Well I don't think this thread would fly on Cinemaphile so here we are. I'm pretty sure this isn't getting picked up for another season, which sucks because they're finally getting into the Bird/Magic rivalry the way they should have done from the start.
I don't even like watching actual sports that much but for some reason shows/movies about sports (Winning Time, Rocky movies) are apex kino. Also Winning Time isn't even about basketball itself that much; saying you need to like sports to like Winning Time is like saying you need to be into advertising to like Mad Men.
Yeah, for a show where Magic Johnson is the deuteragonist, they really gloss over the sports side of things. Half the episodes run time is devoted to Jerry West yelling about whatever pissed him off today.
>show about the best team in sports history
show about some american Black folk, at least it is about a sport, that the rest of the world also plays, so i guess it could be worse
3 episodes in and this show is pretty great tbqh. I think it even has Cinemaphile's kind of humor but I think the morons on here are too adhd to handle the hour-long episodes.
I’d honestly love to see how the 2016 warriors would fare in the 80s rule set. I don’t see the heavily physical style of the 80s being all that much of a hinderance, but who knows?
>from executive producers of succession
did this actually have any bearing on quality? i know they hand out exec producer credits for all sorts of reasons
I know no one cares about womens basketball, just saying UCONN Womens team first -record breaking- streak ended at 90 consecutive wins, then they surpassed themselves with 91 wins, then for a third time with 111 wins. Thats 292-3. The most moronic win ratio in sports history.
One thing I disliked was how they changed game outcomes to fit the “lol Westhead sucks” narrative. I haven’t noticed them doing it in the 2nd season, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see it happen again
It's a decent show but even now after watching the first ep of S2, I regularly forget it's airing. The problem is is that it's a solid 7.5/10 show. Nothing really remarkable.
>everyone's an butthole
Coop is the only guy I like.
The performances they're getting out of people like Solomon Hughes and Quincy Isaiah, who've done next to nothing before, are the most impressive part. It's also nice to see John C. Reilly stretching his dramatic chops again, instead of doing goofy comedy.
It’s cause it’s a sports show. People on this board don’t care about sports

Are we allowed to discuss it? I've seen 30 for 30 threads get deleted.
It's that weird limbo between tv and sports. Probably why it gets shit ratings too. I was shocked it got a second season.
This. I like the show, especially now that it's finally getting to Pat Riley, but people here don't care about sports at all.
Jason Segel is doing such a good job of playing a guy out of his depth who let fame go to his head. Extremely hateable
>show about the best team in sports history
This show is mostly about the lakers and not the Celtics
I watched the first season. I don't know if I want to watch more.
That ain't the yankees
>sports show
the people who like sports don't like fiction

You sound like a bullied theater kid.

oh look, its one of those guys in that overlap sliver who likes sports shows/movies more than sports.
hi outlier. how's it going?
No, I see where that guys coming from. I really love a good sports movie but I can’t be bothered to watch actual games or events most of the time.
Every time I watch one of the Rocky movies I tell myself I want to stream an actual boxing sometime, but then I never actually do.
Hockey movies > Hockey
Football > Football movies
Baseball movies >>>>> Baseball
Basketball = Basketball movies
Boxing movies >>>>>>>>>>>>> Boxing
MMA >>>>>> MMA movies
i fricking love those 30 for 30 sports documentaries but i cant be bothered to watch the actual sport from any of those docs

Is this how third worlders without any impact on the world talk? That's just sad.
It's a hagiography, and it's looking like Magic's diagnosis isn't coming until the third season so I just watch it in the background.
If it even gets a third season. It better. I need some early 90s kino
The theme song is honestly pretty great https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZ_gFyB6GnA

That's not the '96-'97 Chicago Bulls.
lol the durant warrior’s would annihilate the show time Lakers in a series
I’d honestly love to see how the 2016 warriors would fare in the 80s rule set. I don’t see the heavily physical style of the 80s being all that much of a hinderance, but who knows?
the should have called it showtime
like the showtime lakers
That was the original plan, but it’s airing on HBO and they didn’t want to advertise for the competition.
>from executive producers of succession

they pretended it was popular for so long it'd be weird to stop now.
iirc the real Lakers don't like their portrayal in the show
Jerry West in particular threatened legal action, and everyone, being the wormy little shits they are said “lol you got mad like on the show”

>show about Black folk
It’s a nice change in pace from all the shows about Black folk
It's a decent show but even now after watching the first ep of S2, I regularly forget it's airing. The problem is is that it's a solid 7.5/10 show. Nothing really remarkable.

I can’t imagine how weird the show would have been with Shannon or Ferrell as the lead. Rilley has that scumbag charm that just works.
They originally had Michael Shannon playing Jerry Buss, but he dropped out because he didn’t understand why his character was talking to the camera
