You're assuming he has new material. Few comedians have the natural improvisational output of a Robin Williams. Usually a comedian will spend a very long time writing jokes, testing them in front of small crowds, and adding the good ones to his act. It can take years to generate 30 minutes of good material. And that's assuming that he's even really working on it. A lazy and/or less-talented comedian will just keep the same act, and make sure to travel enough that the same crowd hasn't heard it too much.
Right. Few comedians are like Louis CK (love him or hate him) and making pretty much a new set every year. Many comedians develop a set and then pretty much repeat it again and again.
