This. I'm 35 and grew up with B and B. However if I ever saw KOTH on TV I would turn it off. For me, it was an animated drama I gave no fricks about. I'm sure it's great if you're American but as a Brit it's painfully boring.

Except the new show and the movie are solid and are doing extremely well surprisingly enough. Sure there are franchises that should be left for dead but this ain't one of them. B and B got nerfed way back when the censors became worried about corrupting the children with it. They used to do drugs, violence and light things on fire for fun. Then they were watered down into every other generic comedy show you have ever seen, perhaps slight better than the rest. When they were on their game they were as funny as Good Simpsons with a harder edge.

The nu-writers don't seem to get the humor of the show. Beavis and Butthead was funny because they interacted largely with mentally unhinged people. Look at what happens when they wind up going to an army recruitment center.
The new characters are just bland. They're normal people who just go "You two are moronic" like the escape room employee. Where's Coach Buzzcut and McVicker. All the new season has had so far is Van Driessen and Mr. Anderson.
I think they are trying to avoid making new characters that stand out since it could mean less focus on them. Cinemaphile and similar forums destroy anything new on principle so most likely the don't want to risk the nostalgia sandwich they're making

Obviously new characters are fine so you have someone for the boys to interact with and progress the plot but ones that stick around and constantly appear but weren't originally part of the show are a problem.

Solar opposites started out OK. I only watch it for the wall kino but the other plots occasionally are funny. S3 wasn't as bad as I thought it would be considering how shitty the last 3 years have been. Suprisingly nobody on here or co mentioned it and I forgot it came out til now.
