I worked at WalMart and we had soooo many figures from Black Panther 2 that nobody wanted. Encanto was also impossible to sell. Eventually around Xmas we would put them on sale for like a buck and I saw people buy them up to resell them online in hopes of some profit

There's nothing wrong with working at Walmart when you're young. I'd prefer to have those posters than trust fund babies.

Do toys really sell in the current era? I figured every kid after millennials went full digital.

only neckbeards collect toys like this. absolutely zero chance of kids playing with these or giving half a shit about them

and neckbeards only collect stuff from franchises and properties that have nerd cred. even they know this is disposable trash that has no staying power or any value

I have a 7 year old daughter. Kids still love toys just like all of us did. They love electronics, too. But you can't "play" with a tablet like you can a doll or action figure.

Remember the same person who is deriding you for pointing out that no one wants the Star Wars toys will be the one bringing up in another thread that merchandising is how Star Wars makes money so it doesn't matter how the movies made progressively less money or that no one's interested in the series.

The one losing money in this situation is the store or wholesaler. Disney doesn't buy the toys that don't sell back, the one that takes a loss is the store. Disney already made it's merchandising money when it sold it's crap to the store.

I just find it fascinating how many people are involved in the production of such an obvious turd.
Everything from the marketing division, executives, CEO, regional managers of who the frick knows what, the storyboard artists, cast and crew, director, people who design the merch, people who take photos of the merch, probably thousands of assistants across the board... and everyone has to pretend the movie is going to be a hit in all their communication, correspondence and even small talk around the workplace.
And at the same time everyone knows it's going to flop and get flushed down the toilet and forgotten moments after being released.

    amazing

I'm 28 years old and the manager of a Walmart. I went from cleaning isles to manager in 8 years. All the fat hispanics twice my age have to answer to me. I am the chad of Walmart employees.

This stuff about woke toys is really a red herring. Zoomies DO NOT BUY TOYS. all toys end up in the trash pile. The entire model is already dead.

It is true that some toys sell better than others. The recent TMNT Mutant Mayhem stuff sold very well, Iron Man/Captain America/Thor stuff always sell well. Star Wars used to sell well when I first started at Walmart. Anime stuff sells well, but millennial adults are the ones buying that. But when I mean "well" I mean relatively speaking. I've been to the seminars about sales 20 years ago, even our best selling stuff last month (the TMNT Mutant Mayhem Pizza Truck) would have been considered a gigantic failure at the turn of the millennium.

Zoomie kids just care about youtube/tiktok, some of it crosses over with anime and digital-only video games. They really don't care about anything else.
