    Yeah, read the comic too.

it's fine. i enjoyed it. i read the comic first, which is better. alan moore hates the movie, but he also hates all film adaptations of his comics. although in the case of league of extraordinary gentlemen and v for vendetta, he has a clear reason to. i've read the comic a few times, and i think the major difference is an event that plays out toward the end. the event itself is the same and has the same consequences, but the way it happens is different. alan moore hated it. personally, i don't think it's a big deal.

so, yeah, watch the movie, but i also recommend the comic.

      Alan Moore is a b***h.

moore is a grouchypants dildo and if it was up to him nobody would make any movies at all

Watchmen fails to be good. I think the casting was bad. Rorshach was legendary tier, Captain Planet and Max Headroom are pretty good and then everyone else in the movie fricks it up somehow. Silk Specter and Owl Batman were flatlines. The guy playing Ozymandias is fricking terrible he can't talk straight or project any characteristics.
Also it had tone problems like if we're going for dark gritty noir then you can't play sappy pop songs every six minutes.

      >Love capeslop but never seen Watchmen (2009)

Watchmen isn't a "cape" movie. It's not a superhero movie, it's a noir-ish crime drama that happens to be about people who happen to be costumed heroes (though only one of them is "super").

I've heard fringe arguments that the comic ending is better, I don't really think it is. But outside of that, I think this movie and 300 are an example of Zack Snyder's autistic slavish devotion to perfectly recreating comic book pages as his film structure work in the most ideal way. Yes, his "original" films are a little wonky, but this is an instance where he does exactly what he needed to do which is put what was on the comic pages, on film.

I think outside of maybe Silk Spectre which I guess is arguable(?), Watchmen is pretty perfectly cast and shot.

Wtf is the Ultimate Cut? I've seen the theatrical version and the director's cut.

They added a scene where Carla Gugino in old lady makeup sucks a giant blue dick

So there was a DVD extra that adapted the Black Freighter story, which was an in-universe comic book, into an animated short. I'm pretty sure the Ultimate Cut inserts parts of the animation into the movie itself the way the comic cut between the two. But it sounds like it'd be totally obnoxious to watch.

It’s literally one of the only good capeslops. This, Dark Knight and Raimi-Man. That’s it. Throw incredibles on there if you think that counts.

Nah I liked Hugh Jackman and Wolverine when that shit would play on FX when I was 13 but is le civil rights but with superpowers good as an adult? Haven’t seen it since then. Same with Hellboy. I remember loving it and watched it recently and it sucked.

The original Reeves Superman (just the 1st one) and the 90s Ninja Turtles are also good. Frick any Batman besides Nolan they’re all dogshit.

          That's what I meant by Donner's Superman.

This one is great as well, almost included it.

The Adam West Batman movie and show are great.

For me Batman is like Godzilla. It only works if it takes itself seriously. Once you have Batman running around being gay and Godzilla leaping around and doing kung fu with the kiddies you realize you’re just watching some homosexuals in animal costumes leap around.

Bad example I’m talking about other movies where Godzilla is throwing up peace signs and doing dances and talking with other monsters with subtitles. That MechaGodzilla movie you posted is pretty good and not really stupid.

Still kino. Godzilla was cooler when he fought like a dude and kicked ass with his bros.

I enjoyed that and also the new suitmation Godzilla vs Jet Jaguar short (called Operation Jet Jaguar). You can find it online but Toho took it off their Youtube channel after a week. It's part of a yearly anniversary they've been doing but I don't know why they take them down when they left the Megalon and the Gigan Rex animated shorts up.
There was also a suitmation Godzilla vs Hedorah short.

I saw the new Jet Jaguar one and that was fun. I didn't see the Hedorah one, so thanks for letting me know about that one.

The Hedorah one is cool even though it's shorter than the Jet Jaguar one
                >https://wikizilla.org/wiki/Godzilla_vs._Hedorah_(short_film)
I also forgot to mention there's also a suitmation Gigan short (not the animated Gigan Rex short), which is a bit longer and more comparable to the Jet Jaguar one
                >https://wikizilla.org/wiki/Fest_Godzilla_3:_Gigan_Attacks
Next one we're getting is seemingly Godzilla and Jet Jaguar vs King Ghidorah, judging by the ending of Operation Jet Jaguar.

For me it's the opposite. A rich guy running around dressed as a bat is not something I can take seriously.

                Anonymous

He’s barely dressed as a bat besides the pointy ears on the helmet (in Nolan). He literally uses the cape to glide and other than that he just has black-colored operator SWAT gear.

Watchmen is a great adaptation. I think the Director's cut is the best version of the Watchmen story, original comic included.

      ?si=AJzu-LSRGA4S-exF

The extended cut of the Wolverine is also great because it's mostly just a action film that happens to have people with powers. Don't bother with "Logan" as it's a terrible script.

batman shouldn't be taken TOO seriously. that's kind of the point of watchmen and probably killing joke as well.

the thing is, if you take batman too seriously you end up wrestling with some stuff that's hard to write without it being convoluted. i've watched a frickton of the DC animated movies, and he has this whole thing about not killing despite being perhaps the most well-armed man on the planet.

i think that's ok as a footnote, but making that, and his lack of superpowers, a frequent point that's brought up turns him into an angsty moron just tagging along. i think they're missing an opportunity to use batman as pretty much a background character that works as a trump card. but, there's this insistence on making him out to be a superhero, and not a detective.
