Something I'm trying to understand regarding Smurfs lore

Do Smurfs get their name later in life after their main Schick is figured out or did someone like Brainy have no choice but to become smart because when he came into existence Papa Smurfs immediately christened him Brainy?

tl;dr - do Smurfs get their name or "talent" first?

It's the same as ponies and their names. The answer is that nobody pumps Batman's tires.

I assume you meant to say "marks" as it's pretty rare for the names of the colorful height challenged horses to be an indicator of their main trait.

I meant names. It is more pronounced the further back you go.

...This isn't a link to the baby smurf torture comic, is it?

Perhaps they have "baby names" and then adopt "real names" when they're established?

Baby Smurf isn't going to be a baby forever, I assume they'll change his name when he gets a trait beyond pooping and crying.

      But what if he doesn't!?

IIRC he will be the next Papa Smurf

I highly doubt Papa Smurf was dropped off by the stork with the name Papa Smurf.

The real question is, what happens if two Smurfs are good at the same thing?
Would Painter kill another lover of art?

      Specialization.

      Impressionism or Cubist.

they would probably use a synonym of the word or a "cute nickname" variation like say Artist Smurf and Arty Smurf.

Better to smurf out than to fade away.

Chef and Greedy Smurf are very much a like that they fused character for TV series.

Yes, there's a episode from the CGI series where a Smurf wants to find his skill so everyone will stop calling him Justa

First time I'm hearing of the cgi series. Which the general consensus on the quality? How high or low in priority ought it be on my watchlist?

Animation is alright. The English voice acting is a little stilted in the first few episodes, but it gets a bit better as it goes on.

It has it up and down, but I absolutly hate new take on Gargamel. Its way too goofy.

The 3 smurf kids that got introduced later on were actually 3 normal smurfs who got de aged back into kids, and all of them got new names and skills.
The fourth smurf kid was another artificial smurf created by Gargamel and she got a fitting name after she got everyone half crazy because she was loud and annoying like an autistic manchild on a sugar rush.

Probably a style name, like a nickname or adult name in some wapanese cultures.

There was a Stinky Smurf / Nice-Smelling Smurf.
Names evolve with a smurf basicly.

Smurfs don't have names. Or rather, every Smurf's name is just "Smurf". They're called by their profession and/or noticeable character trait simply to avoid confusion. It's not a name, it's a title.

I'm guessing everyone is just "little Smurf" and when they're adolescent they decide what their schtick is going to be. Also, it can change later. Papa Smurf used to be Wise Smurf or whatever.

Brainy isn't smart, he's just a stickler for rules.
His trait in the original language is that he wears glasses, that's it.
