She's bi, but you'll never see the show explore that because of show killing writing that just needs that grand gesture to rope in all the basic b***hes that are blind to everything but romance subplots to help it end on a positive note.

You're just mad Luz is a genuinely nice and likable character and you can't harp on her for any petty reason because the writing never gives you any excuse for it. She struggled with plenty of things, most obviously with her guilt for letting Belos exist.

Basically, this character faces no real obstacles or challenges that can't be overcome without at worst a small inconvenience, while still having all these other things on a silver platter without really earning them.

Within months she's already a better magician than Belos was able to become over several years. Why? Who cares, Lumity.

You guys sound like you want your female protagonist to be a b***hy moody c**t with all sorts of unresolved issues. In that case, go the frick outside and interact with real-life women, they got that in spades for you.
I'm just happy to see a female protagonist who is genuinely righteous, understanding, and level-headed, and unironically makes a good role model for kids. What's wrong with that? It's not like she can effortlessly overcome any obstacle, she still struggles the way a Saturday morning cartoon protagonist would struggle on her adventures. But I love to see that kind of person win because they deserve all the love and success they can get.

What is it abo Luz that makes her unlikable? I don’t mean in the sense of actively disliking or hating her, but there just being this massive void of apathy and indifference to her. Story wise there are narrative hooks for her, but I can’t seem to engage emotionally with Luz or care for her at all

      Anonymous

Personally I don't think she's totally unlikable - at first she has a pretty endearing attitude and personality, but she quickly becomes a Lisa Simpson-tier goody two shoes who always has to be in the right even when she's wrong because somehow learning from her mistakes only makes her more awesome and correct.

It's annoyingly self indulgent and doesn't really make the character feel like she grows or develops or improves, yeah she suffers a bit towards the end but even that is quickly trivialized because lmao plot armor.
Even the fact she can't use glyphs anymore at the end is quickly brushed over with a happy celebration scene, because they ran out of ink. Either way it still cheapened her arc.

The reason why is because the Titan favors her. If I had to guess, the Titan gave Belos subtle hints early on, like he does for Luz, but after realizing the monster he his, he stops helping him and obscures the light glyph from him. Also, I’m pretty sure Luz learned about combining glyphs from Lilith so she didn’t even learn how to do that herself like Belos did, even if it took him longer to discover.

Luz wasn’t some sort of chosen one, she was just unconditionally nice to and protective of his son, so the Titan was willing to give her access to his power.

Titan is hinted at "trying to hide" the glyphs from him. Plus Belos actively hates witches and magic so he doesn't approach things the same way Luz does at all.

          >Within months she's already a better magician than Belos was able to become over several years.
Except Belos basically bodies her in every single fight. The only times she actually gets a hit on him is through pure trickery and playing on his ego. Even then they do nothing in the grand scheme of things as he still wins (portal acquired and Draining spell activated).

Also because Belos is a spiteful narcissistic who viewed magic as a hateful tool whose only use was for its own destruction. He willingly stayed ignorant of other beliefs. Luz actually tried to understand and connect with the lands. Him saying the Titan didn't want him to find them is cope for why Luz got to combos faster.

Luz is hilarious. It’s exceedingly obvious no one in the writer’s room has any idea what her personality is supposed to be. I remember I would check interviews on Luz’s character or her wiki pages and laugh at how they all contradicted each other. The reason why Luz sucks is that the Luz in the heads of Dana and the fandom straight up does not exist. She’s meant to wackier, quirkier, and more eccentric then she actually is, but the truth is Luz is actually an extremely serious character whose temperament and personality is more similar to her mom’s then anyone else. Which is why Dana artificially trying to put weird stuff like the stupidest snake prank backstory or her being LE UNCONVENTIONAL doesn’t work because she is easily the most straight man character of the entire cast
