Your loss. I can imagine people dropping it later but can't imagine the type that passes on s1.

season 1 is terribly directed. it's extremely boring, unless you're engaged by the world building alone. or, I guess, if for some reason you're invested in the personal story of the fedora, a guy who's a creepy incel loser, the character is completely salvaged by thomas jane's charisma. if they'd cast some other guy in that role the season would've been on thin ice. especially with supporting cast like chrisjen avasarala, who is possibly the ugliest woman, with the ugliest voice, delivering one the ugliest performances that I've ever seen or heard in my entire life

the directing gets better as the show goes on. too bad everything else gets worse. right up to the final season where everything is trash.

on paper he is, jane's performance just contradicts it

          [...]
seasons 1 - 3 are fantastic, it constantly raises the stakes every episode and accomplish a great blend of politics, character drama and action. The show gets progessively better up until the end of season 3. After season 3 it gets much slower and meditative and I understand why people don't like it, but it still works for me. It's just different.

To say it's terribly directed or keeps getting worse just shows how awful your taste is.

I said it gets better, until the last season which had great scenes like the asian piss lady clawing a guy to death

You're really going to have to qualify this, show your work. Being lonely and falling for some girl he got hired to find without ever meeting her doesn't make him an incel.

Yeah season 4 and 5 were a slog to get through, especially because the best moments happen when the crew is all together. Season 6 felt like a return to form for me though. There just weren't enough episodes.

It's fun and is as close to hard sci-fi live action as you are going to find anywhere this side of Outland. Once Jane stops showing up, it's time to go... Maybe before. Nothing good lasts forever, the good bits get further and further apart after the protomolecule apocalypse. The last season isn't a season, the season before that doesn't really work except for Otis.

The problem is that it's just too bland.
It's like it never really goes all out in anything it's attempting to do.

The character drama is daytime tv tier.
The space stuff is just perfunctory.
    The politics are moron tier.
Most of the acting is again, daytime tv tier.
The overarching alien plot is so slow and generic that it's not even worth investing into.

I get that the show overall scratches a particular itch but literally every part of it is done with a bare minimum of effort.

I’ve never seen more of a waste of high budget production tv ever, imagine SG1 or something like that had this budget

The alien storyline is one of the least generic around and very interesting. As are the aliens themselves. And humanity's expansion into the solar system and the drama that causes is very compelling. As well as what finding alien life/usable technology would do to the various groups of humanity. There's nothing bland about it and it's FAR more realistic, mature, and interesting than things like star trek and star wars

        > There's nothing bland about it and it's FAR more realistic, mature, and interesting than things like star trek and star wars
you sound like a 15 year old who watched his first adult themed fantasy show and now thinks he’s more mature than the trekkies

Then a space hick literally blows up earth with help from mars, and earthgov is like "eh, whatever"

imagine 9/11 except it's a nuke and also it hits 60% of the cities in the US, and while of course we all know that t his would actually be a good thing now because cities are evil, setting that aside for a second the US' response wouldn't be 'turn the other cheek'. It would be to glass the entire middle east, israel probably included just to be sure.

nobody acts like a human being in the expanse. it's an autist with terrible theory of mind's puppet theater.

I've watched season 1 twice with the intention to keep going but I always stop early in season 2. I don't even do it consciously I just notice that I haven't cared to watch it for months. Maybe if Thomas Jane wasn't gone I would care more.
