I never liked how her character was so bold. Made her feel like an Earth or Fire avatar that just happened to have been born into a Water Tribe person's body.

There's lore explanation to this, the Avatar's identity was historically revealed to them when they turned 16. So they had plenty of exposure to their birth element before they even tried others.

Honestly the bigger issues with Korra lie in the attempts to raise stakes and to make Korra seem better than the Avatars that came before her. There was no reason to explain where the Avatar State came from, the assumption that it was simply akin to buddhist reincarnation was fine but because we needed to open the mystery box because the sequel needs to be BIGGER we ended up with the carpet conflict which of course then led to the fight that essentially destroyed the souls of every avatar before Korra, Aang included.
They needed an excuse to make a fricking Dark Avatar and people will try to argue the only reason people ever claim to hate the show is because either they hate the gays or they hate having a female protagonist
