Silo ep8

What did we think of it?

Personally, I hate when the episode ends on a literal cliffhanger

It's so obvious that they are just going to repeat the incident that made the Pact in the first place. She is going to go down to Mechanical, they are going to rise up, and we'll never get an explanation for what the frick was going on in that hidden place George found.

Nah, there's fairly obviously more to it. Like what happens on the outside, what is the secret tunnel at the bottom and where does it lead to, and so on

She'll get sent to clean, but Supply will give the IT suits better tape, and she'll go over the hill into Silo 17. Bernard will panic and radio Silo 1 for help.

      >but Supply will give the IT suits better tape
This is from the books, but why did they do this? Why with this woman and not the multitude other people they send out?

no the suit is what kills people

        Anonymous

No it doesn't, the suit just doesn't work. The outside is what kills them

          Anonymous

          Yep.
The suits can protect cleaners, but as per the Pact rules given by Silo 1 to the other 49 Silos, cleaners are not permitted to live, so IT intentionally engineers the suits to fail after 2-3 minutes, which is roughly the time it takes for the cleaner to recover from the false screen and proceed to clean the camera. The nanos from the airlock argon directly erode the suit tape, and by the time they're outside, the nanos outside in Fulton County kill anything living.

Yep, all 50 silos are in Fulton County, Georgia.

I'm expecting the same thing with Severance. All media does this... former rivalries put aside to fight new evil...

                >I'm expecting the same thing with Severance
How the frick would it make sense for severance, that's only one company? There are entirely different questions there, for example "what the frick are they working on", "is there an entirely severed space where people never come out and what is its purpose" "what is up with all the masonic stuff" etc

Maybe that anon is talking about all the departments banding together to take on the people running the company

Silo 1 communicates with the other 49, but each silo head (Head of IT) cannot communicate with each other. In the books, Silo 40 managed to go rogue and hijack all comms for it and its neighbours before they went dark finally.
Each silo head has the knowledge passed down to them from their predecessors, while Silo 1 were the masterminds behind the nuking and nanobot cleansing of the world in 2052 (series and book 1 is set in 2345). Silo 1 personnel use cryogenics to work 6 month shifts on and 40-100 years off.

                >Silo 1 were the masterminds behind the nuking and nanobot cleansing of the world in 2052
                For what purpose?

                Anonymous

Nanotechnology became rampant after the 2020s with a war in Iran. Knowing that nanobots would eventually kill every, a group of men decided to orchestrate a "great reset" called World Order Operation Fifty (WOOL). 49 great facilities were to be carefully managed by the master facility (Silo 1) with the servers in each IT department in each silo playing mock wars to determine a winner over the course of 500 years.

In 2052, Operation Fifty nukes the entire planet and releases nanobots to cleanse the surface of the earth from all things human and man made, while keeping the silos in a small dust dome of deadly nanos to prevent an early exodus (aka the argon white gas every cleanse which keeps the world outside dead). Silo 1 uses men from the world before for 6 month shifts governing the silos; when they are done, they go into cryosleep for 40-100 years at a time.

The silo on E-Day in 2550 which has the highest surviving percentage for a return to the surface lives, and all the other 49 silos are destroyed to prevent conflict. Silo 1 is to suicide as well, as no knowledge of the "world before" can pass to the new inhabitants of the world.

Well, thanks for your elaborate answer.
I think I'll be checking out after season 1 ends, the plot is not that exciting.

What I need to add is that the show is 90% accurate to the books so all the information I'm posting is from the books, plus some web stuff about upcoming not yet selected casting for characters (eg Congressman Donald Keene, Senator Thurman, etc)

Yeah, the payoff for this twist would be if he was a closer ally to her. But she never really trusted him in the first place

Yeah and another problem is that they paid him as a calculating frick from the beginning instead of sympathetic. Honestly, him being the traitor is one of the least surprising person's to be one kek. If he had the personality of the previous mayor, then it would've been surprising

I already read a summary of the books and know where this is going. Any bookgays that actually read this, are they actually following it how it's written?

      Anonymous

Mostly. There's some different minor things like the Flamekeepers shit which wasn't in the books, but so far it's about 90% accurate.

        Anonymous

Well there was that old woman called The Crow or whatever from one of the later books who was basically a Flamekeeper.

Yeah she was in the Great Uprising during the events in the book Shift, she was presumably killed after Silo 1 did a reset on Silo 18.

I can't believe after 8 episodes so much nothing has happened. And it's now like they've spent the time of world building or interesting character stories, it's just a semantic vacuum.

Yeah out of the 8 episodes at least 5 felt like total filler
