Dreamworks has always been hit and miss. They have never been consistently great and even among their hits their sequels eventually damage the good films. People only worship Dreamworks because they are the only competition Disney has ever had.
Disney is Nintendo and Dreamworks is Sega. Though funny enough Nintendo themselves are directly starting their own animation studio and that is going to be more interesting to keep an eye on. The sooner Nintendo takes their properties away from illumination the better.

And for some brands, this isn't a secret. They're quite open about how they want their restaurants to be a familiar experience around the world, and to be able to find them anywhere you go.
It's not who is part of the culture so much as what. And the what is having you buy your goods, foods and services from global corporate businesses that can local businesses simply can't compete with. Driving them out and leaving you with a main street that looks something like this.

Honestly? No, not specifically. Obviously any large film studio will want to produce a movie that successful and in order to be successful you have to be able to market it to the largest number of people possible. An understanding of these basic precepts of a corporate/consumer culture can help recognize in the future how larger businesses operate. It's not overtly malicious and not a goal of lizardmen. It's the driving force of basic business.
Personally I don't see anything terribly offensive about the movie, but I'm sure that's precisely the goal here. To make something inoffensive and moderately entertaining.
And at the risk of defending all this, it makes sense from a business standpoint. Your primary goal and the most important one as a business is to make money. If you don't make it goal one, you stand a good chance of someone out competing you who does.

My hot take that probably just rewrites the movie:
Protag is sea witch, who are just a bloodline of special humans. Sea witches get super fish/ocean creature transformation kaiju mode.
Mermaids are not human. Have (among other things) ability to change shape and color to look pretty amongst humans and manipulate them.
Moral of the story is that protag is good inside, while superficially pretty mermaids are inhuman monsters. Teaches kids that just looking pretty doesn't make someone a good person. If you want to avoid accidentally saying pretty=bad, just make some pretty girls who are initially mermaid girl's friends but turn on her when she starts acting nasty. If you want to keep the protagonist as an outcast then just make it so that her sea witch heritage has been causing problems her whole life, like always being a bit damp which means people at school make fun of her.

Dreamworks has always been hit and miss. They have never been consistently great and even among their hits their sequels eventually damage the good films. People only worship Dreamworks because they are the only competition Disney has ever had.
Disney is Nintendo and Dreamworks is Sega. Though funny enough Nintendo themselves are directly starting their own animation studio and that is going to be more interesting to keep an eye on. The sooner Nintendo takes their properties away from illumination the better.

It's not who is part of the culture so much as what. And the what is having you buy your goods, foods and services from global corporate businesses that can local businesses simply can't compete with. Driving them out and leaving you with a main street that looks something like this.

Honestly? No, not specifically. Obviously any large film studio will want to produce a movie that successful and in order to be successful you have to be able to market it to the largest number of people possible. An understanding of these basic precepts of a corporate/consumer culture can help recognize in the future how larger businesses operate. It's not overtly malicious and not a goal of lizardmen. It's the driving force of basic business.
Personally I don't see anything terribly offensive about the movie, but I'm sure that's precisely the goal here. To make something inoffensive and moderately entertaining.
And at the risk of defending all this, it makes sense from a business standpoint. Your primary goal and the most important one as a business is to make money. If you don't make it goal one, you stand a good chance of someone out competing you who does.

My hot take that probably just rewrites the movie:
Protag is sea witch, who are just a bloodline of special humans. Sea witches get super fish/ocean creature transformation kaiju mode.
Mermaids are not human. Have (among other things) ability to change shape and color to look pretty amongst humans and manipulate them.
Moral of the story is that protag is good inside, while superficially pretty mermaids are inhuman monsters. Teaches kids that just looking pretty doesn't make someone a good person. If you want to avoid accidentally saying pretty=bad, just make some pretty girls who are initially mermaid girl's friends but turn on her when she starts acting nasty. If you want to keep the protagonist as an outcast then just make it so that her sea witch heritage has been causing problems her whole life, like always being a bit damp which means people at school make fun of her.
