Last I recall humans don't NEED sunlight, we can get the vitamins made from sun exposure from just food.
It's not only for vitamins, you need sunlight in your eyes (not directly of course) to release cortisol (important in the morning), for your inmune system , for the release of melatonin later on the day (important at night) and make you sleep, to make you not want to have a nice day, etc, yes we NEED sun . You can look up sun viewing and health, there's neuroscientific research on that if you actually care to look it up

Without knowing what's happening in the books I'm assuming that the outside world is either toxic or full of nanites.
There's a reason they're keeping all the objects and information about the outside secret and destroying it. They don't want people to think they can go outside because they factually can't go outside.
The only thing I don't get is how they're supposed to repair the generator and the items and literally everything inside the Silo forever. Obviously they can't stay there forever so that means there is an end point to the "plan", whatever that is and some set of conditions where they can finally exit.
So I'm assuming that eventually they'll find the rulebook and see what the conditions are then attempt to prove that they are met and so on
without reading the book either their are 2 things that puzzle me right now, why no magnification and why no lifts or elevators, not even to move stuff between floors, I also am sure outside is death, and I assume they keep the shitty looking outside to make it less likely someone will go out

Considering they're banning everything that is a part of the "old world" I think it's just one of those trope that the old ways brought ruin so they need to be purged and a new society needs to be conditioned a certain way to be successful next time around.
What's more interesting is that at a point in the past all the outside material was purged. So up until that point the material was okay and not hunted down, but something happened where they had to crack down on everything, as if the entire silo turned into a cult with the whole pact and so on. It doesn't seem to be like that from the start.

They are actively 'mining' presumably in order to continue the upkeep on required metals, that mere recycling won't support (there's a huge requirement of additional chemical solvents, combusted fuel etc that they simply should have run out of).
This mining somehow isn't getting them contaminated with the bad voodoo on the surface (no idea what floor the mines are on, be it way up at barely 20m below surface or 1.5k towards the bottom, either way THERE'S GOING TO BE GROUND WATER).

I think it's because they have to keep up the pretense that "you can go out, but not quite yet", which is why they have the walks and cleaning of the camera. The idea is that it gives them hope that it's possible, but not now.
Maybe they were all not meant to stay in the silo for as long as they did, and because of that the people in charge had to be more and more draconic and prevent any kind of movement that would insist on opening the silo up. So eventually they started destroying all the items related to the outside world or the past, because the plan changed and it was not possible to go out far beyond the planned time.

Don't know why I'm wasting my time with this shit, between all the race mixing propaganda and the setup twist I can just tell is going to be some gay environmental message "hurr humans almost destroyed the planet so we have to stay underground until the earth heals". I would bet a hundred bucks that's going to be the big reveal. Maybe there is some dolphin society or some shit that evolved while they stayed under and when they come out humans will be subservient to the much more sophisticated non human species.
