
Then grab Harleen, it's the Sunstone's author retelling Mad Love in long form.
She'll read Harleen, love the storytelling and art, and oh look what else is on your bookshelf, more of Sejic's work, two meaty volumes worth! What's this, it's Lesbian BDSM Erotica, how lewd, but I am liking the story so far, I'll keep reading a little further, huh the lighter stuff seems fun maybe we can try that tonight.
And pretty soon you're learning proper knotwork and rope care and your hands smell like leather oil.
That said, Nana to Kaoru is getting printed in the fall, keep an eye out for that.

What do you call those little display things you have the Frazetta and Nick Fury books in? They look perfect for some of the larger books I want to flip through daily, would they hold an Artist Edition?
Could've sworn Dixon scripted both Zaffino Punisher GNs. Was Jo Duffy the first woman to write Punisher? Also just realized the Sandman connective tissue here - Hardcore is by Alec Stevens who drew an issue or two IIRC, and Enchanter's drawn by Mike Dringenberg who obviously came on after Kieth. Unfortunately Enchanter's third issue was its last - it came back years later under a different artist

Not that anon but I have some of my books in up to three rows because there's literally no space for new shelves. Part of why I never bother taking pictures of them since you'd only see a fraction of what I have.

Moving in over a month and need to get new shelving units, is Kallax the only decent long-term bookshelf for Ikea? Had that other one with the longer shelves but they always warp like a c**t with heavier books.
Also, I've usually always gone for the white ones but some of the black ones here look a bit classier. My studio is gonna have white walls, so do you guys think the black will look alright against them?
unless you want to go the custom route, kallax is your only option for those heavy books. everything else just warps and you have to replace 4/5yrs later
I'd recommend BILLY since they are sturdy as frick and if you properly place your omnis and TPBs then FINNBY are pretty good as well. you really just have to see that you put your omnis on the fixed shelves of a FINNBY and not the movable ones or the pins that hold them will break. they are also deep and high enough to hold Absolutes
The Billy I had was not good. Definitely noticed a sag on some of the shelves. It was nice to have glass doors though. I wish the US would bring back glass doors for Kallax cubbies.
[...]
They're great, but they're often small and always expensive. I'm surprised more of the people who buy Billy cases don't get the doors, though. If they made doors for Kallax shelves I'd get them.
One of these days I'll stop being a gay and build my library shelves with doors. One day...
I think some Ikea stores in Europe still sell the Kallax cube doors.
they even have these, but it's kind of an inlay item so you lose some room inside the individual kallax boxes and I don't know if you can keep that glass shelf part out of it or not, if not then they are kinda worthless.
Those metal nubs are probably screw ins. Check out the instructions you can probably skip the inner shelf steps.

Clever, but too expensive for the amount of shelves I have. Plus, the back is open, and if I'm going to move everything off of these shelves again to close the back, I'm just going to nut up and build the shelves I've been playing for years. Thanks for sharing, though.
Would it be stupid to get Klegg Hai! (pt 76 of the Mega Collection) if I don't know anything about Judge Dredd? Recently read some sample pages about Sensitive Klegg and liked the character
Because by the time I started collecting them, the hardcover collections were out of print and starting to go for $200 a pop, and my OCD tendencies won't let me get the paperbacks
This shelf would be cringe were it not for the Jackie Chan Adventures talismans.
Has anyone bought artbooks from Taschen or Caurette? I was thinking of getting a nice artbook as a reward for myself before my next big haul (Question Omni + incal + some other euro stuff and manga). How is their binding/quality, and what particular artbooks would you recommend from either one? My tastes are pretty open, as I am a bit of a drawgay myself and like to use these as inspiration.
I've got two; the Jamie Hewlett artbook (the 1st print oversized edition), and the Dennis Hopper photographs collection - both of which are printed to the highest degree. There's a reason every rich wanker as a Taschen coffee table book in their house, because they exude quality. I highly rec the Jamie one though if you're into his art, very thorough and covers a lot of his career

my brother has the Star Wars Archive book by Taschen and he is very happy with it ("Last Star Wars product I will ever buy").
Caurette seems to be a French publisher, I have no experience with that.
>cover is actually printed instead of just lazy cardboard >less than 1000 pages, but uses decent matte paper that looks nice, so it's not woefully thick >nicely designed package all around with good looking starting and ending matter >collects previously uncollected material >ACTUALLY RELEASED
I only compared a few pages, but the new restoration might be better than old trades, too. They're pretty colorful, though, and I don't have the original issues to compare to, so I'm sure that's a hot topic for debate, but I'm very happy at a glance.
Questionbros... did we just fricking win?
Oh, and I forgot to mention, there's a warning at the beginning of the book about language and subject matter, so I assume the actual content is unedited. I can't confirm, but that warning has me hopeful. I'm ecstatic.
Colors look pretty 1:1 with the originals, but would still appreciate a comparison shot if anyone has some.
Shame The Question's art is so middle of the road. I feel like Cowan's art is often lacking in specifity and nuance to carry the severity and grandiosity of the book's themes a lot of the time.
Cowan's art starts OK but around 15-16, it goes horribly downhill and Vic himself suddenly stops looking like Vic Sage and you have Cowan basically drawing the lead singer of Whitesnake as Question complete with ugly as frick mullet and.
The only defense for Cowan's artwork is A. the long told rumor that he was explicitly told to make the book uglier and uglier and Vic uglier too, due to a certain plot plot that happens around the fourth trade paperback that heightens the whole "Hub City is hell on earth" theme and B. as bad as Cowan's work is, it's still nowhere NEAR as bad as the "The Question Returns" special's artist as O'Neill got stuck with a random nobody artist who threw a tantrum and refused to draw the book unless he was allowed to ignore the fact that the Question DOES NOT HAVE A FACE and draw Vic's eyes being visible while wearing the mask and O'Neill being stuck being made to give into the hack's demand because the artist waited until the very last minute to draw the issue, which was one of DC's fifth week event specials and DC told O'Neill (who had to call in favors to get the book, which wraps up the Vic/Myra arc left dangling in the main book) that if the book didn't ship on time, they wouldn't release it.

Skimming their website it looks like they specialize in bringing over '80s and '90s horror manga. Sounds based to me, guess they saw how well that Viz were doing off those Junji Ito localizations and wanted a piece of the action.
Yeah they're brand new, they just brought out the first new Hideshi Hino reprint in well over a decade and are looking to spotlight more horror manga it seems since Viz have blinders on for Ito (and a bit of Umezu too I guess).
It seems like smaller, boutique publishers are the only ones picking up where the main publishers are failing on stuff that's lesser-known/older/genre-atypical.
Don't think I've ever even heard of these guys before. Are they new?

What's the closest equivalent to Harry Potter for comics? I'm not a fan of HP specifically but I like the "wizarding world" type settings where the magic users are the norm rather than just special individuals.
First thing that comes to mind is naturally Books of Magic, whose protagonist looks suspiciously similar to Harry, but ten years before Rowling started writing.
I don't know if Freaks Squeele is officially translated, but it has a magic user's school.
Stretching it just a little bit, but look into Devil's Candy especially if you like cute shotas .
Can someone post the back side of the Question omnibus. Curious what the back blurb says and if it has the covers of the book on the back of it like a lot of more recent omnibuses have been doing.
As someone who has the entire Question series in trades, is the upgrade to the omnibus worth it? What new material is in the omnibus and is it required reading/worth spending $100 just for a couple of extra issues?
The previous uncollected material exclusive to the omnibus are three annuals from 1988: the first Question Annual, plus that years' Detective Comics and Green Arrow annuals.
They flesh out the Lady Shiva character plus establish a major unresolved plotline in the main Question book where we find out that Vic's real first name is Charles (a knod to criticism over how O'Neill's Question was an INO version of the Ditko version) and that he was abandoned as a baby and raised by abusive nuns in an orphanage, which is why Vic has such a temper and where his desire for the truth at all cost came from (both wanting to know who he was and why his parents rejected him, but also exposing the hellish abusive behavior of the nuns who ran the orphanage he grew up in).
All three parts are written by O'Neill (who for reasons, was allowed to write all of the Green Arrow Annuals during the Grell run and used them to do crossovers with other cape characters which Grell despised).
The manga Black Clover is a pretty big rip-off of Harry Potter, to it's detriment in a lot of ways and led to the anime version having to rewrite the main arc to make it more unique and less of a rip-off, which ironically helped save the anime.
What comics do you guys think had the best endings/were the most complete story wise? I'm looking for some comics to fill the void I've experienced in storytelling. Preferably non capeshit, but I'm good with capeshit adjacent stuff like Hitman.

Sorry bout the mess for the shelf but sometimes you gotta make do when your room of books is pretty cramped.
Books behind Spirit Circle and Aria are Ran and the Grey World, Girls Last Tour, Voynich Hotel.
Books Behind Flowers of Evil are the NGE manga adaption, Uzamaki and Ping Pong
Books behind DBZ and Blue Giant are full Vagabond Set.
Down the bottom right is Death Note, CSM and Fire Punch.
It doesn't recover after the prison arc either. It drops in quality in that arc(which drags on forever) and never recovers. Ending might be good though but that whole stretch from the prison arc to the last few chapters are not very good.

It does have an ending, but I don't know why you'd want one. Manga have terrible endings 100% of the time with NO EXCEPTIONS, just showing how little value the whole weeb comic format has. Don't waste your time with any of it.
I'd put more stock into what's on a person's shelf than just getting some random anon's opinion. They might be a negative Nancy.
Speaking of which- I have the Don Rosa Library Collection volumes 4 and 5, because those contain the bulk of Life & Times, and that didn't seem to be getting a reprint when I bought them.
How fricked am I if I want to fill out the collection?
your in a comic book board in a shelf thread the amount of mental illness and man children on here is staggering. im surprise we can even stay on topic for more than 6 posts
I don't understand how anyone one any sort of board dedicated to media can come to this
Not particularly. Are you interested in spoilers? Because you can never discuss said thing with that person on equal footing. And a simple "is it good or bad?" doesn't tell you much because the person you're asking's taste might not be compatible with yours.
guy's conclusion. What does he think reviews are? He also somehow changed the argument from asking people what they thought of a book they read, to the person who hasn't read it discussing their opinion of the book.
Just weird stuff.

Is dorohedoro any good? I saw the design for Noi and she fulfilled my muscle girl fetish.
At this point I can't even tell if the Question omni is actually good or if it's just a meme. Is it genuinely worth reading?
The first 38 issues with JRJR (most of omni vol. 1) are my favorite Spidey stories. More character driven stuff with Peter, Aunt May, and MJ.

I wouldn't say it turns bad but there is a large portion in the middle where a character is locked up and some people have a problem with that.

Why don't any of you people just try this stuff online and see if you like it first?
Both of the first guys have clearly never read the stuff they are asking about and the third guy just tells them to try them out for themselves instead.
morons like you have ruined online discussion because you act like moronic white knights that never have anything to say. People come here to discuss the things they've read with other people that have read that same thing, not with people that never read said thing. You strike me as the moronic shill kind that will decide he is a fan of something before said something ever comes out. You're shit.
>Both of the first guys have clearly never read the stuff they are asking about
Yeah, that's the point, dumb dumb. They're asking for the opinion of someone who has read it, they're not providing their own. The person who hasn't read it isn't "discussing" the book. You're not on "equal footing" with a reviewer when you read their write up, either.
You can then argue someone should just go read reviews, but an interactive scenario in a small community like this can be much more fruitful because you can ask follow up questions. Does that sound like an unreasonable amount of work for the guy answering? Then he doesn't have to respond. There's no obligation. The question can just go unanswered, like the guy who asked about The Question before you replied to him with not having "anything to say."
I don't understand your wild assumptions about me you included at the end. I've responded to plenty of people in the past when asked about books I've read. I hope that guy is right and that you're trolling, because you're a fricking freak.
Because people keep responding to obvious trolls
I'm a huge homosexual for it. Please rape my face, honestly.

Binary answers are, in fact, gay. I in no way advocated for them.

That's why you come here, certainly, but you're not a mod and you don't dictate the purpose of discussion here. We (and I said before, I personally) have had no problem with giving opinions beyond, "Yeah, it's good," in the past. Pretending that's not the case and then also being a huge angry homosexual about it is the worst part about your rant.

>>You can then argue someone should just go read reviews
Exactly, if you're the type of moron that prefers experiencing entertainment through second hand opinions then do that. Otherwise these moronic interactions are worthless trash. Come back after you've read it and then you can have a discussion about things you liked, things you thought didn't work and maybe if doing out stuff you missed or if you're not close minded, see why the parts you thought didn't work were actually very well done. Why are you so allergic to serious discussion? Why do you like these puerile interactions so much? Is it zoomer disease?

I'm not trying to bully people out of those interactions. What the frick are you talking about? This isn't a zero-sum situation. It's not either/or. Both have their place here. Unless you're you, of course, and your jannyhat is on too tight. >Exactly, if you're the type of moron that prefers experiencing entertainment through second hand opinions
Reviews are not an avenue of experiencing media. It's not their intent. I've never even seen someone imply that before you. This is why I started this shitshow of a reply chain with calling your behavior bizarre.

I'll be sure to continue having enjoyable interactions with people here, and they'll be even sweeter now knowing you're seething as I tell curious posters why I like a book when they ask.

Nah, bro. I don't mind asking someone's opinion of something on their shelf if you like a lot of stuff on their shelf but you have to be careful how to ask so you don't get the dry it's good answer, I guess this might be what you mean by follow up questions but you should just ask from the start what are the main themes, is it serious or rather quippy and what do you think of it in comparison to [insert something else] but that's kind of the issue, some people on Cinemaphile really loathe giving a small little spoiler free review about the themes and ideas in a comic and you kinda have to pull the answers out like you're pulling teeth, and then there are the fanboys that will try to sell you on something as if they're getting a profit from every sale.

you can ask follow up questions
something you haven't read >I guess this might be what you mean by follow up questions
You talked yourself into understanding exactly what I meant.
I think you're overthinking the entire exchange.
"Is this book good?" should really be read with an implied, "Why?" at the end. Again, binary answers are worthless; I never contested that. So it's in the interest of both people in this conversation to assume reasons as to why the book is good should be given. >some people on Cinemaphile really loathe giving a small little spoiler free review
Then they don't need to provide an answer, and the thread would continue operating as it was before this thread went homonuclear with its blood on my hands. >and then there are the fanboys that will try to sell you on something as if they're getting a profit from every sale
But if they truly believe what they're saying, does it matter? What's the difference between this fanboy and someone who is excited about a book? If someone is willing to layout and describe in detail why they like something, rather than just yell, "It's the best book ever!" at people, does that constitute a fanboy?
I think we essentially agree on this. Who doesn't enjoy hearing someone talk about something they love? Who loves something, but then doesn't want to talk about why? In a place specifically for that purpose, when specifically asked that question? If there are those people here, that's fine. They just ignore those posts and continue with the parts of these threads they like. It's worked for years. I don't see why that needs to change or be questioned now.
I'll help.
Here's some of my new stuff. I hunted down a full set of Ostrander Spectre floppies for pennies and i'm so happy since we'll never get a new collection until John dies.
>That Paul Pope
How does it measure up to his other material. I've only read a few things from him (Battling Boy, 100%) but I've enjoyed what he's made.
It's a pretty good love/heist story with a lot of short stories at the end, i liked it. I have only read Escapo and Batman 100 but i'd rank it under. Try it online it's short, fun and the art's great as usual
Will do, thanks for the info. By the way, does anyone know if Paul Pope or more indie artists go to conventions anymore? I have a list of people that I want to get more obscure work signed by, but I don't know if, post pandemic, they even go to conventions anymore. Also, is that hardcover still available for a reasonable price, or is it outrageously expensive and OOP?
Thanks anon, I remembered some anon a while back saying it wasn't good and i can't understand for the life of me why he'd think that. It's a solid crime story
Anyone hunt for signatures at cons? Got any cool stuff? Ive got my SHIELD omni signed by Steranko and Thomas, my Batman Cult signed by Starlin and Wrightson, my Dr Strange Triumph and Torment signed by Mignola, and my Absolute Top Ten signed by Ha and Cannon (and sketched) amongst others.

Picked up some Knightquest era Catwoman and some random issues of Captain Atom just because I like Pat Broderick for 100 yen each. Then I found Starman Omnibus Vol 1 and 2 for 500 yen each.
Not bad for $15 given the atrocious exchange rate lately.
I was pretty shocked myself. I decided to walk an hour in the rain just for exercise, ended up at a used book store, and just saw them on a shelf in the kids section. I looked around for the next few volumes, but couldn't find them anywhere.
I own maybe 90% of the series in floppies in America and had planned to bind them before moving, so I held off on reading them until I could complete the run. Just missing the first appearance of Courtney in Stars and Stripes or and the Hellboy/Batman/Starman issues, which are annoyingly pricey.

Nobody here appreciate bookshelves with doors? Dusting must be a nightmare.
They're great, but they're often small and always expensive. I'm surprised more of the people who buy Billy cases don't get the doors, though. If they made doors for Kallax shelves I'd get them.
One of these days I'll stop being a gay and build my library shelves with doors. One day...
Not pictured: Akira box set, Nausicaa box set, Elektra Omni, and Fury: My War Gone By OHC. Probably gonna get the Question Omni + some paul pope and berserk. May also get hellsing while im at it, but I might save it for my next big haul in a month or so (looking forward to the incal definitive edition rerelease and maybe megalex or the gimenez absolute/library edition that came out recently).
Also might get an artbook or two. PhilTomato's looked pretty good, either that or the Ashley Wood Library. Was gonna get the Art of MGS I-IV to reward myself for doing well in class recently, but it is too much fricking money. I do not have 700 dollars to burn on a single book, even if i really do like the art.
>Absolute Top 10
Anybody who doesn't own this is a goober.
Wholeheartedly agree. Love Alan Moore's more oddball/non Watchmen/Miracleman/Swamp Thing work. Got it signed by both Ha and Cannon a couple years back, both phenomenal people.
Ha is legitimately the nicest man ive ever met at a con. He's absolutely lovely. When he signed my Absolute Top Ten he sketched it with any character I wanted and I said the Ghostly Goose and this is what he did. Perfect.
I've been trying to contact Spink & Thackray for like four weeks now and they seem to just be ignoring my emails. I'm not sure if I should try Houchen instead, it's going to be a lot more expensive and a bit more complicated, but I really want an experienced bindery to bind this collection.
I like it. It's not the best book, but it's quick paced and has an interesting plot that could have resulted in some neat world-building. It definitely doesn't deserve to be DC's worst selling book of the last decade.
Oh I just realized Spink were the same group I've long bookmarked to check out, what's your experience with them been like? Would love to see some samples of what you've had done, also recs as to what format to go for (graphic cover or full cloth etc.)
This is actually my first time getting something bound, so I unfortunately don't have any info about them yet. I'll post it here if they ever get back to me though.
Please do, I've only ever seen the occasional custom binding shared here. Not sure what I'd get done first, but I'm leaning toward binding a complete collection of 'Ted McKeever at DC' that collects all of the various minis he did for them and Vertigo that have never been collected in trade; >Enginehead (6 issues) >Faith (5 issues) >Industrial Gothic (5 issues) >Junk Culture (2 issues) >The Extremist (4 issues) >LOTDK: Engines (2 issues)
So 24 issues total, which IIRC is around the max you'd wanna get bound in one volume
The older printing will probably be better, honestly.
honestly yeah odd that DC is the one putting out better quality books now in days

they did they were a bit expensive but looked beautiful back in 2016ish i thought about getting them but backed out.
ooof you boys had a weird shelf going. hopefully you guys took advantage of the Amazon sale of Scrooge macduck i got 2 for 90 bucks each. i also got to show off my collection to 2 detectives which was fun/awkward. i also just finished coloring my 3d resin print stand
my problem with them is that bookshelves with doors cost as much as 4-5 omnis. when my wishlist is finally depleted I will probably upgrade to shelves with doors.
I'd fricking love this. With tinted windows and inbuilt down lights so the spines don't fade from being in direct sunlight. The problems are they don't make them big enough for all my books, they take up even more space than normal shelves and are a lot more expensive. But if I ever hit it big I'll be buying a bunch of them.

yeah i dont even know were to begin with this story but the TLDR of it is my gfs dad came to my house while i was out in Baltimore and then tried to sexually harassed/make a move on my neighbors kid. who i might add is 17 and he is late 50s. the cops came when i was back in town to get the CCTV footage of my home and talk to me about him and why she was at my house in the first place. its a giant mess all around
yeah its wild i threw him under the bus too, i gave the cops all the footage and didnt cover for him. what he told me was he was over at my house because he wanted to check it out to see if he liked it to rent it from me after i moved to my new place. keep in mind i didnt give him permission or offer to rent it to him and now im in a weird place with my trashy neighbor and gf about this whole thing. the cops were impressed
I don't own any physical porn/hentai, although there are a few topless women in my normal comics here and there
and ask for rec for there kid though that part was nice
long story short my neighbor is a single mom that really didnt take care of the kid or have internet. when she was 14 she would come around/jump the fence into my house and ask to use my Internet to do her homework.worst part of it was that the mom didnt even own the house she stole it from my neighbor after they got married she divorce him and took his house from him.
That's all, if you have question about some of this shit (if even, i have mainly popular things) I would gladly answer in this/next thread. I mainly buy stuff blindly

Hitman and Delicious in Dungeon are both very good.
well it has a 2 tome stuff-in-the-past-with-vampires arc and the last third of the book is just a long fighting tournament but overall I think it's good if you binge it. I may be shallow but the final revelation of the book really surprised me and kinda felt like it was worth to be dragged out.
Giant days is a comedy/slice of life. One of the best which I ever read in this genre. 3 girls live in academy in England, in later parts their start working in different jobs/become interns and other things some drama, love, strange situations etc.. Very comfy comic. First five chapters are worse than rest imo. It was finished some time ago (two years ago? Perhaps). It started from some paranatural webcomic so in first maybe 15 chapters you will see some fantasy things/explanations (but maybe a 2/3 times). Truly i recomending this comic, but it will be better if a first 10 chapters you will read online, to be sure that this is your kind of book.
fellow Yuropoor here, how many comics get translated over in Poland (as a rough estimate or how much you've noticed)? They very VERY rarely do here and I get it, the market for it is small. At best we'll get some stuff translated into Russian since they're our biggest minority and Russia itself is a bigger market, but I don't speak the language.
The polish guy here. You are wondering how many comics are translated into polish? We have publishers for DC, marvel, image comics, some dark horse, a lot of french stuff is also translated here. Indie comics are rare if not impossible to get in polish, unfortunately. - but who normally will translate f.e. empowered, c'mon. And tbh if you know English it is better to order comics from Amazon/bookdepository, before this inflation jump f.e. giant days cost me a 8 euros maybe? Polish version cost me a 40 zlotys so 40/4.3 (euro converter) and I think after the inflation they will be still cheaper.
thanks for the answer. I actually expected more Indie stuff to get translated over there, but I guess I don't have a good overview of the overall translation market in the bigger Yuro countries. >And tbh if you know English it is better to order comics from Amazon/bookdepository, before this inflation jump
oh sure, I do that here as well. DC and Marvel are gonna be significantly cheaper ordering online from them. Locally, the markup is YUGE in some cases and the rise of prices isn't helping. Mind you, I get a larger discount since I work at a bookstore, but still.
Nice collection. Refreshing lack of capeshit.
Yeah... Unfortunately, I also have essentially the entire DC timeline.

I have both Legion 5 Years Later omnibus plus the original run in comic form. How much money can I conceivably get flipping the two 5 Year Later omnibuses at this point? Or should I wait?
Volume 1 can get you from $200-500 given how it's OOP and you don't even see it on Ebay these days or even used on Amazon.
But I'd wait. Demand for these frickers will go up even further as time passes. Hell, several of the Legion Archives go for $200-300 a pop these days.
Is there a reason we don't have Simpsons comic trades from Marvel now that Disney owns the Simpsons franchise? You'd think they'd be churning out omnibuses of the Bongo comic series by this point.
Disney licences other publishers to reprint their Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse comics. So that situation isn't anything new.
Here's what I got this week.

i have questions about nemesis the warlock trades. which ones are the most extensive? which ones to i get to read the whole story? is that a stand alone?
traded in new mutants omnibus, v for vendetta, from hell and i think comic version of the stand, using it for store credit to get most of the love and rockets books. almost done with the jaime books (odd numbered volumes)
What I've got here is the Deviant Edition, which is the whole story in a full color hardcover. Get that.

Thank you been collecting since 2014. Here’s a shady piece of advice get your friends who are bad with money into this hobby and when they bite off more than they can chew buy their books off them for cheap
Haha. Brilliant.
that's quite a collection
How do you even pay off your house?
Not that anon but as someone with over 30k put into comics, having a job helps a lot.
Probably the same way he pays for comics
Not everyone here is a neet or student with a crippling atudent loan debt
And it’s not like anyone bought all their stuff all at once either.

I'm always floored by the people who show off 20+ omnis collections and say I just started collecting last month.
It probably takes a whole month to even read a decent-sized omnibus so those people just get them as interior decoration elements
Those things were not going to sit around until you got your shit together, anon. Somebody else will always get there first.
>If that's all I'm doing
Yeah, being unemployed and reading comics full time really lets you make a dent in your backlog, but everyone doesn't have that privilege
I work nightshifts in a hotel (shift starting in 15 minutes). I have like 2 hours of work and 6 hours to kill so comics are great
That sounds nice. Brandon Sanderson wrote 13 novels working the nightshift as a hotel receptionist
And all of them are shit so that's not a sign of quality
It doesn't matter how shit they are, he's a millionaire now all thanks to a comfy job.
that sounds pretty comfy i take it you dont deal with crazies/homeless then? if your into audio books aswell i highly rec dungeon crawler carl
Yeah I'll have to work through my insane backlog of 200+ novels first before even thinking of audio books
Yeah, weekends are a thing. Even so it still doesn't take a month.
If I were unemployed I wouldn't have all these comics.
thats what got me hot under the collar i make good money but even i have to pace my self and unable to get everything i want. yet i see post like this is 6 months of collecting and they have 30 plus omnis and every marvel shit on shelf unopen. how are they able to piss away so much is beyond me.

Read like 80% of my manga just waiting for some series to wrap up or finish collecting. And the marvel and DC is like less than half. It’s a chore reading on my current table. And the miscellaneous shelf is like 60%
Invest in a good bookstand and you can read on any flat surface
Been a while since I seen a /shelf/ thread, here are my pickups since the last one.
The heck is "Here"?
I saw someone talking about that Demon Days book the other day - what exactly is it? Like X-Men vs Yokai or something?
Essentially yeah I guess. It's definitely not exclusively an X-Men book as there are other characters who pop up and play big roles, I'll not spoil them but you can see Venom and Hulk on the first page although most characters are from X-Men.
It's a good story with cool art which takes place in a Japanesified Marvel universe
That's fricking cool, love the imitation ukiyo-e style. Any other good pages you'd be game to share?
Nta but while she draws good Momoko is pretty meh at writing, especially character development. It's always so fricking predictable and boring or non existent, she should let someone else do the writing.
The rest of the book is generally less abstract so it doesn't look like ukiyo-e as much although there are pages and characters with that style
That's a shame, but nevertheless that looks really good. I'll have to put it on the to-do list.
Is Mazebook good? And Demon Days looks interesting.
It's the only one there I haven't read yet as I just picked up, I loved Jeff Lemire's other work especially Essex County and this looks similar with even better art so I'm excited to read it. Heard good things
Peach Momoko like all other japs suck at writing. The rest are pretty good.
Peach Momoko's writing kind of sucked by including Thor/Storm and a cliche story, but at least the art was okay. The collected edition is too big though.
Mazebook was kinda underwhelming imo. But Nao of Brown is fantastic. Wish Glynn did more comic work.
I posted this the last time but I’ll post it again. My most recent purchases from the past few months
I've been reading Providence in the past week, got to say I love how thickly packed with Lovecraft references it is. It's like reading League of Extraordinary Gentlemen except t's all drawing from a single source.
Hawkworld is underrated too.
Providence is great. Its really jarring reading it after the silliness of Neonomicon.
What’s the bottom book called and what’s it about ?
It's The George Herriman Library: Krazy & Ignatz 1916-1918. It collects the Krazy Kat Sunday pages from those years. The prototype for cat vs mouse stories. The cat loves the mouse while the mouse tries to throw a brick at the mouse.
Oh wow I def need to check it out. Spy vs spy really takes notes from this especially with the noses. Have you ever read squeaks the mouse ?
It had many fans including very acclaimed writers and artists like James Joyce or Picasso but there have been many comic creators and fans who didn't "get it" despite being a fan of other acclaimed comic strips and comics so one shouldn't feel bad if it's not for them. Many say to read a page or two in a day but I can read multiple without any detriment to my enjoyment.
No but I'm aware of it. The same publisher of Krazy Kat, Fantagraphics, did a reprint collection of Squeak in April.
Hawkworld is great. Truman is always worth picking up. If you like it you should read his Jonah Hex and The Kents
Thanks for making the /shelf/ post OP!
Threre's con here this weekend and I'm hoping to snag some trades/omnibuses while I'm there.
My last purchase. Maybe I’ll post my shelves later. No point if people are commenting.
The Question omnibus finally came out?
Well volume 1 did. Go buy it so we get a volume 2.
No thanks, I just remember some folks b***hing for years that it wasn't in print and how stupid that was and then earlier in the tear some folks were blowing a gasket because the release date was pushed back a few months. If vol 1 won't sell and vol 2 us never going to come out then I will laugh my ass off.
>if this obscure book that with a dedicated but small fanbase doesn't sell well, I'll laugh my ass off
Interdasting.
I've seen some fans of that run claim it would be a guaranteed hit and would sell so much that it would eclipse the other capeshit DC has ever put out and they don't want that. Now you're begging for people to buy it, interesting.
You've never seen anyone claim anything like that. Please stop shitting up the thread.
You're so mad.
It's just an omni bro
How's Blade of the Immortal?
Turns bad about halfway through.
Does it have an ending or is it one of those series that goes on forever and ever?
It does have an ending, but I don't know why you'd want one. Manga have terrible endings 100% of the time with NO EXCEPTIONS, just showing how little value the whole weeb comic format has. Don't waste your time with any of it.
I like the ending to Naausicca where you find out that nobody ever got laid afterward.
w-what?
>Manga have terrible endings 100%
Filtered capetard detected.
>NOOO I DON'T WANT THAT I WANT MIKASA-CHAN TO KEEP LOVING ME AFTER I DIE NOOO PLEASE I'M BEGGING YOU DON'T HAVE SEX WITH ANOTHER MAN
Attack on Titan was supposed to be peak of your medium, and this is the ending it has? Pitiful. Cinemaphile has nothing of value to contribute to these threads.
>Attack on Titan was supposed to be peak of your medium
Lmao
You know what you sound like? Here, let me play your opposite
>western comic books are pure fricking shit. I read The Unfunnies and it was garbage, I read the current Fantastic Four series and it was awful. I read Girls and it was terrible. Is that all western comics have to offer? Pathethic.
With the exception that you purposefully picked obscure series nobody has ever read while I picked one of the highest selling, highest profile series.
None of those are obscure. The Unfunnies is quite famous and it's written by one of the biggest names in comics.
>fantastic four
>obscure
Come on bro at least try a little bit harder if you are going to troll
>Attack on Titan was supposed to be peak of your medium
Wow, you really are a capetard. Somehow, I'm not surprised.
Almost any ongoing series has a bad ending. It's almost by nature of the form.
Lazy-ass, broke-ass OP.

Uber might actually get finished sometime next year. Odds Avatar will release a hardcover complete collection?
>none of them sells steve lichman
Why does that fricker not want my money just because I'm not a burger?!
hope keeps us alive but avatar is just one guy left with mountains of debt. writers and artist havent been paid on worked already done that ship is dead anon.
>they are concentrating
>because I'm not a burger?!
oh hey anon its because of you that i got those books sight on seen. they were a fun read and felt smug knowing you couldnt have them
>i got those books because e-girltrolu
Of course you did. And of course you have a timestamped pic of them, next to your monitor displaying this thread, to prove it.
Not to troll you but when you talk about it being mad about him not selling to eurotrash I got curious looked into it and saw it was fantasy so I bought it
>no timestamp
badtroll/10
Did it really take you this long to google a suitable image and edit it enough to not show up on reverse searches?
Same problem with Steve Lichman.
And I was eyeing that Uber boxed set
dont get the uber box set its not worth it, when i got it i thought it was going to be a nice hard box but its a very thin plastic box that will fall apart if mishandle. i love the series but it was a mistake getting it
Anyone got good suggestions for romance comics for a girl in her mid-20s? My gf has expressed interest in trying comics and says that's the genre she's looking for, but unfortunately I've never read a romance comic in my life.
If it helps, she's Asian with a love of K-Dramas so Manga might be more suitable but she's open to western stuff too.
Snotgirl by Leslie Hung maybe? My gf just got one called Young Men In Love that just came out that's an anthology of gay romance shorts (if that wasn't obvious), not my speed at all but sounds like the right vibe for yours
Thanks for all the suggestions, that gives me a fair few ideas to start with
Western comics is try habibi by Craig Thompson. And strangers in paradise
Manga. I’d actually recommend Komi can’t communicate. It’s a friendship story first and romance second. So the buildup actually feels better than most romance mangas. Also fruits basket is a classic love triangle romance
Sunstone. Thank me later.
Princess Jellyfish
Paradise Kiss
NANA
Honey and Clover
Nodame Cantabille
>it's all manga
Yes
Mines really enjoyed saga, strangers in paradise, sunstone and unnatural
Yeah, the only western straight up romance on my shelf is Sunstone, and while fantastic, the subject matter is a small hurdle to pass.
For manga, try Kimi Ni Todoke, DNAngel, Ouran High School Host Club, and Dress Up Darling if the translation isn't shit.
And Peach Girl
Thanks again anon, I'll give that a shot
Our Precious Conversations was great, and I'm saying this as a guy that usually drops shoujoshit one tanko in because it's trash.
Haven't gotten around to reading Mysterious Girlfriend X yet, but for what it's worth the adaption actually made me think the protag was a piece of shit for continuing to read the swimsuit magazine the moment the girlfriend left even though she just told him she don't like it. Ignore the last part if the main goal is lovey dowey uguu shit.
Strangers in Paradise
Blankets
Saga
Habibi
Y the last man and fables aren't romance but they both have very good stuff about developing relationships in them.
Also check out Manara's stuff. It's erotica but my wife loves it and she fricks my brains out every time she reads some of his stuff
Habibi

Been a while since I've posted
Is Kamen Rider good? Also you're missing two good Cerebus books.
I think so yeah, though I'm a bit biased as a fan of Ishinomori's work. And yeah I really have to fill out my Cerebus trades
an amazing collection. i have the same Red Sonja book. it's short but it's beautiful. beautiful Pogo collection and many others. How is the Batman / Maxx book? i love Sam's work but i always don't trust him as a writer.
just joined the thread, could instantly tell that people were discussing the Question omni.
Re-ordered my shelves to make room for new Omnis in my heavy-duty shelf.
Newest stuff are Fantastic Four by Hickman, Final Night, Boy's Club and Nocturnals.
Funny thing about that Nocturnals Vol 2 omni. >see delivery progress in amazon app
>wait for deliveryman since he is 9 houses away
>see him park in front of house
>see him pick up package
>he drops it
trying not to order from amazon wherever I can, but sometimes it's the only way to get anything.
heavy-duty shelf. that crisis box is just insane, the HCs in it are roughly TPB size so they are feeling so good in your hand while reading
What's in that big Crisis boxed set??
>Included in this incredible collection are: CRISIS ON MULTIPLE EARTHS VOL. 1 HC - Collects JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #21-22, 29-30, 37-38 and 46-47; CRISIS ON MULTIPLE EARTHS VOL. 2 HC - Collects JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #55-56, 64-65, 73-74 and 82-83; CRISIS ON MULTIPLE EARTHS VOL. 3 HC - Collects JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #91-92, 100-102, 107-108 and 113; CRISIS ON MULTIPLE EARTHS VOL. 4 HC - Collects JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #123-124, 135-137 and 147-148; CRISIS ON MULTIPLE EARTHS VOL. 5 HC - Collects JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #159-160, 171-172 and 183-185; CRISIS ON MULTIPLE EARTHS VOL. 6 HC - Collects JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #195-197, 207-209 and ALL-STAR SQUADRON #14-15; CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS HC - Collects CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #1-12; CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS: ALL-STAR SQUADRON HC - This new title collects ALL-STAR SQUADRON #50-60; CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS: GREEN LANTERN HC - This new title collects GREEN LANTERN #194-198, THE LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES #16 and 18 and THE OMEGA MEN #31 and 33; CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS: JUSTICE LEAGUE HC - This new title collects THE FURY OF FIRESTORM #41-42, DETECTIVE COMICS #558, WONDER WOMAN #327-329 and THE NEW TEEN TITANS #13-14; CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS: LEGENDS HC - This new title collects THE LOSERS SPECIAL #1, SWAMP THING #44 and 46, LEGENDS OF THE DC UNIVERSE: CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #1, BLUE DEVIL #17-18 and AMETHYST #13
looks fantastic
I've been tapping into post crisis DC, I might have to get one of these...
if you are euro, then this one is probably the cheapest:

I still haven't found the button to change to their english site though
great stuff. How is John's Power Girl?
It's very good, setting up the Palmiotti/Conner comedic stuff.
What do you call those little display things you have the Frazetta and Nick Fury books in? They look perfect for some of the larger books I want to flip through daily, would they hold an Artist Edition?
They're just super-cheap book stands, you should find them inwriting accessories shops or however you call them for throwaway prices
Since the thread is somewhat deviating off course, here's some of my most recent finds from a comic market. Ticked a load of things off my huntlist;
1/3
Good to know, guess I never clocked them before I guess. Appreciated!

Only found half of Plastic Forks, but for a pound a piece I'm happy. St. George I've always wanted to read for the early origins of Terror

I need to check out those Zaffino Punishers
Enchanter looks very nice, do you know if it has been collected anywhere?
doesn't look like it
Nope, like I said only 3 out of the advertised 8 issues were ever even made

Am I doing it right?
>2-rowing regular books
get a new shelf, don't be poor
Not that anon but I have some of my books in up to three rows because there's literally no space for new shelves. Part of why I never bother taking pictures of them since you'd only see a fraction of what I have.
I'd have to buy a new house to properly display everything, and that's just not sensible.
Just underpad the back rows with something so thry'll be elevated. Looks great, like in
>Just underpad the back rows with something so thry'll be elevated
Don't suppose there's an idiot proof guide/tutorial on how to make one of these type of things to elevate the back row?
Look up "monitor riser" on amazon, take your shelves' measurement and buy one that fits.
>3 massive 6 shelf hardwood books cases
>all double stacked
>with books piled on top as well
I'm literally out of space to book bookcases. The problem is some of us have too much money to spend on books.
Oh, we can post normal book shelves? Not just comics?
This is the comic book board. Take that shit to Cinemaphile, they have shelf threads there too.
I might post my vidya and cooking shelf and you can do nothing about it.
You make me sick
>cooking shelf
Please do, cooking is my second passion
There's a mega floating around on Cinemaphile with a metric frickton of cook books. Some of them are even Cinemaphile relevant.
You need a more efficient shelving unit than this thing. This honestly makes me feel uncomfortable to see all this stark and wasted space.
After reading Alan Moore's Providence, all the Gou Tanabe Lovecraft adaptations and all the Hellboy/BPRD comics I find myself in desperate need of more Lovecraft stuff.
Any ideas?
Haunt of Horror: Lovecraft by Richard Corben: https://comicvine.gamespot.com/haunt-of-horror-lovecraft/4050-22464/
A Study in Emerald: https://www.amazon.com/Neil-Gaimans-Study-Emerald-Gaiman/dp/1506703933/
Skull Comics 4 & 5 are either Lovecraft adaptations or Lovecraft-inspired.
Rat God by Corben.
Breccia did some Lovecraft stories, but I don't think they're available in English yet.

I just preordered the reprint of the Miller Daredevil omni, but it feels incomplete without the companion. Do we know if the companion is also getting a reprint?
it's officially out of print but a lot of shops still have it. €85 at cheap-comics.com if you are euro, $59.99 at cheapgraphicnovels.com if you are american.
why is cheapgraphicnovels not listed any more?
Moving in over a month and need to get new shelving units, is Kallax the only decent long-term bookshelf for Ikea? Had that other one with the longer shelves but they always warp like a c**t with heavier books.
Also, I've usually always gone for the white ones but some of the black ones here look a bit classier. My studio is gonna have white walls, so do you guys think the black will look alright against them?
unless you want to go the custom route, kallax is your only option for those heavy books. everything else just warps and you have to replace 4/5yrs later
Would ideally love to get custom ones but it wouldn't be within the budget right now. But good to know, thanks!
which one is "that other one"?
I'd recommend BILLY since they are sturdy as frick and if you properly place your omnis and TPBs then FINNBY are pretty good as well. you really just have to see that you put your omnis on the fixed shelves of a FINNBY and not the movable ones or the pins that hold them will break. they are also deep and high enough to hold Absolutes
The Billy I had was not good. Definitely noticed a sag on some of the shelves. It was nice to have glass doors though. I wish the US would bring back glass doors for Kallax cubbies.
Check out the instructions you can probably skip the inner shelf steps.
if you guys really want doors you can diy them like this person did
https://www.reddit.com/r/vinyl/comments/da62g3/diy_glass_doors_for_kallax_coming_along_nicely/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
Recently read some sample pages about Sensitive Klegg and liked the character
hope you guys got that The Complete Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck for 90 bucks of amazon
sure did
good stuff
No.
I got The Norwegian Edition for 40 , and I wouldn't want it any other way.
there is another collection like that coming start of november
>90 bucks
I wish. It dropped to about $190 AUD a couple weeks ago but that's still too much considering I already own the entire Rosa library.
Currently in the process of repairing my bookcase, so no shelf. But here are the comics.
Here's my capeshit collection
1/4
2/4
>Ultimate Spider-Man 1-6, 12
why
And here's my shelf of powerful doodads
Because by the time I started collecting them, the hardcover collections were out of print and starting to go for $200 a pop, and my OCD tendencies won't let me get the paperbacks
Jesus, that pizza looks disgusting. Why would you display that?
> Pizza
I thought so too, but when I realized it was Dragon Balls, I laughed.
I know you're from /dbg/, you fricker. Leave me ALONE!!!
This shelf would be cringe were it not for the Jackie Chan Adventures talismans.
I've got two; the Jamie Hewlett artbook (the 1st print oversized edition), and the Dennis Hopper photographs collection - both of which are printed to the highest degree. There's a reason every rich wanker as a Taschen coffee table book in their house, because they exude quality. I highly rec the Jamie one though if you're into his art, very thorough and covers a lot of his career
have you considered flipping them and getting the USM omnibus that came out earlier this year? I believe it's still in print and fairly cheap still.
4/4
Cute Raven statue. I'm more of a Mezco man, but I'm tempted to get a couple statues for characters that won't get a proper one:12.
same after last thread posted some statues iv been looking into them and man are they tempting.
Has anyone bought artbooks from Taschen or Caurette? I was thinking of getting a nice artbook as a reward for myself before my next big haul (Question Omni + incal + some other euro stuff and manga). How is their binding/quality, and what particular artbooks would you recommend from either one? My tastes are pretty open, as I am a bit of a drawgay myself and like to use these as inspiration.
my brother has the Star Wars Archive book by Taschen and he is very happy with it ("Last Star Wars product I will ever buy").
Caurette seems to be a French publisher, I have no experience with that.
>cover is actually printed instead of just lazy cardboard
>less than 1000 pages, but uses decent matte paper that looks nice, so it's not woefully thick
>nicely designed package all around with good looking starting and ending matter
>collects previously uncollected material
>ACTUALLY RELEASED
I only compared a few pages, but the new restoration might be better than old trades, too. They're pretty colorful, though, and I don't have the original issues to compare to, so I'm sure that's a hot topic for debate, but I'm very happy at a glance.
Questionbros... did we just fricking win?
I was seriously impressed with how good the production of the book was.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, there's a warning at the beginning of the book about language and subject matter, so I assume the actual content is unedited. I can't confirm, but that warning has me hopeful. I'm ecstatic.
Open it up and take a picture. I need to see if they censored it or not.
What issue and page?
Those panels are on page 426. They don't edit Black person out as seen in the above image.
Cool, thanks.
I’m reading it right now. It’s a quality product.
They didn’t send you a dog?
Disgusting racism.
wonderful racism
Mediocre racism
Can you repeat the question?
this makes it through but new mutants doesnt?
Colors look pretty 1:1 with the originals, but would still appreciate a comparison shot if anyone has some.
Shame The Question's art is so middle of the road. I feel like Cowan's art is often lacking in specifity and nuance to carry the severity and grandiosity of the book's themes a lot of the time.
Cowan's art sucks and sort of breaks The Question for me. I couldn't finish it.
It’s been a while since I’ve read it, but I’m surprised to see people this sour on the art. I actually like it.
I am too! I feel like Cowan's art really compliments the story and fits the O'Neil's writing perfectly.
I'm surprised people love it.
Maybe the inker is to blame, but his art looks wonky, and not in the charming way.
O'Neil went from Neal Adams to this.
So you're saying O'Neil's writing is shoddy and amateurish?
it's a common complaint about O'Neill's Question.
Cop or not?
Most recent purchases.
Star Fruit Books just announced they've saved Hino's Panorama of Hell from decades-long OOP limbo, absolutely based
Don't think I've ever even heard of these guys before. Are they new?
Huh. Neat. Thanks for the heads up.
Looks like I have another publisher to keep an eye on.
Skimming their website it looks like they specialize in bringing over '80s and '90s horror manga. Sounds based to me, guess they saw how well that Viz were doing off those Junji Ito localizations and wanted a piece of the action.
Sweet. I wasn't a huge fan of the SFX in Town of Pigs though.

How big is the Question Omni?
Thinking of getting it next week when Berserk 11 drops.
That's a big question
952 pages, about 2.2" wide. Here's a photo in its natural habitat.
Oh hell yes, just a little too thick to be perfect like the BatMorrison omnis, but damn close!
If they still have any next week I can finally see what the fuss is about.

a lot of great shit.
Punisher Soviet is fantastic. I cant wait for the next Ennis Punisher mini
/tqog/ - The Question Omnibus General
Hopefully you can read this. It’s a bit fuzzy but legible on my phone.
i'll vouch for Books of Magic
The manga Black Clover is a pretty big rip-off of Harry Potter, to it's detriment in a lot of ways and led to the anime version having to rewrite the main arc to make it more unique and less of a rip-off, which ironically helped save the anime.
i really miss these threads. Good deal OP
Kinda random, but why the frick is Zatanna by Paul Dini is fricking expensive. It only came out in 2017.
2017 is an eternity in comics printing
At this point I can't even tell if the Question omni is actually good or if it's just a meme. Is it genuinely worth reading?
What's this?
Absolute Autism
i must scream but i dont have a mouth
I refuse to believe this is real, even DC doesnt have the audacity to do this.
They’re just trolling
Why volume 22? What did it do deserve that fate?
I honestly don't know. They must have let the intern do it.
None of them are reprints either, all first runs.
What comics do you guys think had the best endings/were the most complete story wise? I'm looking for some comics to fill the void I've experienced in storytelling. Preferably non capeshit, but I'm good with capeshit adjacent stuff like Hitman.
Y the last man has a solid ending.
Animal man is cape but a different take and the ending is interesting but nice.
Surpassingly I liked walking dead’s ending.
>ask for the best ending
>but don't give the best ending in this genre
But my two favorite endings are from capeshit, Ostrander's Spectre and Robinson's Starman.
Miracleman
Preacher
Sandman
Starman (definitely more superhero then hitman)
Supreme and Starlight: The Return of Duke McQueen
Got murder falcon signed by Johnson and he drew this in it as well
wow color me impressed great get anon
sixth gun fun western series with a wholesome ending
felling smug that all mines are uniform but still thats DC for you
>$190 AUD
is that a lot of Dollarydoos i can never remeber if Dollarydoo are more or less than USD?
>is that a lot of Dollarydoos
According to google it's about $130 freedom dollars
sick bro
So since the LOAC/IDW lost the Disney license it looks like Fantagraphics are reprinting a volume of their Disney Silly Symphonies series. At this stage it says it's a stand alone but hopefully they'll do the rest in future and maybe the Donald weekly/sunday strips as well. The LOAC volumes are starting to get pretty pricey now so good to pick up if you need it.
>LOAC
I didn't even know that this publisher existed
They're a branch of IDW specifically dealing with classic strip comics. Here's the original LoAC version and the new Fanta one.
oh all right, I didn't know that
New books

Sorry bout the mess for the shelf but sometimes you gotta make do when your room of books is pretty cramped.
Books behind Spirit Circle and Aria are Ran and the Grey World, Girls Last Tour, Voynich Hotel.
Books Behind Flowers of Evil are the NGE manga adaption, Uzamaki and Ping Pong
Books behind DBZ and Blue Giant are full Vagabond Set.
Down the bottom right is Death Note, CSM and Fire Punch.
It’s wild that the ps5 is still hard to find also great collection those berserk omnis look great together
Is dorohedoro any good? I saw the design for Noi and she fulfilled my muscle girl fetish.
It's a strange and whimsical series. Very difficult to categorize.
I didn't think so.
I have to read Spirit Circle one of these days also I didn't even know that Dowman's manga are published/
Give it to me straight, doc. Is JMS Spider-Man any good?
Nope
Well that's some money saved!
It takes far greater effort to read a significant chunk of any given material than it does to ask another person how they feel about it.
It doesn't recover after the prison arc either. It drops in quality in that arc(which drags on forever) and never recovers. Ending might be good though but that whole stretch from the prison arc to the last few chapters are not very good.
>Why don't any of you people just try this stuff online and see if you like it first?
There's nothing wrong with people talking about things, anon. Take a breath.
There is something very wrong with people talking about things they have not read/watched.
Asking for someone opinion on a piece you haven't read is just fine.
No! You haven't read it, so by what authority do you make any statements about it? It's stupid and dangerous.
Not particularly. Are you interested in spoilers? Because you can never discuss said thing with that person on equal footing. And a simple "is it good or bad?" doesn't tell you much because the person you're asking's taste might not be compatible with yours.
I'll be okay thanks for looking out for me, though.
Such sass.
Sure, but I don't know why you'd trust somebody like this:
I'd put more stock into what's on a person's shelf than just getting some random anon's opinion. They might be a negative Nancy.
one day I'll update my pics
Don Rosa is the best Donald Duck artist. His style had a grit to it that wasn't present in other Duck comics.
I vastly prefer Barks.
Based
Also based
Speaking of which- I have the Don Rosa Library Collection volumes 4 and 5, because those contain the bulk of Life & Times, and that didn't seem to be getting a reprint when I bought them.
How fricked am I if I want to fill out the collection?
Even he would tell you Barks is better.
he is a huuuuuuge Barks fanboy though and Barks is literally the reason why he started drawing so his opinion is kinda biased.
Yeah, which just makes Barks opinion of Rosa's work even sadder.
Rise
The latter half of these threads always devolves into bizarre opinions and borderline rulegayging. What is wrong with you guys?
your in a comic book board in a shelf thread the amount of mental illness and man children on here is staggering. im surprise we can even stay on topic for more than 6 posts
I don't understand how anyone one any sort of board dedicated to media can come to this
guy's conclusion. What does he think reviews are? He also somehow changed the argument from asking people what they thought of a book they read, to the person who hasn't read it discussing their opinion of the book.
Just weird stuff.
>anyone one any sort of board dedicated to media can come to this
guy's conclusion
mental illness and man children
>He also somehow changed the argument from asking people what they thought of a book they read, to the person who hasn't read it discussing
moron, maybe you wanna scroll up
Both of the first guys have clearly never read the stuff they are asking about and the third guy just tells them to try them out for themselves instead.
morons like you have ruined online discussion because you act like moronic white knights that never have anything to say.
I'm a huge homosexual for it. Please rape my face, honestly.
>They're asking for the opinion of someone who has read it, they're not providing their own.
Holy fricking shit you fricking moron
>And a simple "is it good or bad?" doesn't tell you much because the person you're asking's taste might not be compatible with yours.
Stop being fricking moronic brainless worthless trash. I'm so sick of moronic "discussion" like
>is this good
>yes
Frick off with this reddit shit, just read it yourself and make up your own mind. You're one step away from being a living meme ("I just marathoned this, what did I think of it?")
I addressed all of the seething garbage you brought up.
>You can then argue someone should just go read reviews, but an interactive scenario in a small community like this can be much more fruitful because you can ask follow up questions. Does that sound like an unreasonable amount of work for the guy answering? Then he doesn't have to respond.
Binary answers are, in fact, gay. I in no way advocated for them.
Oh, and
>People come here to discuss the things they've read with other people that have read that same thing
>Why are you so allergic to serious discussion? Why do you like these puerile interactions so much?
I'm not trying to bully people out of those interactions. What the frick are you talking about? This isn't a zero-sum situation. It's not either/or. Both have their place here. Unless you're you, of course, and your jannyhat is on too tight.
>Exactly, if you're the type of moron that prefers experiencing entertainment through second hand opinions
Reviews are not an avenue of experiencing media. It's not their intent. I've never even seen someone imply that before you. This is why I started this shitshow of a reply chain with calling your behavior bizarre.
>I'm not trying to bully people out of those interactions
Well I am, redditor. Because they're worthless.
I wish you'd take your worthless homosexual life. This exchange was a lot better than people actually talking about books, but you didn't seem to have any desire to police it. Maybe next time they'll accept your janny application.
I'll be sure to continue having enjoyable interactions with people here, and they'll be even sweeter now knowing you're seething as I tell curious posters why I like a book when they ask.
>I wish you'd take your worthless homosexual life
Same to you, npc.
>because you can ask follow up questions
>about something you haven't read
Nah, bro. I don't mind asking someone's opinion of something on their shelf if you like a lot of stuff on their shelf but you have to be careful how to ask so you don't get the dry it's good answer, I guess this might be what you mean by follow up questions but you should just ask from the start what are the main themes, is it serious or rather quippy and what do you think of it in comparison to [insert something else] but that's kind of the issue, some people on Cinemaphile really loathe giving a small little spoiler free review about the themes and ideas in a comic and you kinda have to pull the answers out like you're pulling teeth, and then there are the fanboys that will try to sell you on something as if they're getting a profit from every sale.
you can ask follow up questions
something you haven't read
>I guess this might be what you mean by follow up questions
People stop posting shelves/hauls and then the trolls come in.
Comment on my shelves, you fricks!
Because people keep responding to obvious trolls
any comics?
/shelf/ is a disaster.
I'll help.
Here's some of my new stuff. I hunted down a full set of Ostrander Spectre floppies for pennies and i'm so happy since we'll never get a new collection until John dies.
Shelf 1
Shelf 2
at least it's turned into the readable direction
God I envy you for that Batman & Robin omni.
It's the only one I'm missing for all of Tomasi and Gleason's books.
It's getting a reprint in January.
Wicked, I can be patient.
It'll give me time to make room and track down Son of Batman or whatever the mini where Goliath appeared was called.
I don't know how readily available it is, I bought mine in a store in the middle of nowhere for 15$
I have never seen pope at a con, though I would love to get stuff signed by him. What are some of the other people that you want to meet
artwise it's absolutely amazing, storywise it's definitely above average
>Bacchus
Nice.
It's so good, the Eyeball kid stories are great because they're so over the top. But Bacchus's are just, so comfy
Paul Pope, Morrison Bats, Bachus, Question, Enigma, Criminal, Lapham. Good shit bro. Silverfish is underrated
Thanks anon, I remembered some anon a while back saying it wasn't good and i can't understand for the life of me why he'd think that. It's a solid crime story
Someone in the last thread wanted to see a sketch Jeff Smith drew in my complete Bone book but the thread died bef I got a chance
Love it
Reminds me that I need to get the rest of It Hurts.

Satania is excellent
Is the summit of gods good?
Not that anon but yes. Very much so.
Ok, thanks.
Mountain fricking shits think they can't be climbed but they're wrong
I've only read the first one but I've enjoyed it so far. It was a blind buy from the gekiga section at my book store
Riveting.
What else would you wish for?
Even the French movie adaptation is amazing.
frick is wrong with you
The Legend of Luther Arkwright is out in the UK.
Twats.
>finally bought planet hulk omnibus
>reprint announced
FRICK YOU
Nothing personel, kid
Did you pay much over the cover price?
The older printing will probably be better, honestly.
500 fricking yen
That's literally nothing
frick
I was pretty shocked myself. I decided to walk an hour in the rain just for exercise, ended up at a used book store, and just saw them on a shelf in the kids section. I looked around for the next few volumes, but couldn't find them anywhere.
I own maybe 90% of the series in floppies in America and had planned to bind them before moving, so I held off on reading them until I could complete the run. Just missing the first appearance of Courtney in Stars and Stripes or and the Hellboy/Batman/Starman issues, which are annoyingly pricey.
kek can you imagine telling men to have sex when it's women that are the ones that need to be convinced?
You are doomed.
Do you like Morrison?
Can you tell? They have been albatrosses that I've been meaning to get and one of the LCS had a 50 off sale for the 4th.
I had no idea Barefoot Gen was that long
>Morronson
Cringe
>Jim
Nice.
For anons that like artbooks: https://bleedingcool.com/comics/amanda-conners-hot-and-messy-artbook-comes-with-content-warnings/
Finally got superman exile omnibus, it's on sale on Amazon for 64 bucks.
how much did the Starmans run you?
>how much did the Starmans run you?
35 bucks a piece
Good job
broke down and ended up ordering two omnis with some govt rebate
>govt rebate
and what you talking about anon, is the gov finally shelf bros and subsides our addiction to books?
He's probably from like, Finland or something where they're absolutely swimming in oil and the government hands out free cash.
>Finland
ah that makes sense i always forget about those muslim countries with money.
Finnland isn't an oil money country though. you confuse that with Norway. also, America had a stimulus input as well, so did Germany
>America had a stimulus input as well
A fair while ago unless I missed something, or this guy has a special case like he's a farmer with a field setting fallow.
yeah i had to do a quick google search in case i had missed something. we only got 2 checks and that was like 2yrs ago. he might also be scamming his gov i know those countries give stipends to artist to create art but a good portion of them just blow it on drugs and other shit
https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/child-family-benefits/cai-payment.html
>$373 for an individual
that checks out thats about 2 omnis worth. wish biden had kept his fricking word and given me that other check he promised.
manitoba so a bit more, but I have the rest earmarked for the actual purpose of the payment
>manitoba
had to look up what that was but booo anon i would have blown it all on bullshit like comics or statues maybe crypto
>had to look up what that was
same, I thought it was some south-sea micronesia island
>but a good portion of them just blow it on drugs and other shit
To be fair, a lot of nice art is created on drugs, so some of them might factor that into the budget.

Bonus pic, this is what the
area looked like 30 days ago or so.
Very nice, sir. Cool seeing how the room's changed.
is that "Behold... Galactus" thing an actual book or a pic? if book then holy shit man
Basement Library Chads rise UP
They're great, but they're often small and always expensive. I'm surprised more of the people who buy Billy cases don't get the doors, though. If they made doors for Kallax shelves I'd get them.
One of these days I'll stop being a gay and build my library shelves with doors. One day...
Did you hear about the glue in those Godzilla books dissolving and ruining the discs?
iirc it was a thing where the pages would fall if you kept it stored upright. laying it down helps
What?
Are you fricking kidding me?
Does that have Forty Niners?
Yes.
Pretty sure it does.
Perfect.
We posting signed stuff now?
sick
i had them but i traded them in because i don't have room to put all the good things i've read. people would think i'm a hoarder
I've been trying to contact Spink & Thackray for like four weeks now and they seem to just be ignoring my emails. I'm not sure if I should try Houchen instead, it's going to be a lot more expensive and a bit more complicated, but I really want an experienced bindery to bind this collection.
What you getting bound?
Some (like 100 issues) LoSH stuff and maybe Orlando's Electric Warriors, if I'm having to send the entire thing halfway across the globe anyway.
What is Electric Warriors like? I got it for free years ago along with a lot of Alien Legion comics, and never got around to reading either of them.
Just open it up and take a look?
Fricking c**t.
Collection of 12,000 floppies is in America. I am not.
I like it. It's not the best book, but it's quick paced and has an interesting plot that could have resulted in some neat world-building. It definitely doesn't deserve to be DC's worst selling book of the last decade.
It's good 🙂
Thanks.
Please do, I've only ever seen the occasional custom binding shared here. Not sure what I'd get done first, but I'm leaning toward binding a complete collection of 'Ted McKeever at DC' that collects all of the various minis he did for them and Vertigo that have never been collected in trade;
>Enginehead (6 issues)
>Faith (5 issues)
>Industrial Gothic (5 issues)
>Junk Culture (2 issues)
>The Extremist (4 issues)
>LOTDK: Engines (2 issues)
So 24 issues total, which IIRC is around the max you'd wanna get bound in one volume
That sounds like a cool project! I have a couple of other ideas for binds as well, but those will only happen if I can find a good Euro bindery.
Picked up 4 volumes of the hardcover Walking Dead today for like 30 bucks. Starting to be really happy with the variety on my shelf
Got any hentai?
great question anon i second this
honestly yeah odd that DC is the one putting out better quality books now in days
>If they made doors for Kallax shelves I'd get them
they did they were a bit expensive but looked beautiful back in 2016ish i thought about getting them but backed out.
And a pic of my painting
looks nice bro
Thanks brother learning to air brush has been a lot of fun expensive but fun
I need to learn it someday. I have a Metal Gear Rex that desperately needs a coat of paint.
another sixth gun gunslinger bro!
I don't own any physical porn/hentai, although there are a few topless women in my normal comics here and there
Nobody here appreciate bookshelves with doors? Dusting must be a nightmare.
my problem with them is that bookshelves with doors cost as much as 4-5 omnis. when my wishlist is finally depleted I will probably upgrade to shelves with doors.
I'd fricking love this. With tinted windows and inbuilt down lights so the spines don't fade from being in direct sunlight. The problems are they don't make them big enough for all my books, they take up even more space than normal shelves and are a lot more expensive. But if I ever hit it big I'll be buying a bunch of them.
ooof you boys had a weird shelf going. hopefully you guys took advantage of the Amazon sale of Scrooge macduck i got 2 for 90 bucks each. i also got to show off my collection to 2 detectives which was fun/awkward. i also just finished coloring my 3d resin print stand
>i also got to show off my collection to 2 detectives which was fun/awkward.
explain
yeah i dont even know were to begin with this story but the TLDR of it is my gfs dad came to my house while i was out in Baltimore and then tried to sexually harassed/make a move on my neighbors kid. who i might add is 17 and he is late 50s. the cops came when i was back in town to get the CCTV footage of my home and talk to me about him and why she was at my house in the first place. its a giant mess all around
Lol what the frick
yeah its wild i threw him under the bus too, i gave the cops all the footage and didnt cover for him. what he told me was he was over at my house because he wanted to check it out to see if he liked it to rent it from me after i moved to my new place. keep in mind i didnt give him permission or offer to rent it to him and now im in a weird place with my trashy neighbor and gf about this whole thing. the cops were impressed
and ask for rec for there kid though that part was nice
the cops were impressed and ask for rec for there kid though that part was nice
Did you recommend "I roved out"?
What was an underage girl doing near your comics while you were gone?
long story short my neighbor is a single mom that really didnt take care of the kid or have internet. when she was 14 she would come around/jump the fence into my house and ask to use my Internet to do her homework.worst part of it was that the mom didnt even own the house she stole it from my neighbor after they got married she divorce him and took his house from him.
just bought this used for 10€ because one of the stories has art by Moebius, hopefully the jacket is still on, hard to tell from the seller.
I have a house renovation so i only show here my collection, Polish guy here
That's all, if you have question about some of this shit (if even, i have mainly popular things) I would gladly answer in this/next thread. I mainly buy stuff blindly
Is Last Order good?
No.
Hitman and Delicious in Dungeon are both very good.
What is Giant Days?
NTA
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_Days
well it has a 2 tome stuff-in-the-past-with-vampires arc and the last third of the book is just a long fighting tournament but overall I think it's good if you binge it.
Craptacular.
fellow Yuropoor here, how many comics get translated over in Poland (as a rough estimate or how much you've noticed)?
I actually expected more Indie stuff to get translated over there, but I guess I don't have a good overview of the overall translation market in the bigger Yuro countries.

oh sure, I do that here as well. DC and Marvel are gonna be significantly cheaper ordering online from them. Locally, the markup is YUGE in some cases and the rise of prices isn't helping. Mind you, I get a larger discount since I work at a bookstore, but still.
