Reminder that after Shrek came out, Dreamworks cancelled not 1, but 2 films that were already in production for quite a while ( Tusker and Truckers ) because they knew that making a safe Shrek sequel would be more profitable. Honestly, screw Shrek 2.
>June 2001 : Andrew Adamson (Shrek 1 director) is working on a new project with a very good story >Shrek becomes an even bigger hit than anyone expected and wins the academy award >Katzenberg becomes a greedy and wienery frick, cancels the project and tells Adamson to make a quick Shrek sequel in less than 3 years instead
Shrek was, unfortunately, the beginning of the end of an era for Dreamworks Before and during Shrek's run, Dreamworks made movies with violence, sexual innuendos, and swearing. After Shrek 2's success, they began making dumb 3D comedies with more pop culture references and shitty jokes. Another reason why I hate Shrek 2.
Shrek 2 is a despicable piece of animation. I pity the kids who grew up watching this empty, shallow and crass garbage. Thankfully i wasn't one of them.
It was a hugely successful film with lowest common denominator writing and humor. Shrek 2 proved that you could be nothing but 83 mins of pop culture references and toilet jokes, and still be a huge hit. As such, everyone kinda stopped giving a shit around 2005 and especially 2006. Pixar aside, no one seemed like they wanted to take any risks or push the medium forward. Shrek 2 ushered an era of mindless mediocrity for years to come.
Shrek 2 came about around the time Dreamworks started making movies built on the comedy styles and personalities of the comedians they hired to voice it. Like Madagascar, Over the Hedge, and Bee Movie. They wanted their movies to be more like a live movie written by a comedian. Shrek 2 is more like a typical Lorne Michaels SNL cast movie but animated.
Shrek 2 becoming a huge financial success (the highest grossing animation film ever at the time) had a terrible effect in the animation industry. Haven't you noticed how, starting in 2005, both western animation films and shows started to get severely worse ? I'm not joking when i say Shrek 2 is the sole responsible for everything going to shit in the mid and late 00s (with only a few exceptions). It took Pendleton Ward's genius and sincerity to undo the damage caused by S2.
>Shrek 2 >one of the best sequels ever made
I get bored of it after 30 mins. It's not an interesting plot. Who cares if Shrek gets the blessing of his dickish father in law ? Plus, i don't care about the romance plot because Fiona is bland and has zero personality. The whole movie is predictable and uninteresting
We get it!
You're contrarian
It does not make you cool
Hell, the fact you do this consistently makes you pretty pathetic.
Your posts aren't going to change peoples opinions and Shrek 2 will always be widely regarded as one of Dreamworks best and Shark Tale one of their worst if you're the real Sharkgay

Let's pretend that Shark Tale never happened and look at Shrek 2 as its own thing without drawing comparisons. It's bad. It takes all of the quirks that made the first one so unique, and amplifies them to the point of self parody. What was refreshing in the first one became obnoxious the second time. It doesn't help that Shrek, Fiona and Donkey are no longer likeable or compelling characters in 2. Their personalities changed for the worse. They also made the mistake of adding product placement, which S1 didn't have.
Shrek 2 is a movie that starts out pretty strongly. The opening with Charming and the wolf is hilarious. However, it goes downhill after that. It starts making a series of poor writing choices that cause the viewer to become disconnected with the film, losing sympathy with the characters and not being able to be invested with the drama.
>Let's pretend that Shark Tale never happened
The only thing that would change would be that 2004 for Dreamworks would have a single good movie, rather than one movie that's really good and one that's really bad
would you say it's dreck?
>Shrek 3 exists
>this guy: "that's the best Shrek film"
I say this and look like that
Not you again

So Shrek 2 shouldn't have never existed, right?
Are you a genuine tard or just shitposting/being an annoying contrarian for shits and giggles?
Shrek 2 is a masterpiece compared to kung fu Panda 2. Now that's a trash sequel.
