its Miyazaki's worst by far, probably one of the worst Ghibli movies overall
Of course it's fricking good lmao
Only plotgays and coomers hated it.
Plotgays have a point, but you shouldn't care about their opinions. Rather, they should read a book.
You'll probably like 2 or 3 Miyazaki movies better, but it's a contender.
best movie of the year
with those responses, I think we can see it's pure shit
Visuals - 10
Audio/music - 7
Plot - 2
The pacing and plot are all over the place. It's a generally interesting concept that's executed decently, but excessively bloated with meaningless filler or fantasy that borders on the nonsensical. It's such a "What the frick is going on, why is this happening now?" film for like 90% of the film with such terrible pacing I felt so bored for about half the film. One couple in the theatre even walked out half way through. But it looks pretty and main character loses any and all characteristics and personality because sad about dead mum wow so deep ;-;

It's good. Everything everyone doesn't like about it applies just as well to Miyazaki's other movies, but they're too scared to criticize those so they just go after the new one before they think there's a consensus.
You can move any of these one space or prove me wrong:
1. Porco Rosso
2. Princess Mononoke
3. The Wind Rises
4. Spirited Away
5. The Boy and the Heron
6. Nausicaa
7. Kiki
8. Castle of Cagliostro
9. Castle in the Sky
10. Totoro
11. Ponyo
I like them all.
NTA, although Totoro is good, it's very small-scale. It doesn't have the same level of breathtaking visuals as Spirited Away or Boy and the Heron, but it also doesn't hit as emotionally hard as Kiki. It's just kinda there and is as well-remembered as it is because women love buying the merch of the catbus.
I'd guess an obligation to take care of his wife's family after her death and the expectation that a married couple produce children? The movie takes place in the the 40's so who knows. It could also just be a thing that happened and not everything has to be a plot point.
Because that's how people used to do things. Especially when both sides of the family appeared to come from some means, the marriage was likely arranged.
I always thought the "Best Man" at a wedding historically meant "if something happens to me, you marry her instead" but it might be something dumb I thought as a kid and just never fact-checked.
In any case people married way more for business than for romance in Imperial Japan.
The plot point made me think of Hamlet in a lot of ways, I was half expecting the heron to be the ghost of the boys mom claiming that her sister was somehow responsible for her death. Not the way it went clearly, but the tropes of the resentful child and the usurper step parent, staples of fairy/folk tales, remain
Did we really need nearly an hour of intro stuff before they got around to the magic fantasy parts? Majority of that cold have been cut with no real loss to the film
For a guy that claims to not like war very much, Miyazaki sure does make an awful lot of movies that take place in 1940s, with a lot of pro Mitsubishi airplane scenery.
I had to see the dub because it was the only time I could get the train, so I really want to see it subbed before I fully try to form my opinion. I thought everyone did a good job, but Christian Bale's performance was fricking weird.
The production is top notch. But everything else just flows in and out with no lasting effect. The world is not realized at all. Never in the movie did a location get repeated to become familiar with it. It just kept bouncing from one place to another without any build up. Very
Sure but there is a lot of places that feel like actual places that should be of big interest but don't have any lasting effect. Lime the birthing room, himi's house, the parakeet village. It just doesn't feel like anything was well developed. Compare that to Spirited Away with the hotel and the spirit village and the witches house being linked through a train. Or mononoke's forest and iron forge. In the boy and heron places just come and go with no real substance.
Mahito running up and down the stairs at the start had me pogging, it looked so fluid. I was just glad to see beautiful hand drawn animation in the cinema.
>Skrillex side cut in imperial Japan
Miyazaki has lost his touch
That was normal then
>Miyazaki has lost his touch
He has for about 20 years
The wind rises is his best
Bait
is it good?
it's better than anything goro has made
with those responses, I think we can see it's pure shit
It has some fun character designs
its Miyazaki's worst by far, probably one of the worst Ghibli movies overall
>its Miyazaki's worst by far
yes
>probably one of the worst Ghibli movies overall
no
How can you say this when Earwig and the Angry Witch is right there? The longest PS2 cutscene ever made.
Of course it's fricking good lmao

Scratch the last sentence and you literally just described Spirited Away

It’s decent, definitely worth watching for the visuals. I feel like the first hour could easily be cut in half with no damage to the story at all.
It's better than The wind rises, but not as good as totoro or Kiki's
It's fantastic, one of the best things he's ever made. I don't think people will be able to appreciate it until after he's dead.
Yes it's very enjoyable, but it's like most of his shit in that it's completely nonsensical after a while, and it's atmosphere
Sometimes less is also less, like in your empty, meaningless critique that you thought was some kind of gnomic utterance.
>No response
Yeah that's what I thought
Better than secret world of arrietty

Opinion discarded

This. Any movie that doesn't have explosion or bright flashing colors is inherently less interesting
rosso
Woke shit
Where is Howls Moving Castle
>404 Howl's Moving Castle not found
List discarded
>Howl's Moving Castle missing.
This is bait.

Who should I meet up with to watch movies later Cinemaphile?
Code for this vid?
I believe it's from NITR-073.

Princess Mononoke was the last great Miyazaki film
I can't help but cringe when people praise Spirited Away to hell and back.
Why do you cringe when a better film gets more praise?
Samesies
it filters casuals so hard
Why did no one find it strange that the dude immediately married his wife's sister after the wife was killed?

Arriety is criminally underrated. We need more Ghibli movies that aren't directed by Miyazaki
Takahata was the best Ghibli director and he died years ago
Yoshifumi Kondō was the best.
He only made one movie
And it was Ghibli's best. Dude died with a 100% success rate.
What movie?
Whisper of the Heart
it's teen drama bullshit for weebs
Did we really need nearly an hour of intro stuff before they got around to the magic fantasy parts? Majority of that cold have been cut with no real loss to the film

He doesn't like how Japan lost the war. Not the war itself.
I wish there was more flashbacks/ptsd, the start of the film with the burning hospital was fantastic.
I saw it and outside of visuals thought it was meh. That being said I've been thinking about it quite a bit since so maybe it will grow on me.
I had to see the dub because it was the only time I could get the train, so I really want to see it subbed before I fully try to form my opinion. I thought everyone did a good job, but Christian Bale's performance was fricking weird.
Ghibli has exactly two(2) great movies: Princess Mononoke and Grave of the Fireflies
Nausicaa, Laputa and Totoro are good movies, the rest are legit slop
The production is top notch. But everything else just flows in and out with no lasting effect. The world is not realized at all. Never in the movie did a location get repeated to become familiar with it. It just kept bouncing from one place to another without any build up. Very
Wasn't that the whole point? The tower was falling apart, and everything within it was transitory.
