Seriously? SERIOUSLY!? Son of Godzilla got a Criterion release? This shittiest of of all Godzilla movies got the Criterion treatment.
What the frick were they thinking?

Triggered boomer overhere
Hmm? No... Elder Millennial. I had to sit through the old shitty 60s godzilla movies when I was young and son of godzilla was the worst. It is also very hated in the Godzilla community.
Maybe the zoomer fan community that only cares about power levels
>I love everything after 1984
Heisei was a major step down from Showa
homosexual zoomer over here.
This thread is bait but yes it did along with all the other Showa films, also Megalon or Raids Again is easily the worst Godzilla movie.
I swear to you man. If you could look into my eyes right now you would know that I an truly shocked how this got a criterion release. It's a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE movie. I like godzilla, really... I love everything after 1984 and the first movie.
I can't imagine what they were thinking. I swear on my fathers grave I am not "baiting"
>I like godzilla, really... I love everything after 1984 and the first movie.
mutually exclusive statements
You can skip basically everything between the second movie and restart watching 1984. It was just a childlike drug trip during that period.
Awful taste. Imagine skipping Mothra vs Godzilla, Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster, or Invasion of Astro-Monster. I'd tell people to skip 84 and Biollante before I'd tell them to skip those, that's the peak of the series outside 1954.
The ones in the 90s were better.
They were not. Heisei is the weakest of the three main eras.
Mothra vs Godzilla is the second best movie in the series
Either that or Ghidorah. Perfect balance of taking itself seriously while throwing in fun fantasy and sci-fi elements.
When I rewatched those in 1080p a decade ago I realized even the most tolerable ones were trash. I liked the seriousness of the ones in the 90s along with better FX. The original ones were campy, low quality, sometimes even insulting to the audiences intelligence and... even infantile. 84+ for me. Those ones in the 60s and 70s were a shameful stain on the Godzilla franchise that mocked and made fun of something that should be dark and taken seriously.
You have genuinely awful taste. Ishiro Honda was better than any of the directors who worked on the 90s entries.
>Those ones in the 60s were a shameful stain on the Godzilla franchise
Yeah those great movies made by the creators of Godzilla and filled with anti-war and pro-peace messages were trash, it was so much better when people decades later starting milking it to make money off a new generation of kids.
Sounds like you just watched the 90s movies as a child so you think everything else is shit.
>i'm a godzilla fan but i hate all the movies
>he can't comprehend basic English text
Yikes. Stripes!
>Those ones in the 60s and 70s were a shameful stain on the Godzilla franchise
Someone should beat you to death with a rake
I guess you liked the childish marketing of godzilla during that time. Figures why some people here would prefer playful funny godzilla kid movies over serious dark monster godzilla. I guess they really wanted you kids to buy those godzilla figures. Terrible. Here... have more cringe kiddy movie godzilla you like.
>Figures why some people here would prefer playful funny godzilla kid movies
Yeah crazy how some people would prefer movies made by the creators of Godzilla vs the ones made to sell toys to 90s kids.
Aren't most of the showa movies made to sell toys to 70's kids? They have a pretty family friendly feel to them.
Most of the Showa movies weren't even made in the 70s.
They really started pumping out Godzilla merch in the 80s and 90s, that's why they started making the movies again and why they got childish again after vs Biollante.
A lot of the 70s Godzilla is silly but 60s Godzilla feels like other sci fi at the time
It was a low quality/budget shitshow.
Jesus christ gidzilla was shit back then
The quality of Honda's movies are much higher than anything that came out later. You're moronic, go back to your CGI Hollywood blockbusters and leave the classic sci-fi alone.
You can't expect zoomers to watch anything from the 60's. They can barely handle the 90's
>make godzillla act like a idiot
>do goofy shit in a suit
Vs. Anything past mid 80s.
I'll take the newer g. Old ugly rubber suit g is laughably pathetic. Should have just kept it black and white and dark.
>make godzillla act like a idiot
They make Godzilla act like a hero who constantly saves the Earth. Versus 84 where they make him a literal moron that gets tricked into walking into a volcano.
I'll take the actual Godzilla movies by the guys who made the first film over the reboot only preferred by people who it introduced to the franchise as a kid.
>they make him a literal moron that gets tricked into walking into a volcano.
That shit was moronic
Even though he survived that volcano it was really stupid.
>Old ugly rubber suit
>CGI Godzilla > man in suit
Average zoomer """Godzilla fan"""
>using a gif of what is widely considered one of the best films in the series and one of the best 60s sci fi films
Yikes.
Wow. This kind of Gfan is really sad. Really gives a bad name to kaiju films in general.
Yeah it does make them look bad when someone says they're a fan but then starts talking about how he thinks the films are shit.
Thankfully most of us aren't that moronic, it's just OP.
It's a great movie and Hedorah is one of the better villains but you have to admit it looks goofy as frick.
That's not Hedorah, it's Astro-Monster.
Some with people who "love Godzilla" yet only watch the American ones
Nah, Raids Again is good. Vs Megalon is decent. Both are better than some of the others, including all the American ones.
megalon is KINO
Son of Godzilla might not even make my top 3 worst Showa era. You're just ass blasted it's not "serious" enough and doesn't have Ghidorah getting curbstomped for the tenth time. Son of Godzilla really had a different air to it, casual and laid back.
I will kill you, Megalon is amazing and it is shamefully he never got another movie.
First half of Hedorah is amazing but I will admit the second half makes for one of most boring fights Godzilla has ever had. Like a third of the movie is Godzilla silently jockeying Hedorah into position to get zapped by the military's superweapon.
I actually kind of like the story of All Monsters Attack and think the human plot is a bit charming. But the actual movie itself is like 40 minutes of new content. It didn't just use archive footage as a crutch, it's practically a recap movie. Which to be fair at least showed off the cool Ebirah scenes which were especially rare in the West for a long while.
Megalon is a kino monster
I never get why people shit on his movie. Most people agree he's a great monster. And I think Gigan had as great a showing as in his debut movie. So I really think it's just because people don't like Jet Jaguar.
It uses a bit of stock footage, like Ghidorah destruction is used for some Megalon scenes, so that sours people on it a bit. And then others think Jet Jaguar is too silly even though he's actually cool as hell.
>that picture
For fricks sakes what a terrible time period for godzilla.
Vs Megalon featured two new characters, an ally and a villain, and the return of Gigan and then newish monster who had only one previous appearance in his debut movie. Imagine getting a Godzilla so fresh nowadays.
>and the return of Gigan and then newish monster
*and the return of Gigan who was then a newish monster
Vs Megalon was a fun movie.
*Kino time period.
I'm almost convinced my third gf broke up with me because we watched this fricking movie. How could i even expect this the first one was actually kino
>watching classic Godzilla with your gf
Good God, anon
They were thinking that even the shittiest of Godzilla films would probably sell more than some pretentious Euro arthouse trash from a no-name director. Genre films are what keep Criterion going.
Son of Godzilla isn't bad at all. All Monsters Attrack is the "shittiest of all" one that uses a ton of stock footage. SoG is based and has the aweseome villain Kumonga.
All monsters attack was fine. Any with the son in the 60s/70s were shit.
You clearly don't know what you're talking about, because All Monster's Attack is the movie where the son is in it the most.
At least it had lots of monsters.
It has "lots of monsters" because it's almost entirely made of footage from other movies.
Still better watching the boy frick around for even two minutes with godzillas son.
>Still better watching the boy frick around for even two minutes with godzillas son.
That's All Monster's Attack you frickin tard. That's not Son of Godzilla. Son is the one where Godzilla fights the giant spider.
>this movie was fine. but it was shit
Was gonna say he's confusing AMA with DAM but that one also has Minilla in it.
All Monsters Attack is fricking kino and I will stab any of you homosexuals that say otherwise. Late 60s Kawasaki was a perfect setting and Im glad Honda made this film as a time capsule for such a unique place and era.
Gonna be real I haven't watched it, just know it's the stock footage one. I'll check it out eventually.
Also just noticed I rushed my reply 4 hours ago and made a ton of typos.
Son of Godzilla is good because my son likes the baby dinosaur
>shittiest of of all Godzilla movies
That's Hedorah. Slow, boring preachy hippy bullshit with the dullest end fight of any Godzilla movie.
Only plebs hate Hedorah
So who’s the fine piece of ass Godzilla piped to make a son?
Xe inseminated xeir own eggs.
if you think Son of Godzilla is the "shittiest" you plainly don't know your subject
it's easily one of the best
At least 50% of the hate for SoG is people confusing it with AMA.
Yeah I'd put it in the upper half of the series. Human stuff is a little meh but visually it looks nice and the monster stuff is very good.
Son of Godzilla's one of the best Showa movies.
Criterion has been a woke joke for years now
Every single movie with baby godzilla is shit. Equally.
It's funny as frick
MST3K created an entire subset of cancer fandom autists.
All Showa G movies are perfect or near perfect. All Monsters Attack is the worst but it's still better than 99.999% of movies.
all the showa era got released in a box set you stupid frick, now get out
Criterion is definitely garbage reselling the same shit over and over. I guarantee you this has like two different extras from the one available in the Godzilla set they already released so now they resell it on its own.
criterion is shit now
the streaming channel had fricking minority shitport on it
wtf happened
CGI Godzilla > man in suit. Every fricking time.
>the Criterion treatment
Showa > Millennium > Heisei
Shush!!! They'll kill you for being right!
>those digits
It's settled
I like the later good looking guy in a rubber suit vs the drugged up flimsy 60s and 70s shit suits. Robot was fine too if not just a little stiff.
The Heisei suits sucked because they were too heavy, that's why all the battles involve Godzilla just standing in place and shooting beams. They went back to making the suits lighter again in Millennium and that's why the battles are more Showa-esque.
>too heavy, that's why all the battles involve Godzilla just standing in place and shooting beams
Beamlock was so shit. Can't believe they made giant monster fights boring
>watching godzilla on criterion blu-rays
>not watching them on grimy ass DVDs you painstakingly collected in the mid-late 2000s from pawn shops and e-bay
NGMI
>had to watch them on rabbit ear TV or vhs's
Holy hell I couldn't sit through 60s-70s godzilla again if it wasn't in 1080p. At least when I did back a decade ago being drunk got me through it.
Ngl at least 3 of my collection are just shit I stole from netflix way back when
>Netflix
Ah, you didn't have a computer/access to USENET/Gnutella back then?
>Ah, you didn't have a computer/access to USENET/Gnutella back then?
I was born in 2000
Criterion doesn't matter anymore. Remember Godzilla Vs. Rodney Dangerfield?
It’s because they released a collection with all the showa ones. As other anons said, this isn’t even the worst.
>not godzilla's revenge
Tell me you're a casual without telling me that you're a casual
Everything during that time was shit.
Casual confirmed
>you have to like absolutely all content they shit out to be a real fan.
OK buddy. Lol kids...
If you only like the recent movies and pretend the old ones are shit then you're casual
>pretend
No, I am stating after the first two the whole lot of them until 1984 was shit. Get some reading comprehension. We're some more shit than some? Oh yes.
Casual moron
>he can refute but only namecall
Figures. Kids...
Refute what? All you said was that you didn't like some movies
Fricking moron
>he keeps going
Oh boy. We gotta hot one.
Kek you can't even respond because you realized what you said was moronic
Grow some braincells and stop posting
All Monsters Attack is the international title for Godzilla's Revenge
>Fun island adventure with a cute girl and baby Minilla
>Bad
Pal, you haven't seen bad till you've seen Godzilla's Revenge/All Monsters Attack. Everything else is at least enjoyable.
The best compliment I ever got was after me and this gal watched some top-tier Godzilla flick together. After the movie, she looked me dead in the eyes from under me, right when I was about to stick it in her, and let out this shaky breath like, "F-ffffrick, your eyes are just like hisss..." I've never been so pumped in my life. Since then, she treats me like I'm some kind of human-sized Godzilla. She just became the most sexual girl I know. It's like I've flipped a switch in her that night. She's all handsy, like I'm her big beast or something, calling me her big ol' "King of Monsters" and stuff. Whenever we watch Godzilla, she jsut gets this look in her eyes and smirks at me. b***h literally envisions me as Godzilla while in deep-fricking coitus, for God's sake.
Bros... I adore my adorable friend. We're all gonna make it. Each and every one of us. ;_;
Just get Cinemaphile lke me tho first
Why do they let these trash comic book artists make the covers?
Trash covers for trash movies. It's a trend.
Godzilla 2000 is the best one by far. Not joking.
