I doubt anyone but capeshitters and nintendies attend theaters anymore, but at least Elemental's box office numbers doubled since last weak.

Why do you people keep on with that meme? People are still going to the movies. It’s just a lot of them are shit that no one wants to see. People want solid pulpy entertainment. That’s it. That’s what sells. Mario was exactly that and that’s why it made a billion worldwide.

That's not what it says. It has a 52% drop-off compared to last Friday. Movies getting a spike on Fridays is normal, since it's the start of the weekend.

They're definitely going to fire Peter Sohn.
    >Directoral debut was The Good Dinosaur, Pixar's first flop
    >Follows it up with Elemental, Pixar's biggest flop to date
    He's done.

Peter Sohn also directed Lightyear which earned $226.4 million at the box office. By comparison, The 3DPD Mermaid has earned $477,118,356 so far.

Lightyear was directed by Angus MacLane, who was already fired a few weeks ago.

I think they actually like the fat asian guy and will keep him around, he seems nice though his work sucks. The kid from up was based on him and he was the brother rat in ratatouille. The angus guy seems like a douchebag from his twitter

The director of Lightyear was another guy who was literally already fired lol

I will never understand why Pixar execs thought giving director roles to an environmental artist was ever a good idea. That's like making set dresser the director of a live action film.

In case you forgot, there was a coup at Pixar. The people that were promoted were political allies (in the office politics sense).
Many people at Disney's various studios - WDAS, Pixar, Lucasfilms - were promoted out of their level of competence. They were all good at their old jobs. They just can't lead.

I though Peter's promotion came before that shit even happened considering the good dinosaur released in 2015

I wasn't speaking of Sohn specifically as a director, and I also don't think all the blame should be laid at the direction. The Good Dinosaur was itself an outlier at the time, since Pixar hadn't released multiple movies in one year. It is worth noting, however, that Sohn didn't get another director and story job since The Good Dinosaur until this movie. That's an 8 year dry spell.
I'm looking at the broader picture of how Pixar is selecting its projects. That's where the real issue is to me. The ones making those choices are the ones that pushed Lasseter out.

How did that coup even begin? A bunch of women claimed abuse towards white men then came in and gutted Pixar is all I remember. It was clearly planned.
What was their master plan, though? Wear Pixar’s skin? Pretend they can profit off the ____ but feelings formula forever? Those old guard guys were master film makers. You can’t just take over and expect the same product. They are debatably the worst of the major 3D studios now.

You don't have to believe me but I knew someone who worked at Pixar and Lasseter was just a difficult guy to work with according to him. It sounds like a lot of people disliked him and wanted him gone and the accusations were finally the perfect excuse they had to oust him.

      guy

It's funny if the industry cared about merit even slightly they probably wouldn't have given him another movie.

I need to know how deep his involvement into The Good Dinosaur went. I heard initially that he came in to do disaster clean up to rescue the film and just get it out of production and into theater, in which case he can't really be implicated for it being shitty since his job was just to turn out something shippable. But then I heard he scrapped everything and basically restarted production meaning he should in fact bear a lot more responsibility for it being a bad film.

      Which is it?

I would say the ads are bad at selling the movie...
But at the same time. I dont think the movie is "that much fun",
is fine, I like a lot of stuff in it, but a family wont have exiting moments

How do you sell the movie though? Racism and immigration woes will not get wide audiences excited

just sell it on "how this explosive girl and this crying guy can fall in love, when they are not polar opposites, but water and fire"
and the racism tones are just in the movie.

Is anyone here good at international box office analysis? I’d like to know where Pixar films normally do best overseas.
Also, why do you theorize those numbers are so abysmal? Is the story too American? Character designs not interesting enough? Political messages too pointed?

I think the trailers dont show why should be exited for this story. just show the characters doing some jokes and thats it. nothing to get exited about.

Both films have similar budgets and Elemental is at less than half of Flash which is already a catastrophe
      Nobody at Pixar is relieved
