So Blood Meridian will never make it to the big screen will it?
I mean it can't, there is too much "edge" in it, what kind of rating will it get? What studio would even fund it?

I miss when Italians did film.
It would get made to sully the source material and author. Otherwise the expecations are too high as Apocalypse Now inna desert. Casting the judge is a nightmare.
A somewhat campy Spaghetti Western splatter gore treatment with some allowances for humor, Natural Born Killers levels of violence, could be good.
I think the only way you could make it is by keeping the characters of the Judge and the Kid but the gang almost completely changed to a more wholesome version. There would be some internal conflict in the gang about morality of various actions, murdering of hostages etc. Then the Kid comes into conflict as the force for good with the final third a showdown with the jduge
I have to read the book again but this was the one scene that really confused me.
how?
what happens here?
It's towards the end of the book.
The Big Guy Judge is hunting down the Kid
It will make it to the big screen pretty soon, anon. It will simply be neutered to hell and back and thus a glib emulation.
Ah yes, a glib facsimile.
I wanted to say that just to say it but it'd be wrong, so I was robbed. 🙁
I said a SMART thing and it was RIGHT!
I would rather see In the Rogue Blood get an adaption.
who cares? it's not even a good book.
> when the judge monologues to the kid at the end of the book and its also directed at the reader
> called out for being a passive observer in the nightmare odyssey
spooky tbh
>when the judge rips a howitzer from its moorings to threaten the attacking Yuma and walks out of the ferry camp stark naked.
Is that image honestly supposed to be the judge? Why does every artist who draws him make him look like a body builder? He's supposed to be fat, like a giant baby
>Did somebody say unsupervised children?!
There is no proof whatsoever the Judge raped or killed any children
What about that young blonde boy they found at the mission? Or the little Mexican girl who went missing?
No proofs
>kids all found dead and violated any time they enter a new town
>kids all have xbox huge strangle bruises on their necks that could only be done by a humanoid with xbox huge hands
>Judge is the only big motherfricker in the entire area
I wonder...
The anon has been in the sun too long!
>Black folk, women, and whiskey destroy the world
Will they cut this line?
>doesn't include "money"
Finance wannabe, day-trading moron spotted, going in for the killshot, fellas.
what exactly is so "edgy" about it?
dicky, the Judge raped a lot of it
Nothing here is unfilmable and there is already precedent for all these things in other movies
> hurr durr i want a classic ameican novel summarised to me in Cinemaphile replies
just go and read it ffs
>Apaches depicted as savage warriors
>Dead babies in trees
>lots of scalping
>The No no word
>israelite selling guns
>rape and killing of children
>It's pretty "raw" for normies as there are no good guys*
It's fricking great, though.
*there are some nice guys who gave the kid a knife and shit
a lot of imagery is meant to convey the west as if it's like the brutal dark ages to kind of reflect the biblical themes, I'm not sure that could be captured on camera well while being authentic
You have to look for it, but there are kind acts of mercy. Like the woman who took care of the kid after he got shot. The cattle herders you mentioned. Whomever flipped the kid over after his fight with Toadvine so he wouldn’t drown in the mud. The Mexican woman who brought the inmates meat and sweets in prison. Even the kid showed mercy by pulling the arrow out of Brown’s leg.
>>israelite selling guns
this is based, i wish a israelite would sell me a gun
Keep in mind it was state of the art shit that made the gang almost invinsible as every man carried two
who would they even cast? my vote for the judge but it's honestly a hard role
Idris Elba.
He could do it. But I see picrel resonating with his religious background and Mad Max experience.
He’s my pic for Glanton.
imagine this 6'8" mf running at you ass naked
He wa the best part of the Daredevil, Game of thrones and Punisher
Can't tell if this is bait or not
I'm serious, I liked him the most
here's my choice
this. Glenn Fleshler is a nobrainer for the judge.
only 4 things what can destroy the world:
money, women, whiskey, and forgetting to queue your base's unit production to the nearest mineral line
Would you rather live in the wild west or Baltimore?
Wild west, no contest. At least in the wild west I can shoot Black folk who try to rob me and not go to prison for it
Best Book.
If i'm remembering right, the "protaganist" is being hunted in a canebreak on the Gila river in S Arizona.
The writer really captured me with his excellent descriptions of the nature. I could picture their journeys. If yall like this author the "border trilogy" is really good too. They actually adapted all the pretty horses into a movie and its painfully average. Great book tho.
should I read it? I habve it here but don't know I'm quite lazy
The prose can be daunting, but just keep on reading. You will get into it after a couple of pages.
>The prose can be daunting
if you don't read books then blood meridian isn't the one to start with
Is this book actually good or is it a meme? I've seen it posted on Cinemaphile a lot, even long before it gained it's recent unusual popularity on Cinemaphile, but I've never made the time to read it.
It’s pretty good, but to really appreciate it you’ll need to do some extra reading. Otherwise you can enjoy it as a story about a grand of scalpers working in Mexico, Arizona and California in the 1840’s.
Its as morally bankrupt and soulless as anything else you'll find in the American canon. Do yourself a favor and read Harry Potter instead.
Currently under production, John Hillcoat will direct.
Holden is literally uncastable.
He is very castable
Too old-looking and kind, he needs to be subtly sinister
maybe the director of bone tomahawk or the one that did The Road. Lucio Fulci did some edgy westerns back in the day that were gory and full of rape, so he was the best one for the job
