Krusty has the full clown nose, whereas homers is partially painted.
Krusty has bags under his eyes, homer does not.
His five o'clock shadow is also differently shaped.
Which, again, is something the animators flub all the fricking time. Krusty IN WSMBptI has frames where he has Homer's fully round 5 o'clock shadow and no bags under his eyes.
Homer is in town hall when Krusty shows up from Reno in this shot.
One of the showrunners posted the script the last time this came up on Twitter, the script doesn't specify the crowd members beyond "it can't be any of the Simpsons" so they probably made a mistake with the models
Literally the entire episodes is red herrings, the only "real" clue is an idiom, angry eyes, and Burns pointing to the sundial SW. Which even then the crew inflated the number of characters with the initials W and S or M and S as yet more red herrings.
In 1995 I was 8. Had this come out when I had watched more mystery shows or read stories other than Sherlock Holmes I'd have dismissed the obvious prime suspects: Smithers, Skinner, Grampa Abe and Homer. But I'm almost certain I would not have guessed Maggie.
i was born in 98, my first watching of this episode played its conclusion back to back, it's not really a proper mystery if you think about it but oh well
I remember the speculation and "what if" shows on the side. Where X character couldn't have done it based simply on their firearm of choice or if Smithers did do it.
I’ve read a few of the old chat rooms at the time and I remember a lot of people arguing about Homer or Smithers. Only one person guessed correctly for Maggie in the contest they were holding but I don’t think they ever picked up their prize. I’m actually surprised not more people guessed they were introducing a bunch of red herrings and the real culprit was more of a joke than anything else
Yes. In the time between Burns getting shot and the next episode, I had a dream I was watching the next episode, and the culprit was a gorilla. He escaped from the zoo, attacked Burns, somehow got his gun, and it went off in the gorilla's hands, shooting Burns.
Yet we find out in Part 2 we find out Jasper was shot by Smithers. A completely unrelated shooting outside town hall at most three minutes earlier that no one fricking mentioned.
Well technically a baby couldn't have shot a man too, but it was the Simspons and I figured they could explain it.
Like the shot we hear when we see Marge was Smithers shooting Jasper
I thought they were gonna pull a gotcha on us all and have it be a super interesting seeming character that we'd never seen before and would never see again.
I was too young for the original airing but after watching a rerun as a kid without spoilers, I guessed Smithers too. Homer killing anyone just felt really out of character.
I remember a commercial at the time where they ask a random guy on the street, who says, "I think that punk Bart did it." Something about the way he called Bart a punk stayed with me all these years.
hommer get sentence
Smithers did it, cant and wont change my mind.
It's been so long, I don't remember who my first suspect was.
So why is Homar dressed as Krusty at the end of part 1? Was that a dropped plot point or a genuine error?
Probably either a red herring or a setup for a possible "Homer did it" ending
Animation error
No it wasn’t, they acknowledged it in the ‘Springfield’s most wanted” special right before part 2 aired
All you're saying is "it was noticed at least four months later".
are we sure that's not just krusty?
i was 11, i don't remember who i thought did it.
i'm sure i didn't get it right tho.
Homer never wore a center-head toupee when he was a Krusty Impersonator, but he did just paint his nose instead of wearing a rubber ball on it.

Homer was meant to secretly be Krusty. It's the most famous dropped plotpoint, try and keep up.
Not that anon, but it doesn't answer his question, smarmy pants.
Homer did it and got away with it

I thought Bart did it because of the Butterfinger commercials.
They took away our Butterfinger BBs, Bart! Make them pay!
I was 33. It was obvious Maggie did it ffs
I thought Smithers. Probably the first time in my life I ever fell for the red herring.

Grampa

I didn't thought anything, i just laughed at the funny jokes
Place your bets Cinemaphile
>Maggie 70/1
Goddamn, imagine the winnings
>Goddamn, imagine the winnings
Holy Soul
No Tito Fuente?
Being a real person I don't think anyone thought it would be him
Also there may be more to that list so he may have higher odds at least

That dream still weirds me out to this day.
I don't remember who I thought it was, but my sister guessed Maggie. She didn't bother to enter that contest though.
I guessed Marge. Because she was the only one who was never a suspect.
Couldn't have been. I remember at the end of the episode, we see Marge as she heard the gunshot.
Yet we find out in Part 2 we find out Jasper was shot by Smithers. A completely unrelated shooting outside town hall at most three minutes earlier that no one fricking mentioned.

was making it so Maggie did it the writers themselves driving themselves into a corner or the just being cheeky wankers
They obviously had it planned
You can see in the op pic, Burns' gun was missing in part 1
I thought they were gonna pull a gotcha on us all and have it be a super interesting seeming character that we'd never seen before and would never see again.
I've recently discovered that these two episodes are inspired by actual historical events
it blew my mind
Who Shot JR is not an actual Historical Event
>Who Shot JR is not an actual Historical Event
I mean this one

Simpsons did it Simpsons did it
