Small Soldiers - War for the Necron

If this does well is there any chance whatsoever of getting another movie? Or is the game itself doomed anyway for being based on such a niche old title? Small Soldiers thread I guess.

imagine a new show/movie but now kinda taking itself serious, with the toy fighting to survive while also killing each other.

Well it's meant to be a toy from a more modern franchise. The Gorgonites and the Commando Elite were based on GI Joe and Transformers. These new toys are based on something more like Overwatch or another franchise filled with butch strong female characters.

Doesn't look like it's going to be following up on the events of the movie. At the end of the movie the Gorgonites decided to go into the woods at yellowstone to build their own civilization. The commandoes got all blown up by an emp but the ceo of the company said he was going to sell the surplus toys to the military.
So is this just going to be a retread of the original movie?

If Kevin is doing what he did with Medabots, he legally can't directly reference any of the original movie's characters.

What he did with Medabots was take advantage of a lapsed trademark. That allows him to use the name, but it doesn't grant him any ownership of prior iterations or the material within. That's why his Medabots game doesn't feature any of the pre-existing designs. He'd be violating copyright laws by using them.

The trailer not mentioning DreamWorks at all makes me think he found another lapsed trademark. He's managed to get some wins in his legal fight over Medabots, but DreamWorks isn't a small Japanese games publisher with no overseas offices.

The only other thing they've done is that Medabots mobile game. IIRC, he comes from a background in finance. That game is effectively unofficial and it's been the subject of various lawsuits around the world.

          Anonymous

True…But personally I found them pretty entertaining, generic or simple doesn’t always mean bad. I believe that with good enough writing you can make ANY idea work and be enjoyable.

        Anonymous

I mean - the whole point of Chip Hazard and the Commonado Elite was they were a walking assemblage of pro-military, propaganda-adjacent gung-ho American stereotypes. Just go back and watch Chip Hazard's speech - it's just a nonsense string of cliches and quotes from other media. It's effectively an anti-war/anti-military-industrial complex movie due to how it leans into showing why marketing that kind of thing to kids as a toy line is maybe not a great thing to be doing.

If they're smart with any kind of sequel/reboot, they'll pick out similar themes in current media and subvert them somehow. Maybe satirise girlboss capitalism with LE STRONG WOMAN military toys or something.

Roger Rabbit was explicitly about cartoons and featured many prominent classic cartoon characters, there was never a gray area there and it's not really applicable to other movies where live action interacts with animated characters/environments unless they're acknowledged in-universe as being animated.

      >meanwhile the kid can destroy the singular toys with one good baseball bat hit, forcing the remaining toys to do a whole Barbie Doll thing to allow their comrades to respawn
      >If the kid manages to take all of them out or warn the adults then the toys lose, if the toys manage to whittle the kid's health down through a thousand cuts or take out all the adults by slipping sleeping pills into their glasses or electrocuting them with sabotaged wiring then the toys win
      >maps range from "small" like a toy store where you can hide among the toys to ambush, to a couple of houses in a neighbourhood where you can take out the neighbours while the kid is busy at one of the other houses

      Yay or nay?

        Anonymous

Oh also I suppose the kid side should have a small amount of Gorgonite players as well, for there to be a little more pew pew between players, but they wouldn't have a respawn like the Commandos so the kid would have to help them with heals or something. Maybe they end up on the Commando side if they die completely, making it harder for the kid if he doesn't protect his little pals. They'd run interference to slow down the Commando Elite's plans, so that the kid has time to show up and destroy their trap or take a bunch of them out if they're clustered and fighting Gorgonites.

          >admitted diverting €12.2 million from La Seda's corporate coffers to other firms in a web of fictitious enterprises.

His associate is Fadi Kalil, someone who’s also arrested for fraud in the Netherlands and fled to Dubai

He comes from a wealthy family. His dad embezzled funds from an investment firm and help distribute it to fictitious companies in a complex web and was charged thanks to europol.

He stole the medabot name the moment it expired and then made a complete knockoff. He lives in andorra which is a notorious tax haven for criminals in Spain and Italy, and Spain was lenient to side with him because they accept all types of crypto bullshit. He used the name to make a nft crypto scam and fooled “100,000” users, mostly from Latin America. His representative of the studio was a Arab criminal that got arrested for fraud in the Netherlands then fled to Dubai. He didn’t pay his Pakistani offshore people that made the shovelware and dropped them. When he announced the project, some shmuck gave him 50 million for “nft” projects he plans on making; which is clear it’s just money laundering and not a cash injection/investment.

He then proceeded to do the same with mega babies, biker mice, and now this. This is not in any way associated with small soldiers or the companies behind it, this video is a means to fleece people for their money in return for a nonexistent game/project.

For context, all of his shills are mostly Latinos and Indians earning a few dollars per day. His shills tried doing this on Cinemaphile with medabots and got exposed so he tripled down on social media; he ended up getting the medabot hashtag banned and reset because of his shills abusing it. He seems to be successful with this con as apparent by the replies of this thread and /toy/ and I do not sympathize with anyone who’s going to be tricked by this yet again.

I'll be completely honest, no, I wasn't particularly interested until just recently with some of the replies. Deeply regretting that now...what a shitshow, this is hilarious.

Frick man ! I didn't expected that, I am kind of impressed how he was able to fool so many people.

I just hope this makes the big studios realize there may actually be some money in the small soldiers brand.

Welp…There go my hopes for a cool Small Soldiers sequel/reboot game with a xenophobic tomboy space marine GF.

Me to. How does someone steal so many IPs and Release such a well made trailer with no involvement from the IP holders?!

You do know that GW doesn't own the word Necron, right?

They do when it comes to a fictional toy by the name 'Necron'. A first-year law school scrub could win that case, anon. And yes, they do actually own the word in a commercial context.

I don't see Necron on that, and they'd be hard pressed to enforce it, since the name existed before Warhammer 40K did.

...and all associated logos, illustrations, images, names, creatures, races, vehicles, locations,...

CTRL+F isn't always your friend, anon.

Plus, the box in the video even says 'NECRON ARMY'. Can't really get easier than that.

              >...and all associated logos, illustrations, images, names, creatures, races, vehicles, locations,...
None of that matters unless they can prove they came up with it
              >NECRON ARMY
Now that is actually be something they could enforce, since a "Necron Army" IS something that they did come up with.
They can't claim Necron as a name, because they didn't come up with it. But they did come up with the idea of a militaristic species named as such.

Loved the movie as a kid, I remember clamoring for the Chip Hazard toy, but they weren't sold where I lived.
Also, the video is not a videogame, it's just a concept some students slapped together in UE5.

What a bizarre IP to try and profit off of. Was Small Soldiers really that popular back in the day? This really could've been its own thing.

I'd say it was like Space Jam, but not as popular. The kids really liked it, everyone else shrugged it off. Now those kids grew up, so it's kinda like a nostalgic hidden gem.

That's true. To be honest I just noticed it's was small soldiers some time later since I completely forgot about the IP.
