so if Superman got his power from our yellow sun, if we went to his planet which orbits a red dwarf star, would WE have superpowers THERE?

No. Kryptonians have evolved to utilize energy from the sun, when they go to a system with a comparatively much brighter star they get superpowers.

Superman was originally envisioned as John Carter in reverse. Just like how John Carter gets superpowers on Mars because Earth has higher gravity than Mars, Superman gets superpowers on Earth because Krypton has higher gravity than Earth. So if you go to Mars, you'll have superpowers.

It was the gravity but also that his "evolution is a million years advanced of our own" that's why he was called "The Man of Tomorrow".

When a human has methanol poisoning what actually kills them is their liver breaking down the methanol into formaldehyde, to prevent this the patient is given ethanol which the liver preferentially breaks down so the methanol can be safely excreted. When Superman is exposed to red sun rays his body preferential metabolizes them, that's why he instantly loses power despite having yellow sun energy still stored in the cells of his body.

Thanks. Idk why Lex doesn't built a kryptonite laser gun and blast Superman in the fricking face. Aliens go home!

See, now this is what I was trying to get at. The red sun refers to the sun setting on or rising on the horizon. The sun's not even changing form, it's just a visual effect.

So why would that hurt Superman irl? In any case, I say we attack his ass at sunset.

His anus would probably be too tight to enter and if he sucked your wiener he'd have to be really careful not to suck too hard and accidentally kill you. Also his cumshots would be so powerful they could smash through walls (or the back of your throat).

Something about glycose (energy) we expend which generally increases while awake, or more specifically active. It's not so much about sleep, but rest. Sleep is just advanced, focused rest.
But if Superman consistently has comparatively infinite amounts of energy reserved, why would he ever need to sleep, or even rest?

We get our energy from food, not resting though, and the real reason why we need to sleep relates to our brains but the exact reason is unknown. Superman presumably has to sleep for the same reasons we do, the real question is why does he need to eat?

Never has the sun = energy thing been quantified with harder definitions or measurements. It means nothing and says nothing. If it was just calories, again, he'd be a glorified plant. Why does sunlight allow him to juggle buildings? At a certain point it ceases to be about glycogen reserves and starts being about the natural limits of bone and muscular tissue and tendons. And if Kryptonians have super-muscles and super-tendons and super-bones they'd still have them without the sunlight.

It's a convenient clutch to give something OP a weakness. Nothing about it makes sense in practice because capeshit is moronic.

                >>It's a convenient clutch to give something OP a weakness.
It's not about giving him a weakness, that's what Kryptonite is for. It's a post-hoc attempt by clumsy writers using retcons to explain why he is so powerful on earth but Kryptonians on Krypton weren't, when the reality is that the original golden age and silver age writers didn't give a single shit about that.
                >I don't eat the sun, but I like the feeling it gives after a cold front finally moves out.
The body does use sunlight for making vitamin D though.

Food is the other half of that equation, pretty much food in general is to us what the sun is to Superman. So if we go without food for too long, what happens? We become severely weakened, and eventually die. The brain factors in because of the nervous system, which extends through our bodies. The same way "we" have an emotional subconscious, our brain has its own kind of subconscious, and it functions more efficiently doing the shit we don't actively think about (like refining energy) when we're not active.
I assume Superman just eats to blend in or for the taste. I mean damn, I don't eat the sun, but I like the feeling it gives after a cold front finally moves out.

While somewhat true, that's not really an answer and more of a consequence of lack of sleep. Sure, not eating will result in starvation, but we eat to gain energy, and starvation is merely a consequence of not gaining energy. So in a similar vein, something about sleep staves off insanity, but what exactly we are replenishing is not known that well, although it probably has something to do with accumulating waste products in your brain as

Not Superman-related, but there's a Superboy-Prime story where he's just arrived on Earth at night, and because of that he needs his armor to supply him with solar rays. The heroes rip his armor off and beat the shit out of him. They take too long and the sun rises, which invigorates him and he turns the tables.

        >Superboy-Prime
That's my mofo! If we want Superman dead, we need to hire this dude. He's a Cinemaphile poster sprung to life. Seriously though! I saw a comic once where he Superboy Prime was just going to alternate earths looking for a "perfect version" of Earth. And everytime he found something out of order, like Jason Todd becoming Batman after Bruce's death or Robin was race swapped, Prime would snatch them and fly them into space, and then chuck them back into the atmosphere so they incinerate upon re-entry.

His space armor is the gayest shit though. I hate it.

In the original comics he couldn't fly, only jump really high, hence the original slogan was: "Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound!". Leaping tall buildings isn't exactly a feat you would promote if you can fly. Flying was first introduced in 40s cartoons as it was far easier to animate than jumping.

    actually curious?
    it is entirely inconsistent.
pretty sure the modern reasoning is all about sun color.
so under a red sun (like on Krypton) he doesn't have powers, under a yellow sun he has powers.
sometimes under a blue sun he gets extra powerful, but this is inconsistent.
sometimes humans gain superman-like powers under a blue sun, but this is inconsistent
why can he keep his powers at night? he stores solar energy during the day.
in that case, why does red sun usually take his powers immediately? usually they say that it's "red sun energy" that either directly weakens him or flushes out his stored yellow sun energy.
pretty sure "energy" here sort of implying that there is some extra-physical "aether/phlogiston/stuffs" that accompanies the light from stars.
