it really wasn’t good, 4C’s direction just didn’t mesh with the show’s tone and direction, so Karakas saying it was meant to be a jumping point for a third season feels delusional. By and large it’s very frustrating how most of the direct anime partnerships [as] has done have been flops. None of the rick&morty anime shorts were any good and I fully expect the series to be more of the same.
christy himself hates the fricking thing. He said in an interview that he was super pumped up because the studio they commissioned did some inbetweens for akira or whatever, but they ended up throwing away like 2 quarters of his storyboards and rejected all the action scenes, because [as]'s gave them two nickels and a half eaten sandwich to make the anime
That's inevitable. All the main characters in smiling friends look like they were designed to be marketable plushies as is. It took rick and morty three seasons before they started pumping out merchandise, I'm assuming the same will happen with sf. You'll be seeing glep paintjobs on cars and pim plushies at six flags in approximately 2 years. Smiling Friends is an even more powerful entity than rick and morty ever was because it's A.) Inoffensive "turn ya brain off" comedy and B.) already has a huge pre-established fanbase, + an influx of new fans swarming in droves.
