So Blood Meridian will never make it to the big screen will it?

So Blood Meridian will never make it to the big screen will it?
I mean it can't, there is too much "edge" in it, what kind of rating will it get? What studio would even fund it?

It would get made to sully the source material and author. Otherwise the expecations are too high as Apocalypse Now inna desert. Casting the judge is a nightmare.

A somewhat campy Spaghetti Western splatter gore treatment with some allowances for humor, Natural Born Killers levels of violence, could be good.

I think the only way you could make it is by keeping the characters of the Judge and the Kid but the gang almost completely changed to a more wholesome version. There would be some internal conflict in the gang about morality of various actions, murdering of hostages etc. Then the Kid comes into conflict as the force for good with the final third a showdown with the jduge

It will make it to the big screen pretty soon, anon. It will simply be neutered to hell and back and thus a glib emulation.

a lot of imagery is meant to convey the west as if it's like the brutal dark ages to kind of reflect the biblical themes, I'm not sure that could be captured on camera well while being authentic

You have to look for it, but there are kind acts of mercy. Like the woman who took care of the kid after he got shot. The cattle herders you mentioned. Whomever flipped the kid over after his fight with Toadvine so he wouldn’t drown in the mud. The Mexican woman who brought the inmates meat and sweets in prison. Even the kid showed mercy by pulling the arrow out of Brown’s leg.

    Best Book.

If i'm remembering right, the "protaganist" is being hunted in a canebreak on the Gila river in S Arizona.
The writer really captured me with his excellent descriptions of the nature. I could picture their journeys. If yall like this author the "border trilogy" is really good too. They actually adapted all the pretty horses into a movie and its painfully average. Great book tho.

It’s pretty good, but to really appreciate it you’ll need to do some extra reading. Otherwise you can enjoy it as a story about a grand of scalpers working in Mexico, Arizona and California in the 1840’s.

maybe the director of bone tomahawk or the one that did The Road. Lucio Fulci did some edgy westerns back in the day that were gory and full of rape, so he was the best one for the job
