So why is Pixar making another movie about a 13 year old girl and presumably puberty? I know it's money, but why.

She's going through millennial puberty, a process which involves anxiety and depression without any kind of sexual impulses whatsoever.

OK but isn't Meilin supposed to be a millennial?

Funnily enough there were "anons" getting really defensive about speculation that it was about Riley transitioning

Hollywood "creatives" can't think of anything else that is relatable or unique or special for little girls to do in their stories except menstruate.

Turning Red wasn't about menstruation it was about generational trauma.

The creators of Turning Red wouldn't know generational trauma if it seeped out of their veganas once a month.

It was made by an asian woman who was raised by immigrants. She knows inter-generational trauma.

Too bad she didn't know about character design.

This. Even screenshots of Turning Red are hard to look at because its character designs are that visually painful. Each time I see Meilin smiling, I'm reminded of that godawful CalArts beanmouth meme. Of all the unconventional art style to use for this movie, Pixar of all studios chose mouthbean? It doesn't help that Pixar gave those Turning Red characters teeth thicker than Lik-a-Stix.

To this day, I can't fathom why Pixar went with such a fugly art style instead of styles used in its other movies (e.g. Toy Story, Monsters, Inc. The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Up, Inside Out). Hell, even Klasky Csupo style would have unironically been a better choice than beanmouth.

That's really compelling and all, but that still doesn't make it an intergenerational trauma movie, especially when it was actually made by a team of hundreds of people, not one talentless asian woman who pitched a movie about a giant (literally) menstruation metaphor.

All the writers today all hate their parents, so they all can weigh on generational trauma.

Their parents are usually rich doctors or lawyers, and wanted their kids to be the same. She couldn't make it as either and decided to become a writer, and her parents did not approval, so she hates them and puts that "trauma" into her writing.

Which is why the writing sucks.

Disney Pixar has been captured by a particular type of women who want to tell stories they care about, and what they care about is themselves. I don't think that's controversial to say, and frankly, more power to them. Just don't count on my participation.

Why is Inside Out 2 still about Riley? She was only a plot device for the rest of the movie to work.
They could've chosen a new, more interesting character for the sequel but they didn't????
