I explain that it's not theft, because you're making a copy. Nothing is being taken when it happens. Anyone anti-piracy is just defending the rich, so I hope they're one of them.

It's a victimless crime, like tax evasion or punching someone in the dark

You just steal revenue from them, no biggie.

      >In 2020, there were an estimated 137.2 billion visits to film and TV piracy sites globally, which cost the US economy at least $29.2 billion in lost revenue each year.
      >Combined global theatrical and home entertainment revenue represented $99.7 billion
      https://cybernews.com/news/piracy-costs-entertainment-industry-billions-says-report/

So, you steal a third of their revenue (not saying it's bad once again, but don't lie to yourselves).

The real number is prob 1/10th of the number the MPA reports. They have moronic math to make the problem seem worse than it is to get the government to pay attention. Like their math assumes every single peer that even partially downloaded the movie would've otherwise paid full price to see the movie.

If its a movie i want to see in theaters then i buy a ticket. If i enjoyed the movie then I buy it. If its an artist I want to support then I buy a vinyl, a shirt, and a concert ticket. I'm only purchasing once so after that I'm illegally downloading. Everything I don't like but share is also an illegal download. Shits expensive and the quality is mostly shit and you're expected to pay every month or for every hard copy. Stupid

I'm open to hearing opinions/criticisms on my viewpoint

I pirate because I could never afford to own movies, but I'm also quite antagonistic to most Hollwood works anyway, and so I generally wouldn't want to support them by giving them money. I'm still supporting them by watching their movies and giving them free advertising by word of mouth etc, but I don't want to support them with my money.

This is like how I eat fast food sometimes but wouldn't want to work in fast food as I'd be supporting it even more. So it's about levels of support for things. I actually wouldn't mind working for 2 days a week in a kitchen if the pay were decent enough, I worked fast food as a teen and it was kinda fun.

I think morality is about choosing what you support. The work I've been doing (writing books, drawing childrens books) has been close to the morally best I can think of. But I have a stronger moral compass and am more intelligent and empathetic than virtually anyone I know, so I'm special in that regard, also extremely disagreeable. Virtually all modern jobs are immoral, both because they support zog through taxes and because the specific line of work is morally bad or degenerate, like if you become a teacher in a city you'll be teaching nonWhites.

I could start listing reasons as to why piracy =/= stealing, going into things about the availability of the original product (stealing removes the product from the market, piracy doesn't), that all the creative members (ie. actors) of the projects have already been paid, how people never would have seen the movie anyways if they couldn't pirate it or even how it's literally free advertising (IF the movie is good enough, which makes companies furious because they would have to make better products), but I realized that I'm not going to do any of that and I'll just write something much better that infuriates anti-piracy people to the core...

it isn't "stealing and illegal" because it's perfectly legal in my country to pirate for non-commercial purposes. Take that "land of the free" lmao.
