>professional but capable of giving justifiably angry criticism >mom energy >isn't handed the world on a platter, is frequently shit on by the powers that be >doesn't act masculine, she juat needs to be tough to deal with overwhelming bullshit (aliens, androids, the company)
Ripley is objectively the most likable female protagonist. She's rightfully held up as a high standard.
>THE ultimate female lead
Because she wasn't the captain, just his second in command. She's not perfect, she wasn't le smarter and better than everyone else at everything. She's mature, intelligent, competent at her job. She's feminine and a mother. She acknowledges when she made a mistake or doesn't know and needs help. That's a pretty damn good female lead. Now you get a woman who doesn't need anyone else, kicks all their asses, then defeats the big enemy on her own while ranting that it's a misogynist.
>she wasn't le smarter
false
we've been over this
it's not a massive flaw in Aliens that Ripley is the smartest person in every room and has lines that should properly have been given to others, but it is a flaw
https://archive.4plebs.org/tv/thread/189085070/#q189091380
she is observant yes and that is because of her past experience and prolly overall qualities. she knows what she is dealing with an animal.
she suggests to put the sentry after then hicks follows it up by putting two more to the other doors.
Not a stretch but the cast was filled already so there needed to be some dialogue and focus on ripley so its not major and can be explained easily
It IS a stretch, plain and simple. The marines should have been much more familiar with the logistics of movement and even how to read fricking maps than Ripley.
In an alternate world where this was written to be more consistent, they would all have gotten maps prior to setting foot on the base. Ripley, being smart, motivated, and stuck in the command APC could easily have been studying them, while the marines could have been sent out without a chance to do so. There, now it makes sense that Ripley can orient herself instantly and know where shit is
fair.
On that point the marines did seemed quite incompetent they were scared and wanting to run away. it didnt feel right but i always thought of it as a bit intentional that in this world there is really no need for marines and all cuz futuristic and no war making marines dull which in the end when the commandar and the girl bomb themselves and other tries their hardest. the commandar literally looses it not knowing what to do when the alien attacks them. yes im also noticing how ripley notices that the place will explode (i guess she is a noticer).
so either my headcanon or that they wanted to include ripley more into the cast.
because she wasn't written with the intent of "we need a strong female protagonist", but rather "we need a protagonist", and then sigourney was cast later. the script was written completely genderless. any of the characters in the movie could easily have been replaced by the opposite sex and it would be entirely unnoticable. none of the characters in the movie experience anything unique to men or women.
James Cameron is simply so much better at the creative process than any childless moronic feminist millennial. The only reason to even ask this question is you're just mad Shaquandeesha the queen or Latinx feminizai star trek character isn't the gold standard instead.
She is the ultimate female lead her look for 6 out of 10 so she's just a regular woman but her attitude is that she can take charge when she needs to without being overly dominant without being a man every decision she made in alien one and two was perfect and there was no girl power involved
Because Aliens never made her an unrealistic badass femboss. She was aware that she was totally untrained and not on par with the soldiers. She acted scared, was humble, and only made use of skills that her character was supposed to have: engineer knowledge of ducts n shit + how to operate the mech suit from her months working that shit job. She never pushes the soldiers around or has a BOSS moment, she is part of the team while Hicks remain in charge albeit aware that he needs Ripley's help.
She never throws her weight around and is shown to not be a great warrior when Hicks is showing her how to use a gun for the first time.
Ripley succeeds because of bravery, not because she's a badass. She is a great feminine action hero because she isn't a man or masculine. Her motivations are that of a mother: she has knowingly lost her daughter due to being trapped in time and her daughter had grown old and passed away while she was asleep. She is carrying the pain of never getting back to her daughter when she meets and adopts a surrogate: Newt. Newt is her motivation to be brave and walk into hell when she enters the nest to save her.
Ripley then kills all of the Queen's babies when the Queen threatens her and Newt. Queen gives chase and tries to kill Ripley's "baby". They then throw down in a desperate battle where Ripley is just using what she knows - the mech suit.
Aliens is an action movie about motherhood but doesn't get all gay about it and doesn't try to turn the female lead into a man.
That's why it's so good and why people should learn from it how to write good female action leads.
she represents the motherly ideal of the preservation of life and resilience towards aggression and the violation of life
that's why she's the best female lead in an action movie
Because people who complain about female leads don't watch anything but action or sci-fi slop. Usually nothing older than 1980s movies and obviously nothing non-American.
Yeah the Ripley/Sarah Connor meme needs to die. There are so many other good strong female protags you could name, some of them are really obvious and well known too like picrel.
>Cute >Has sense of humor when space Marines troll her >Sexy >Mommy to alien and refuge girl but doesn't lean too much into mommy Dom >Cool curly hair but is also white
I wish so much I could have a Ellen Ripley gf
She cute.
Female lead mostly suck ass
Especially when she's barely in the movie compared to Murray, Ramis and Akroyd
Is that Tracy Beaker
Name a more iconic female Sci-fi character
Princess Leia
>Why yes, I do have a pretty substantial Funko Pop collection
princess leia is not cooler than ripley, but she is more iconic
yes
Sarah Connor
Avatar blue alien lady
Rey Palpatine
Leeloo or whatever
she was fat
what about Maetel
someone has to rescue this character but not to be cobra's sidekick
Samus Aran
Gally
>professional but capable of giving justifiably angry criticism

she was third in command. kane was second.

Lambert was such a histrionic pussy that she could only be cast as a woman, gay, or troon.
baby duck
sarah connor easily
James Cameron is simply so much better at the creative process than any childless moronic feminist millennial. The only reason to even ask this question is you're just mad Shaquandeesha the queen or Latinx feminizai star trek character isn't the gold standard instead.
Because we've had many many insufferable women led films.
She is the ultimate female lead her look for 6 out of 10 so she's just a regular woman but her attitude is that she can take charge when she needs to without being overly dominant without being a man every decision she made in alien one and two was perfect and there was no girl power involved

I hate the term but it's secondary homosexuals who care more about muh female lead than they do about Alien.
Yeah the Ripley/Sarah Connor meme needs to die. There are so many other good strong female protags you could name, some of them are really obvious and well known too like picrel.
Sarah Connor and Ripley are awesome though. Why not celebrate them? Same with Leah

She's the GOAT
It's a low bar.
