WB should have unironically just continued the Timmverse DCAU. Still have animated series but interspersed with a big budget animated movies every few years or so. Batman and Superman already got their big arcs in their respective series, JL fleshed out WW, Wally Flash, MM, Hawkgirl and Stewart GL. JLU gave us a frick ton of kino starring lesser known DC heroes. Both Mask of the Phantasm and Batman & Mr Freeze: Sub Zero are critically acclaimed. Timm and Dini's style is great too. Timeless. Every locale whether it's Metropolis or Gotham or somewhere else inbetween looks modern and retro at the same time. Helps with the suspension of disbelief by not having a set "era".
And biggest of all, at least to me, they already had an incredible lead on Marvel. The 80s, 90s and 00s had DC dominating Marvel with the obvious exceptions of Spider-Man, X-Men and later Iron Man. Hell, I'd say DC has been consistently better than Marvel since the beginning. Marvel's only IPs that could compete with DC's powerhouses were always and only Spider-Man and X-Men. Marvel's current cinematic success over DC is all thanks to WB suits going full moron panic mode when they found out IM was the start of a cinematic universe.
