        >Hendrick muttered something; Zim said, 'Speak up!'
I'm not itching to resign, sir. I'm going to sweat out my term.'
I see. Well, the question you asked is one that a sergeant isn't really qualified to answer . . . and one that you shouldn't ask me. You're supposed to know the answer before you join up. Or you should. Did your school have a course in History and Moral Philosophy?'
        What? Sure--yes, sir.'
Then you've heard the answer. But I'll give you my own--unofficial--views on it. If you wanted to teach a baby a lesson, would you cuts its head off?'
        Why . . . no, sir!'
Of course not. You'd paddle it. There can be circumstances when it's just as foolish to hit an enemy with an H-Bomb as it would be to spank a baby with an ax. War is not violence and killing, pure and simple; war is controlled violence, for a purpose. The purpose of war is to support your government's decisions by force. The purpose is never to kill the enemy just to be killing him . . . but to make him do what you want him to do. Not killing . . . but controlled and purposeful violence. But it's not your business or mine to decide the purpose of the control. It's never a soldier's business to decide when or where or how--or why--he fights; that belongs to the statesmen and the generals.

About strong muscular soldiers owning nerds in teh Real War (c).
Real war came and those strong macho muscular soldiers are just cannon fodder who squirm in absolute agony under drones cameras and beg to no kill them. While nerds push buttons and rain artillery and drones death on those strongman chuds.

And yet the nerds pushing buttons do absolutely nothing to reclaim any territory. "Strongman chuds" as you call them are replaced and Russian occupation remains. Everybody clap. You killed someone and accomplished frick-all in the process.

The ones that feel the need to plaster their drone captured snuff webms all over the internet for propaganda purposes. That shit's not even as useful as they think it is. Statistically speaking most of the heavy lifting in this war has been done by medium range artillery.

                >Buddy, sometimes I send a girl out on an infiltration patrol, object: information-go out, find out, come back alive. How do you suppose I equip her?"
                >"Never mind. In the first place I don't pick an eager young recruit; I send some unkillable old-timer. She peels down to her underwear, darkens her skin if it is not dark, and goes out bare-handed and bare-footed, without so much as a fly swatter. I have yet to lose a scout that way. Helpless and unprotected you do grow eye's in the back of your head, and your nerve ends reach out and feel everything around you. I learned that when I was a brash young j.o., from a salty trooper old enough to be my mother."

All of Heinlein's books are genius and none of them are biased.
He makes fun of everything and he shows the importance of everything.

Fricking Commies talking shit about SST completely forget that The Moon is a cruel mistress shows how socialism/communism are complete farces.
Even funnier is that TMIACM is the better book with way more examples of Socialisms failures than SST shows militaristic/imperialisms failures.

However both books also show the good in both to some degree. Heinlein was about as neutral and objective as you could get for a dude who writes fanfiction.
The moment I hear someone shit talk him I default know they are midwit. Just smart enough to know they are smart, but not smart enough to realize how fricking stupid they truly are.

The point was to teach them a lesson in capacity to wage warfare. If they became reliant on a single aspect like bombs, small arms, etc.. then they would be effectively neutered if they ran out of bombs or their automated defenses went offline.

Soldiers these days rarely make use of hand to hand training. Does that mean it's useless and no soldier should ever be taught to kill with their bare hands? No, that's moronic. They'd be defenseless sitting ducks in the event of a weapons malfunction.
