It's the tried and true classic Zeon story.
    >jobs uncontrollably
    >too little too late
    >if it weren't for X

Imagining if they succeeded or just changed things enough to win is like crack to them, it lives rent-free in their heads as the kids say nowadays.

Anon the Kampfer wiped out two or three squads of GM's before the Alex brought it down.

Sounds more like the GM Sniper II, Kampfer at least got to kick ass during it's screentime.

ironically the GM Sniper II also became a fan favorite after jobbing even worse against the Kampfer

      Anonymous

By rights, just having a few kills beforehand doesn't exclude it from jobbing. Jobbing is simply the act of losing for the sake of inflating the appearance of the winner, which is certainly what happens with the Kampfer getting taken out in order to demonstrate just how much of a beast the NT-1 was. Being able to take out a bunch of cannon-fodder suits first actually helped the Kampfer to job 'cleanly', by first showing that the Kampfer itself was a pretty powerful machine with a skilled pilot, so that once the NT-1 does take it out with a flick of the wrist(mounted machinegun) it's clear that the fight is still a fair one (rather than being obviously weighted the Gundam's favour) and the NT-1 is just that much more powerful

        Anonymous

I mean you're right that the fight was pretty fair or even in the Kampfer's favor since the NT1 was under-equipped and wasn't prepped for combat, but Misha getting shot up was because the pilot misread the situation and assumed the fight was gonna turn into a beam saber duel. That's more situational than a power or a skill problem. There's no way Misha knows it has pop-up gatling guns, and even if the Gundam has the standard Feddy head vulcans and the Kampfer has thin armor, the Kampfer can at least soak up head vulcan fire without getting stopped, but the force of the 90mm gatlings just tore him apart.
The other problem is that the Kampfer's fight felt way too short. It shot its load and felt like it didn't do very much. Losing a fight quickly just looks bad. No one thinks the NT1 or Bernie's Zaku FZ jobbed in the later fight, they were trading blows with each other and their fight certainly felt like it took longer.

I love how you midwits try to be pedantic and spin words to your favor, but come out wrong at the end of it. A jobber is simply a frequent loser. The Kampfer is not one of it. End of discussion.

          >I love how you midwits try to be pedantic and spin words to your favor,
          Irony.
Doing it frequently makes you a 'job*ber*', but being brought in to lose (because there always has to be a loser) is still 'job*bing*'. It is, literally in wrasslin' terms, 'doing one's job'. The Kampfer 'jobs' in 0080. It's that simple. Don't get assmad about it, moron

It wasn't set up to lose, dipshit. The Cyclops team built the Kampfer specifically for the Spec-Ops they were conducting and performed well at that. Their only miscalculation was the Chobham's durability. ONE mistake. That is not jobbing. Period.

If we're going to follow your ridiculous standards, then anything Char piloted is the true jobber because it keeps getting BTFO'd by the Gundam.

It's crazy how much char loses and loses during the original show(not the condensed movies). His allies always die but he gets off every time

                Anonymous

It's a matter of perspective. Sure, Char never beats the Gundam until the very end, but he also doesn't horribly die like every other Zeek who tried to take on the White Devil. Likewise in CCA, where Char at least tied up Amuro for a while, meanwhile Gyunei was barely a distraction.

              >It wasn't set up to lose, dipshit. The Cyclops team built the Kampfer specifically for the Spec-Ops they were conducting
Anon, it wasn't real. It was fiction. Much like with wrestling. A writer wrote the story, with the Kampfer there to establish the threat posed by the Gundam. It was introduced so that it could lose to the Gundam in spectacular fashion.
              > then anything Char piloted is the true jobber because it keeps getting BTFO'd by the Gundam.
Char kept fighting Amuro to a stalemate. Amuro never gets a conclusive win against Char in 0079. To the very end of the series, the best he manages is both of their machines being destroyed, and having to chase Char down on foot. Even in CCA, they start out with an inconclusive encounter at the beginning of the movie, before Amuro finally gets the upper hand at the end of the movie (while still managing to achieve his main objective because Londo Bell's plan to break Axis up goes wrong). He *isn't* just being brought in to 'do his job' and take the fall so that Amuro can have a win

                >First Zaku fight, withdraws after one of his dudes gets one-shotted by a beam weapon
                >Second Zaku fight, both sides withdraw to not burn up on re-entry
                >Third Zaku fight, Gundam forced to withdraw under White Base fire support as Char inflicting heavy damage
                >First Z'Gok fight, Char forced to withdraw as Gundam has inflicted heavy damage
                >First Gelgoog fight, Char takes damage and withdraws, Gundam runs out of energy and can't pursue
                >Second Gelgoog fight, Lalah dies saving Char, so Char withdraws
                >Zeong fight, both machines destroyed
That's not 'mediocre to bad' performance, that's Char being the superior pilot at first while Amuro slowly gets better and better and ultimately over takes him, with the Zeong then giving him a competitive edge

More like the reason it was in Rise from the Ashes was because it was so popular. You'd always see it popping up as a resin kit (because it wasn't in the old 0080 lineup) or someone's conversion of a GM Command in a model magazine. The Dreamcast game was the first time it got to be a major p.layer. Although that also highlights how the team behind the early Side Story games were trying as hard as possible not to invent a new Gundam like current stuff does.

GM Sniper II, GM Command, and GM Custom are like the ultimate 'self-insert' mobile suits - "My OG is not a 'Gundam' pilot at the start of the story, so I just give him a GM Command to distinguish him from the chaffs."

Exactly what's wrong with the Sniper & Custom?

          Anonymous

There's nothing wrong with those particular MS, just that they're the best available non-Gundam MS that the Federation has at the point just at or right after the OYW. Therefore it could be said that usually any named characters who are assigned those MS are probably pretty special to begin with.

Not very many. The G-Line from the 0081 game and manga has a shotgun. The clay bazookas that the AEUG use to disable enemy machines for capturing can fire both pellet rounds and sticky shots, but since the weapon is not shotgun-shaped, maybe it's considered more like a canister round for cannons?
