You've never read a Silver Surfer comic. His relationsip with Shalla-Bal is important. It's also convenient how these gender/race swaps are only meaningless when it comes to certain groups it's permissible to be dismissive about.

Shalla-bal is a plot device and likely wouldn’t matter or even appear in the movie due to it being a FF flick and Surfer’s personal backstory is largely irrelevant in that context
