we're never going to get anything like this ever again. The Return and BR2047 were revivalist masterpieces arguably superior to the original. supposedly prestige media from the past decade is such overwrought trash that no one would care if any of it came back and tried to do something new
It was originally shot as a feature-length pilot for a TV show for ABC. When it got rejected, Lynch recut it as a feature film and did reshoots to add in the lesbian scenes.
I didn't know about Twin Peaks until I saw a teaser for S3 that same year. I bought the gold edition of the series and criterion of Fire Walk With Me and S3 when it was released and I watched them all in chronological order in September followed by playing the first four Silent Hill games for the first time in October. What a ride.
The Return is almost better the second time, since it's easier to enjoy Dougie kino without the nagging anxiety of not knowing when Cooper is coming back
Cursed kino >In January and February 2017, respectively, cast members Miguel Ferrer and Warren Frost died, but both appear in the new season. This was Ferrer's last live action television role before his death.[54][55] Harry Dean Stanton, who reprised his role as Carl Rodd, died in September 2017, less than two weeks after the last episode of the season aired.[56] >David Bowie was asked to make a cameo appearance as FBI Agent Phillip Jeffries, his character from Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me.[52] As Bowie's health was declining, his lawyer told Lynch that he was unavailable. Before his death in January 2016, Bowie gave the production permission to reuse old footage featuring him, but he was unhappy with the accent he had used in the film, and requested that he be dubbed over by an authentic Louisiana actor, leading to the casting of Nathan Frizzell as Jeffries's voice.[53] >On September 28, 2015, Catherine E. Coulson, who reprised her role of the Log Lady in the new season,[43] died of cancer.[44] She filmed her final scene four days before her death.[4][45]
The biggest compliment I can give to Twin Peaks season 3 isn't just that it was amazing to watch and something truly original and unpredictable in an age where television/movies had gotten extremely predictable. But it's that 7 years later, season 3 of twin peaks feels like a valid, meaningful and worthwhile extension of Twin Peaks.
No part of me thinks of season 3 as "the revival one", it legitimately feels like something that has become part of what Twin Peaks is, it is iconic in its own way, it stands on its own the same way any other season of a television does, but still feels like a meaningful part of the core, not something you can separate from the rest, or would want to separate from the rest. I can't think of a single revival of any show ever where the new start doesn't feel like a shitty meaningless exercise in just regurgitating what has already been done but worse in every way.
That's what makes it special. When I think of Twin Peaks now, I just intrinsically include season 3 in that, it's not Twin Peaks the original show AND season 3 of Twin Peaks, it's the whole.
Nothing is better, not even the original series
My local theater did a David Lynch film festival a few ago and they played this episode on the big screen, shit was absolutely kino.
fr no cap?
Watching this weekly was a highlight.
Yeah I miss the weekly threads with Cinemaphile, seeing all of it unfold live was such a trip especially the last few episodes.
Wish I'd have been there
/tpg/ is going on my tombstone
Has anyone got the "typical /tpg/ thread" picture?

Hahaha no
the ultimate pleb filter.
If by kino you mean in the "Its actually shit but I will act like its good, as a joke" kino then yes, its very kino.
What is kino to you? Out of curiosity
Oh look, it's the "I don't get it so I'll just say everyone who likes Lynch is just pretending" poster. Right on time.
I watched mullholand drive yesterday and it felt like a twin peaks episode
Wasn't it originally supposed to be about Audrey or is that just some shit morons made up?

The greatest work of art in the medium of TV this century thus far. I don't know what could beat it.
anybody know what lynch is up to these days? haven't heard anything since he quit doing the weather report
Something under the working title Wisteria for netflix, people think it's gonna be s4 but who the frick actually knows
>Something under the working title Wisteria for netflix
That ship has sailed
O rly?
Television peaked with The Return.
GOATed. The threads were the stuff of legend.
Imagine how it felt like watching this back in 2017 with the pent-up hype and all the dumb speculation and memes.
What a magical summer that was.
It was a truly unique experience. My only regret is seeing leaked photos of the final scene and having it stuck in the back of my mind the whole time.
I don't need to imagine, it was fricking amazing. Then it was just as amazing on the rewatch. There's always more to unpack with it.

Television peaked in 2017, between True Detective, The Return and Too Old To Die Young.
It's never going to be this good ever again, not in my lifetime.
The thread seems different, and some replies are missing.
CHERISH THE CABIN
I've only watched it once. A part of me is apprehensive to watch it again because I worry it won't hold up.
It's the only show I've watched where it felt like it was made to be rewatched. Try it.
I will watch it all again soon. Well, maybe not most of S2.
The Return is almost better the second time, since it's easier to enjoy Dougie kino without the nagging anxiety of not knowing when Cooper is coming back
I’ve rewatched it twice. I love it.
I liked it better with each rewatch
It was the best
Jade give two rides
Watching this felt like what watching TV used to be.
What's the last show you enjoyed at least nearly as much, bros? For me it's Riget Exodus
Didn't like it as much, but the only shows that have come close are John Adams, The Shield, and The Sopranos.
Riget is a gem
>Dougie arc begins
”wtf is this shit?”
>Dougie arc ends
”HELLLLOOO-OOO!”
Cursed kino

It really was For the Last Time.
wonder how vedder poster is doing these days
