It's more than that, but yeah. Lovecrafts biggest fears were very simple, in your face, and totally unavoidable. Picnic at Hanging Rock covers it perfectly. And is also, just a very nice looking movie in general.

The monsters from the Mist aren't Kaiju. They are just foreign animals for all intents and purposes. Normal military weaponry chews them up like anything else.
