>why scrap it?
Marketing, man. You already gave The Gimmick™ to the shillmons, so who are you going to give it to next gen? Fricking Gen 4 starters? LOL. Nah, you are going to come up with a new gimmick and give it to shillmons again.
They're literally the same game. Both versions are present on every cart, the only thing separating them is a line of code. They will sell you two carts at full price with the exact same content on each in their little double pack, and nintoddlers see no issue with this.
Black and White are beloved by a lot of old guard for that reason, or so I understand.
But a lot of issues that Mons suffers from are legit "you're no longer part of the target demographic for these games, you're complaining about non-issues." The arbitrary nature of versions is meaningless to some kid who just wants to trade Mons with their friend who has the other version, as it always has been since day 1... though, even those kids can understand that it's easier than ever before to trade Mons what with the global trading infrastructure that has been a staple of the series since gen4.
But seriously, these games aren't made for people old enough to understand and appreciate content value for price paid. Once you're old enough to recognize that versions are a marketing gimmick to sell the same game twice over, you might be legit too old for Mons and should pass it on to the next generation of kids.
The excuse they always use is "You're not supposed to buy both versions!'
And then they preorder the double pack and the themed version of the console they already have.
I never really fell into that trap because I recognized the versions were a scam at age 8. I'll always remember being so confused about why my copy of Sapphire was so different from my friend's copy of Emerald. Plus I only ever got to trade pokeymans a couple times and never felt the drive to finish the Pokedex. The only reason I might be coordinating different versions with my friend so we can trade between Scarlet and Violet is just because it kinda worked out that way, assuming I even buy the game in the first place.
It was very much a "the link cable actually does something" kind of move, and very much an early manifestation of Nintendo's love of gimmicks due to how the pre-wifi games would necessitate socializing with other people who play the game because no one would be stupid enough to no life it through both versions on top of owning the additional Gameboy to link up to and trade with themselves.
Summer camp might as well have been a Mons convention for childhood me. The management couldn't stamp out the pokeymans no matter how hard they tried, and they definitely tried.
The excuse they always use is "You're not supposed to buy both versions!'
And then they preorder the double pack and the themed version of the console they already have.
You do realize the social aspect of trading is a huge part of the experience, right?
It's minimal effort, sure, but if buying 2 copies means a friend plays with you, that tends to make things more enjoyable, and it's a perfectly viable way to play it. This especially makes sense for families or couples with more than one switch each.
It's also useful for the benefit of unlocking competitive play between 2 people who both like the game IRL
>They will sell you two carts at full price with the exact same content on each in their little double pack, and nintoddlers see no issue with this.
Something like that would have been pretty sweet back in the day when my younger sister and I both wanted to play Pokemon since they hate multiple save files at Game Freak.

it's meant for families anon, a normal person will only buy one thing

that's not really a case since their sales are always considered together
The excuse they always use is "You're not supposed to buy both versions!'

I mean it's not an excuse. That really is the mentality since day one. And even lesser known games have been doing and encouraging this like Dragon Quest Monsters, that weird MR spinoff, and the like.
I recently joked that the SV Rival looked like Ankh from Kamen Rider OOO. Now that they revealed this lady, I can't help but think they based her off OOO Tajador. Help.
They look like the sidekicks from Wakfu. Well, pokemon designs have been complete ass for many years. People like humanoids. Digimon understood it, Yugioh understood it.
It works in yugioh because they are cards/toys, in Digimon it works because they are essentially people with their own civilization and stuff, in Pokemon it's fricking weird because you go around essentially treating them like pets.
I think it turns weird when there are so many, I can understand having a couple humanoid looking beasts but the latest gens have had a ton of them for obvious marketing reasons. The original feeling of going on an adventure and catching bugs is forever lost.

There still aren't that many altogether, but I get what you mean.
Yeah, it's pretty obviously Hitoshi Ariga, the guy that did a shitload of the art for the Megaman Supplementary material and mangas. He's been with Game Freak since X and Y.

MMZ artist was Toru Nakayama, not Ariga
Yeah, you can tell the style of Nakayama art from a mile away.
>Those weaknesses >That speed >Sucker Punch available only through breeding >Found very late in B/W
Still, I love this Sentai MotW like you wouldn't believe.
Man, those are Pokemon? I feel like that really crosses a direct route of 'cool' I thought they had to kind of take the long path to, to keep the aesthetic of the series. The right one in particular is absurdly detailed for a Pokemon, even compared to legendarily.
Compare the detail in it's armor to that school of fish that just blends the details into one solid creature.
I'm not one of those guys who claims Pokemon is becoming Digimon every time they show a new box legendary. And I'm not saying these are bad designs. But these really stretch the design language of the series to new extents.
How do they look in-game? I notice a lot of the game models from the new game really don't capture the look of the 2D designs.
I've been avoiding pokemon for a while, but these two designs, mostly Armarouge, have brought me back into the fold. But what it's done more is make me want to play Mega Man.
Yes, Japanese media tends to reference and draw inspiration from other Japanese media, this shit isn't new.
Look I just wanted an excuse to post Kaijumons okay?
I know moron, that's why I'm calling you out.
That's pretty fricking cool
>Tyranitar never received a Giga form
GF is moronic. Also I'm not wrong in seeing the Ultraman influence on GigaMachamp right?
Not much point being annoyed by it when it's a gimmick that existed for exactly one game.
Getting really tired of the "new game, new gimmick" system. They had a great thing going with Megas, why scrap it?
>why scrap it?

Yeah I liked those and they were a decent enough platform to add more to, to make even old stuff more interesting.
More like the inbetween of MMBN and MMZ designs
Isn't the inbetween of MMBN and MMZ MMZX?
Not really? Those are just MMZ designs made into henshin hero armor and made a little more colorful
No, that's Starforce.
Go post it on the fricking pokemon board then?
I'm amazed they are still allowed to sell two versions if the same game and get a free pass
They're literally the same game. Both versions are present on every cart, the only thing separating them is a line of code. They will sell you two carts at full price with the exact same content on each in their little double pack, and nintoddlers see no issue with this.
Don't look at me, I dropped this shit on Gen 6.
Would it be more acceptable if there were more substantial differences between the versions like with the Battle Network games?

I swear this must be an underage thing.

You don't frick your pets, anon.
love those designs but they don't fit pokemon
looks like megaman zero art

Ariga is the guy who did the Rockman Giga/Megamix manga and the key art for Rockman & Forte.
Yeah, you can tell the style of Nakayama art from a mile away.
No they are not.
Stop dragging your shit here
Posting best Poke/m/on
Pokemon has had Toku designs for a long time.

those look like anime magical knights though

They turn into motorbikes and shit so the player can ride on them.
POKEMON BATTLES ON MOTORCYCLES
We need a bulky mecha pokemon, like a super sentai mecha.
New direct!
Farming!
>all these dimwits complaining about 1 game coming in 2 flavours
You literally do not have to nor are expected to purchase both. Fricking Hell /m/ I expect this shit from Cinemaphile not here
I mean we already got samegayging.
Frick off!
I hate most modern pokemon designs but what you just said is beyond moronic
>basically covered every animal
you're insane
I've been avoiding pokemon for a while, but these two designs, mostly Armarouge, have brought me back into the fold. But what it's done more is make me want to play Mega Man.
>But what it's done more is make me want to play Mega Man
Same, been a while since I played the handheld games
They're less like Sentai heroes and more like Reploid rejects
Pokemon does nothing but rip off digimon, Yo-Kai Watch and Megaman in recent years
They haven't made an original design since Greninja
Pikachu sucks balls, just like Mewtwo.
Haha yup, Pikachu is trash. He is so fricking overrated. He can go get incinerated by Charizard.
Anyways, Pikachu stinks, but not Mewtwo. Pikachu is garbage.
