Why would they join the moneyless economy of the UFP though? Ferengi work best as a neutral party. I know that in the novels set during the same time period they merely entered into an alliance with the Feds, along with the Cardies.

Basically what happens is shortly after Nemesis, a quarter of the galaxy gets nuked by crazed, vengeful Borg, and the resulting power vacuum leaves the Feds' enemies (Romulans splinter groups, Tholians, etc.) to form their own alliance, which they call the Typhon Pact. The Feds respond by expanding the Khitomer Accords to include the Cardassians and Ferengi.

Not in universe, but I think the closest thing we got was some of the old writers got together for a documentary or something where they did a "what if" for a one season return. "What we left behind." It's a small pitch for the beginning of S8 and you can kind of see why it was good they ended it when they did, because they just kill a character for shock value.

There’s a lot of magic and omnipotent aliens in Star Trek but none of them use it to do anything righteous like destroy all the Borg. They all just find starship captains and cast spells at them.
One wonders what’s stopping a rogue entity like Catspaw aliens and the Q from just cleaning house in the galaxy. Q and the Prophets seem only willing to affect the galaxy in indirect ways while also displaying the ability to alter reality.
I think there’s something bigger and more magical than them keeping them all in check.

I just skimmed over the plot points of discovery and not only did it take a big whole shit on the federation and star fleet, it ruined lore for that whole era with what it did. It's like they realized no one was watching so they decided to try and ruin the timeline so no one else could write anything in that era. Every clip I've seen someone is crying or yelling, crutches for the modern tv writer, unable to express any subtlety. It's best we pretend everything nutrek is non canon

Enterprise and all of classic Trek was only ever 'dark' for the sake of telling a more serious story. Modern Trek, along with many other franchises, seek to shock and disturb the viewer purely for it's own sake

is this the nu-trek b***h thread? I watched a random STD episode because I saw on memory alpha that it had a bunch of aliens in it like xindi-insectoids and I wanted to see their take on the makeup.

Anyway, the show struck me as really 'off' in the dialogue and I spent some time wondering why as I was watching it. I realised that unlike real trek it never actually lets things 'breathe' and thereby creates no tension, it just skips from one line to the next without ever stopping. It's like it's got ADHD and it's incredibly off-putting. For some reason other modern shows don't suffer from this as much so I wonder why this was allowed to happen.
