I remember reading somewhere that the Charlton characters are already public domain.

DC Comics still has the trademark on a lot of things, however.

        >using trademarks to effectively keep a character out of the public domain is illegal
        >however we live in a world of rule of lawyers instead of rule of law, so Disney/WB are gonna make your life miserable with court cases and all kinds of loopholes, so you better not even try
Personally I believe people seethe too much about IP laws when it comes to fiction, since you can always just create your expies if you want, and they're gonna be more suitable to the story you want to write anyway, but it's still pretty dystopian.

Now we wait for canon stories where Batman rapes the Joker.

Same as Disney. Use trademark to force an effective copyright, update the characters so they own the latest and greatest versions, and branding to ensure the public knows which comics are the "official" ones and not knock-offs.

Some people will try and make comics but it will all fall apart quickly when they realise they can't really use anything people actually like

DC will come out and say you can only use the racist bodybuilder Superman who can jump over buildings, and not the real Kryptonian Superman. Just like how the "original" Mickey Mouse was a horrible animal abusing racist the very same day he hit public domain even though Disney never once pushed that image of him, but now is pearl clutching the image of the Saint Mouse so they can maintain the brand for another few years.

Mother fricker I didn't say shit. Disney is the one complaining about it and I'm sure DC will too. You have the reading comprehension skills of a 5th grader.

What happened to fan films? they use to be the biggest thing in early days of video. Are companies really that bad about this stuff now people are waiting for public domain?
