      >Founder of Studio Ghibli and director of many of Japan’s best known animated films, including Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. Miyazaki’s protagonists are usually young girls. Miyazaki reportedly once shouted “What’s wrong with falling in love with a 12-year-old girl? “(「一二歳の女の子と恋愛してどこが悪い」) at fellow director Mamoru Oshii when drunk.
      >Those girls are innocent plants for Miya-san. His mind is like a little girl who is standing beyond the mirror. I still don’t get it though. I guess it’s barely different from mine. I have no idea, because I have never been interested in an actual little girl, or child. But he has. When he got terribly drunk, he suddenly shouted “What’s wrong with falling in love with a 12-year-old girl?” That was obviously his true colours.

      >Nausicaä’s breasts are quite large, don’t you think? That’s not only so she’ll be able to breast feed her children, or for sleeping with the guy she likes. They’re when she embraces the old man and old ladies in the castle when they are dying. I think her bosom is something like that. That’s why it had to become big. When she held them to her chest, they could die peacefully. I thought her bosom needed to be as such.
      >I have five young female friends who are about the same age as Hiiragi-san (the 13-year-old voice actress of Chihiro from Spirited Away), and I spend every summer with them at my mountain cabin.

That's why you don't give the keys of the future to old men. They can't help but try to revive their past.

I rewatched the movie again. Visually it's great to watch, but I think it's really one of his more narratively weaker movies. There's some good elements but the Haku reveal in particular is very half baked.

How are you this dumb? It digs into a child’s mind. It explores how children are the only ones that can see spirits and ghosts, they can communicate with them and even go to their world. But as you get older, you can’t do that anymore. It’s one of the most well written kids movies ever.

Kohaku and the concept of river god is so cool. A river gives water and food, asking nothing in return. Then there is hydropower/steam, maintaining the Yubaba's bathing house.
