His mind is completely divorced from the damage his body is incurring, which is show when he barely reacts to his eye being slashed apart, after which he immediately thrusts and directs his teammate to capitalize on the opening created by temporarily half-disarming his opponent.

All of the great cartoons from the 80s and 90s used Japanese studios for tons of their work.
