The Phantom Zone doesn't have a much better track record than any other prison in the DC Universe, quite frankly.

      What comic is this from?

I honestly think Batman can get over a killing easier than most people think. Maybe not in this case, specifically, but there are numerous ones where I think Bats would be more or less fine with it.

I know people rag on it a lot but I honestly like the notion that Batman cares about Joker (even if he'd never outright admit it). It's weird and fricked up, but Batman is a weird and fricked up guy. They've known each other so long and have been central figures in each other's lives in that time. There's a tragic element to it. Batman is often the only person who shows actual concern for Joker, but he can't help Joker and they can never be friends or see eye to eye.

Batman is not supposed to be that weird and fricked up, people who think of him like that are the same who unironically say shit like "woah Batman is just as crazy as his villains, huh?".
Joker is the one who obsesses over Batman, not the other way around.

I wasn't necessarily talking about Batman obsessing over Joker (though of course some writers do make him like that) but just caring about him in a way.

uh... what the hell just happened? why did Batman get sucked into there?

I think he turns into a spirit or something? The ending confused me a bit when I read it (Batman: Damned)

He cares about Joker like he cares for any of his other villains, he only puts more attention to the Joker because he's the worst one.

That's directly contradicted by the many many examples of him showing concern for Joker. You can dislike it or attribute it to bad writing but it's a pretty consistent aspect of his character by now.

Clearly a popular comic book character who has been around for so long and been written by many different writers isn't going to be 100% consistent all the time, but given how often he has shown a particular concern for Joker (moreso than he does for other members of his rogues gallery) I think it's fair to call it a pretty consistent trait.

No, I mean if The Joker was legitimately fighting Robin, and Robin hit The Joker in the head and he died. I don't think Batman would be too broken up over that; he might say "I wish he were still alive", but I don't think he'd agonize over it at all.

          Also
          >it's a supposed vision from a possible future where all heroes lose.

So, when the heroes lose, The Joker dies and is humiliated. When heroes win, the joker breaks out and maims countless people for laughs. Are we on the bad side?

I think it's framed more like the Joker is being used as bait for Batman, he gets killed in front of Jon in that same vision, and the BatFamily all job to the Jon's villain too.

He'd spaz out and might kill the Robin, depending on if they were trying to kill his husbando.

Okay, I should admit two things.

1.) I'm mostly referring to modern incarnations of Batman. Batman could really be a moron when it came to the Joker in some comics, but I feel like he's more consistent in the modern comics. Although that doesn't always matter because

2.) It depends on the writer. Sometimes batman is written so dumb that you'd think he loves The Joker more than anything.

Also, the writer of that comic eventually made up for the "batman cutting Jason's throat" thing in the animated version of this. I think the animated version is way better and more compelling, so I feel like I have no reason to be upset with this version of the events. I'm still going to be though.

So with the sliding timeline villains like the Joker break out of prison several times per week. Considering this why haven't the citizens of Gotham made a petition to make death penalty legal since clearly the current system doesn't work?

The nokilling rule is only a popularity contest. If Joker was just a random goon there wouldnt be any "moral discussions" about killing him. But because he has lots offans the writers can never kill him or sent him to prison permanently, he is always brought back to boost sales and nothing more.

Much like in the Telltale games, I kinda wish Bruce and Joker had a legitimate friendship way back when, long before either went down their respective paths. That way, you could at least excuse Batman's obsession with keeping the Joker safe in the name of their past friendship and the hopes that he can save his fallen friend.
