The dwarves ARE AI generated. The outrage started because it wasn't going to be Snow White and the 7 Dwarves. It was going to be Snow White and the 7 BANDITS. That title went over like a hat made of shit, so they went with Dwarves...mind you, only 1 in the cast fit the descriptive names they had (there was an actual dwarf among the 7 diversity hires), but they decided to run with it. I guess they thought using the legacy name would dupe fools into paying to see this shitshow.
When flaws with the movie over-all were pointed out on social media, and after several interviews where the lead proudly stated that this would be a movie that did away with the "outdated" fairy tale trope of a woman needing a man to rescue her (and we ALL know Snow White was helpless as hell. Every time she acted in her own agency, she would end up in deeper shit, without fail). After putting her foot in her mouth and her asson her shoulders, the lead pulled a Brie Larson and told everyone to frick themselves, then demanded Disney pay her extra for doing nothing.
After continuing incidents like this, Disney recast Pecan Brown- er, Snow White as yet ANOTHER latina, and decided to CGI in the dwarves. So by attempting to save money by not hiring dwarves...the ended up probably quadrupling the budget of a movie that was already over budget when it was initially doe and slated to make back less than HALF. This is going down in history as Disney's greatest failure yet, and I strongly suspect an incompetent woman is at the helm.

I think the expectation might've been to try and at least prioritize race appropriate characters, but not lock them into typecasting either. It's a nice thought, but the people in charge of these things aren't super good at making decisions on how to balance things in any other metric than "what will keep the money flowing most?"

I'm going to play devil's advocate. Some people think orcs are racial caricatures of blacks, and have pretty much successfully removed classical orcs from tabletop games. Given this is the ridiculous current year we are living in, is Dinklage's ridiculousness out of the ordinary? I would say no.

Snow White was always my favorite film done by Disney. Something about the art and audio just has such a unique and heavy feeling. Maybe it's just because it's the oldest, but even when I was about 5 year's old I was aware of it.
I haven't seen it since I was a really young kid and even then I'm not entirely certain I actually saw it, and that I'm not just remembering clips from somewhere.
I've been meaning to really sit down and immerse myself in a rewatch but I always forget or it's not the time. At this point I might as well wait for the 100 year anniversary in 2037 and watch it rereleased in the cinema for the first time, to really get my mind blown by it all.

They shouldn't be giving in to public pressure. By all means they should have never done any of these things in the first places but the fact that they did and they decided to go through with it shows there is a lacking element in the teams at disney. In this case it isn't even like they can get away with it by claiming that it doesn't matter because Dwarves being in snow white is not just a matter of localization but it is literally an integral aspect of the story. Whoever decided to make snow white without the dwarves in the first place is the problem because in a business term they dumped X amount of money into making it without dwarves and go are supposed to have people around to make sure you don't make those mistakes before you dump money into it. Changing it now is doing it after they dumped money into it.
