I'm broadly a fan, I would admit his movies are dumb. 300 was sick. Watchmen was visually good, but maybe missed the point of the comic in a few ways. The Batman movies looked kind of lame, I didn't bother watching them, but I'm sure they have more style and machismo than what Joss Whedon did with it.

watchmen sucked ass, man. i watched the director's cut, which was supposed to be the better-received version of the two, and it was 3 hours of wading through a comic book story while failing to make ANYTHING interesting. visuals included imo, but i'm mainly talking about the characters and plot. snyder had 3 hours to make me feel any emotional connection to or association with the characters, their goals, and their outcomes, and there was zero. when dr. manhattan heemed rorschach at the end i had the same emotional response as if i were to walk outside, look at the sky, and go, "huh, it's cloudy today." the cinematic equivalent to a wikipedia plot synopsis. and don't even get me started on the scoring. close-up on a gargoyle, zoom out, pan, "the sound of silence" starts playing? leonard cohen's "hallelujah" while they frick? 99 luftballons? it's like if an 8th grader rescored a film for their media arts class project
