I'm just a Teen Titans fan that loves Robin with Starfire. My personal perspective is that it's better for Nightwing to be with someone outside of the Batfamily and within the Titans circle, rather than within the Batfamily where it's only reinforced that they're all in Bruce's shadow.

Dick has done Kory so dirty that any attempt to pair them up now would feel forced.

        Anonymous

Bro Dick/Kory hasn't been relevant in the comics in 30 years, let it go. It's like people pairing Peter/Gwen because of the adaptations. It's time has passed. Better off as an early love interest that just didn't work out.

          Anonymous

Dick and Babs weren't relevant for 15 years and, unlike him and Kori, DC didn't fill their post-break up history with repeatedly having them start dating again and sleeping with each other.

They’ve been relevant for the last two years albeit under Tom Taylor.

Every relationship Dick and Babs were in post break up the other showed up in the other's book to be made aware of it and give their opinion on it. Starfire was irrelevant.

              Anonymous

Most of them don't. Babs doesn't actually have that many love interests either. DC silos Dick a fair bit, to the point where you can consider there to be a Titans Dick and a Gotham Dick who don't actually overlap all that much.

              >Which leads into another issue I have in that DC never actually dropped Dick and Kori.
Anon it’s dropped as of now. The only reason why it could happen again is because DC needs the money much like how they reunited the Titans. Again. Which is why Dick needs to stay the frick away from them. Literally the only reason why Dick is in such a shitty state as a character is because he languished with the Titans.
The Titans haven’t been cool in three decades and neither has Kory.

"As of now" being operative phrase. And the reason why Dick is languishing is because his solo has been consistently been discount Daredevil in diet coke Gotham and what few attempts to make anything other than that were either complete shit or thoroughly crushed by editorial.

                Anonymous

                >"As of now" being operative phrase
Shit that happens in team books will almost never matter to a character that has their own book. Dick could have a graphic 10 page frick session with Kory in a Titans book and it'd never be addressed in a major way for his own book. At this point characters like him only show up in team books to drive sales up.

      >follow up Nightwing writer breaks them up for her OC ship
      >15 years and several other Dick relationships later, some of whom were liked by readers, DC starts acting like they're eternally bound soulmates fated to be together
      >meanwhile DC has never stopped teasing Dick and Kori and has on several occasions put them back together
I'm not denying DickBabs has its fans or merits, but it ran its course by the mid-00s and there was never any great clamor to bring it back. The long-running insistence on establishing the relationship through retcon rather than building it on page leaves a lot of readers cold especially since there really isn't any room in Dick's character history for those flashbacks which only serves to make him look like a shitbag. And most of the current DickBabs fans seem like they never actually read their original stint as a couple and instead are pushing this fanon version built out of random panels and headcanon.

Dick has done Kory so dirty that any attempt to pair them up now would feel forced.

Given everything about Dick's personality, him settling down and not fricking it up at some point with anyone feels a bit forced.

Sure, but at least they can point to the cartoon as a coherent take on the relationship. Which leads into another issue I have in that DC never actually dropped Dick and Kori. They know that it has a fandom and they cater to it. At several points post-1993 Dick and Kori were functionally a couple again. Saying Dick and Kori don't count because of how long ago it happen is pretty pointless, because people born when Dick and Babs first hooked up have already graduated from high school.

I never understood this ship, they barely meet, barely talk and when they do it’s boring. Seeing a Selina and Bruce storyline is fun, bound to be romantic and heavy. They affect each other good or bad, most times in equal doses.

Meanwhile Dick and Babs barely even think about each other outside of work, have 0 chemistry and will not bring anything to the table even if they do get together. Plus how would it even work? There’s no way she’s moving to Bludhaven, so that means either they go long distance or Dick relocates to Gotham. Both sound awful.

I guess. It's stupid though. Nightwing doing all that spiel about "wanting to be his own man and doing his own thing" and then moving to Bludhaven is for all intents and purposes an equivalent of a teenager throwing a tantrum and deciding to move out from his dad's house, only to settle in the house next door.

I think it's a little ridiculous that there's a bunch of "Dick needs to be his own man" discourse when that doesn't occur for literally any other sidekick. Wally is his own man and he's literally under the same mantle as Barry.

                Anonymous

It's different because Wally got to be the man for like 20 years and actually grew as a character. Meanwhile Dick has been spinning his wheels over a longer timeframe, except when he became batman, and has barely grown at all. Hell in many ways he has regressed

To be fair though Wally is pretty much a unicorn as far as cape characters go that shouldn't really be compared to anybody

I prefer the scenerio where Robin leaves Gotham and moves to the complete other side of the country to become his own man far away from Batman's shadow, and becomes the leader of his own team where he's the main man everyone respects and gets with the alien princess that first met him without any pre-existing knowledge or awareness of Batman's existence. So when he becomes Nightwing, he is 100% entirely his own independent person from Batman.

If she's not with Dick, how is he going to cheat on her? And what are the options? Ted was destroyed by Johns. Jason? The character is shit. The ideal is for her to continue being cheated on by Dick and cheat on him with Dinah.

they could frick for 2 years straight and it still wouldn't change that they have the chemistry of moldy socks to go along with a relationship built entirely on retcons and one character, usually dick, being wildly out of character or incompetent

        >and one character, usually dick, being wildly out of character or incompetent
Is Taylor still doing the running gag of Dick getting knocked unconscious with a blow to the head?

        >they have the chemistry of moldy socks
I don't think I'd go that far... okay, maybe. At least Babs is showing some assertiveness and passion, but Dick has felt hesitant and uncertain, letting Babs take the lead in this relationship. Which, fine, some relationships are like that, but it makes for an uncompelling romance when he isn't reciprocating her passion.

The main character drama of Babs last run was her agonizing about dating someone when at any moment Dick could stop fricking other women and start wanting to frick her.

            That's pretty realistic honestly.
