The wish worlds are created from the main universe, not the other way around.
We honestly don't really know how it works. They were vague with it on purpose and Prismo's indicated universes exist/are created outside of the scope of his wishes and not all his wishes require creating another reality.
All of reality could have been wiped out with the Lich's wish, then when Jake wished everything back to normal, the reality of that universe was reversed so that it never happened but so that the flow of time outside of the time of their reality stayed consistent (aka Jake can't make his wish if the Lich never made his) the Lich's wish was sanctioned off into a different reality created because of Jake's.
i saw an explanation in another thread that made sense. Jake's wish reverted finn & the lich's, but Prismo himself can't actually erase universes (which is why Scarab has to provide proof to their boss) so those universes were just brushed aside
Basically this. Its schrodengers cat when they're in the time cube. The cube is isolated from time and space. Litch made wish killed everything Jake made wish which undid Liches wish but to avoid a paradox the original dead version was now a branched timeline. Prismo basically killed everything with the wish made a copy of the file reverted the file back to its previous state making things as they were then sticking that what if copy somewhere in the universe chain to not make a paradox. Time room has alot of this kind of frickery like the two jakes and the finn sword. Prismo is basically just cosmic tech support hes always on a screen or having a remote everyone was fine the only time the lich almost really fricked shit was when he killed prismo but thats a whole other can of worms. Finns biggest mistake in the series was letting the liches hand fall into the multiverse
Not our lich. The timeline was retroactively changed by jake’s wish. Because of it, Reality become split at all points in time and space, and the successful lich’s reality is just a different timeline all together now.

Hes like a machine. He sees he kills with nothing to kill he shuts down. When time and space are removed he also shuts down like he did in the time room unless there's an outside influence. He is very robotic he works like a computer he only knows his directive and will not deviate.

He's not a machine. He didn't kill anyone in the time room because he GAVE UP.
He does have moments where he taunts, boasts, laughs, and gets irritated, but this is an entity of great knowledge. It's probably safe to say the more "humanized" aspects are there to also play mind games with people. He probably knows there are worlds beyond the one he currently inhabits but he doesn't really have the means to go there, so the only way that can happen is if some interlopers happen to intrude upon that specific reality. It may also explain why he apparently talks to BMO. He may have manipulated BMO into being his last herald, so while he's there, waiting, BMO can catch on to any possible interlopers and bring them to him. The Lich has been shown to be very manipulative and to possess great foresight so I don't think this is improbable.
An a.i can talk with you as long as it fits its parameters. He is a machine of logic that will always as work towards anhilation of all life the words are just a means to that end he doesn't think about them beyond their purpose to the goal. He doesn't lay in bed thinking oh I should have said that! He runs the numbers then acts if there is no decision to be made he freezes in a feedback loop. He didn't kill Fionna and Simon because they would die just by staying there or would open the door to more things to kill
He is not a fricking machine. He's just an evil wizard. If he truly was a mindless machine, he would have killed Simon and Fionna and Cake. If he really was just a robot he would have ended life after seeing life right in front of him.
He even says "I WOULD have killed you, [in the past, but I won't now]" presumably because he doesn't care to kill anyone anymore.

That's why he doesn't bother to kill anyone at prismo's party, it wouldn't lead to some kind of extinction level event.
That being said he definitely has a personality as well. It's quite possible he is bored now that he finished his mission.
The whole depressed line is hard to read because adventure time is loose with words meanings historically.

The Lich goes catatonic without something he acknowledges as living and able to be killed around. And given that universe's Lich killed all that lives, he was probably silent as BMO spoke with him.

He's very archetypal and does an excellent job at it. He speaks to a very true aspect of our reality. He stands out in the show as he's played completely seriously too. Also he's voiced by Ron Pearlman
Lich exhaustion was one the reasons I dropped the show when finn dad showed up. He is highly effective the first time he appears, a surprise on the second, but each consequential use of the character he gets worse and worse.
It works the first time so well because is a sucker punch out of nowhere, the show about the boy picking up balls with his ass had such a dark moment. After to tone of the show shifts more and more to a proper narrative the lich loses much of his allure. Kinda like a lot of the background shit AT had and all that implied.
And also, they were never really sure what the frick to do with him, they kept trowing him around like a treat but his own nature was just confusing. I was a stupid kid back them and maybe I would have enjoyed the tone of mystery better today and understood better what they were going for, but I remember just being disappointed.

He definitely lost a lot of his luster in the latter half of the show, the show even basically admits this with Finn being fed up with fighting him and treating him more like a nuisance that needs to be taken care of like Ice King.
