You're absolutely right.
I'm just confused by anon's comment when they said, "Nintendo treats Mario's backstory the same as Shadow's where they aren't allowed to mention it" when we just had a movie where the first 15 minutes was all about him being a plumber in Brooklyn.

>Mario has nothing to work with in the games, too!
You're absolutely right.
The movie proves that wrong. Nintendo are buttholes, but they ARE flexible when it comes to letting other people use their property and reference lore that contradicts their current stuff so long as it's disconnected to the games. Sega meanwhile is so rigid and uncompromising that it's impossible to do ANYTHING in any continuity now so long as they're aware of it. It took giving Paramount complete creative control for the movies to be allowed to do anything with Sonic or the others that wasn't rehashing the same cardboard caricatures over and over again.
>Shadow's backstory
lol Shadow doesn't even have a backstory anymore. Everything people like about the Sonic characters are from various media like shows/games/ect. and they're all different continuities. The sonic property basically fricked itself over since many fan favorite plotlines and characters aren't even canon to begin with if there even is such a thing as canon. Which ironically makes it the perfect playground for autists to write their fanfiction
>second most popular character >is a pain in the ass to write so much that it's best to not use him
It's like getting a really hot girlfriend but you can't touch her.
I wonder if that's why none of the IDW OCs have any history to their characters >Whisper is just a person who was in Forces, no backstory or life from before then >Lanolin is just a random person who was in issue 1, no backstory or life from before then >Tangle is just a random person who fangirls Sonic and Blaze, no backstory, no place she grew up, no parents in sight, no explanation why she has powers, she just exists >Starline is the same as these but gay for Eggman >Surge and Kit literally have their past memories erased and aren't interested in what they are
It's like they're not allowed to come up with new lore. No princesses, no ancient monstrosities, no people born with duties. So their only characters now are just aimless complete randos wandering about bumping into eachother like stray particles
>So their only characters now are just aimless complete randos wandering about bumping into eachother like stray particles
In fairness that's Sonic. Or Tails. Or Rouge. Or Amy. Or Big. Or the Chaotix. Or Eggman. Strictly speaking about the games here, of course. Who's sonic? He's a fast dude who saves critters. Tails? Flying fox who saves critters. Eggman? Bubbles critters. Amy? Fan of Sonic who came from who the frick knows where and who are her parents.
Knuckles, Shadow and Omega having A backstory are the outliers, not the norm.
Tails does have backstory tho, lonely kid that was shunned by others because he had two tails until he met Sonic and became the closest thing he has to a family. That's why Nine is the best variant, they actually made a simple deviation to the established backstory.
>lonely kid that was shunned by others
That was actually fabrication. He wasn't actually picked on by many people, just a couple of bullies that picked on him for his tails. The idea he was this massive outcast is headcanon, sega never stated this being the cast.
Anonymous
It's headcanon territory because Sega was never that clear with the details and you can actually get creative because of this. Like sure we have seen depictions of Tails being bullied by other kids but then you start asking questions and is not a hard answer to come to. If it was just something like schoolyard bullying then where are his parents? Doesn't seem like he has any the moment they decided to follow the local hero into a live of adventure. So if he doesn't have parents, does that mean the other kids were also bullying the local orphan? Do the other kids even had parents, why do none of them take care of the local orphan? There was an orphanage or are foxes just expected to live innawoods compared to the other animal people? Not gonna lie, this is pretty fun to ponder and makes the imagination run wild.
When was this backstory given? The original manual just said he though Sonic was cool. https://manuals.sega.com/genesismini/pdf/SONIC_THE_HEDGEHOG2.pdf
Also at no point is it implied in this someone bullied him.
The japanese manual supposedly has it, can't confirm because I can't into moonrunes.
https://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2_(16-bit)/Manuals >"Miles Prower" is a little fox. >Miles has two tails. That's why the animals on the island call him "Tails." >Because of his two tails, he was often bullied. But after seeing Sonic come to the island, Miles changed. He has made up his mind. >"I wanna be cool too!" >It was then that Miles started chasing after Sonic all day.
Which is weird because Tails' backstory is something made by Sega of America, it's the whole reason why we know him as Tails instead of Miles like they originally wanted.

>where are his parents?
In some continuities his parents are normal-ass foxes, making Tails' situation similar to Leela from Futurama

Yeah, Tails could be a mutant or some shit because being a genius is also not normal.
>The japanese manual supposedly has it, can't confirm because I can't into moonrunes.
Doesn't seem to, this is the only translation I can find and it's nearly identical except for the prologue that gives a backstory the american book skipped https://sonic.fandom.com/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2/Manuals
>"Miles Prower" was the fox's name. Miles actually had two tails, which is why the animals on the island all called him "Tails". They teased him a lot because of those two tails. But when he saw Sonic come to the island, he changed.
Seems like it's similar, well the intention of not being well treated thanks to his two tails remains. And if you think a about, it's something that's been poping off here and there, AoStH had it to some degree, X had it because Sonic Adventure also had their own version in a flashback, the Movie allued to it, and now origins and Prime have it too. Don't know if Archie and Fleetway had their own take on it too. It's not something that came outta nowhere, it sorta has been there but not at the forefront.
Btw, for those interested, here's Tails' first backstory, the one that was used to convince Sonic Team to call him Tails.

I mean Sonic X actually showed Tails having been bullied by other kids before meeting Sonic though it contradicts the manual. Then Origins sorta made it canon.
Those characters inherently have history because of their history in the games. Problem is it's getting harder to even reference that history. We don't want people remembering Amy was Sonic obsessed to the point of it dictating her decision making. We don't want people thinking too hard about Rouge being a double agent for an organization that directly references human civilization in the setting. We don't want people to think too hard about Blaze being from both a different dimension but also Silver's future. Hell we don't want people thinking about Silver's future at all.

Maybe they shouldn't have made a stupid mess with Blaze there to begin with.

No reason to find contradictions between two sources. Forces and it's DLC didn't even seem too be on the same page. Infinite is a self aware projection of the Phantom Ruby in the main game. He doesn't even "die", Eggman just ends the protection and decides to use the Ruby himself. But the Shadow DLC tries to say it's literally a dude wearing a mask who existed even before he encountered the Phantom Ruby.
I guess you can fill in the blanks with fanon and make it make sense (you can do the same with Blaze too), but it really gives the vibe that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

They are just dumb. Any other company would have just moved silver/blaze into being from another city, buried 06, and kept on going. The one good thing they did of keeping the world ambiguous allows this.
I'd imagine they have much more freedom with oc's they just have no reason to develop filler characters past when they don't have that much of a role to care about.
Gonna go out on a limb and say Sega is probably rightfully weary of letting any author give a detailed backstory to an OC, seeing how badly that went with Archie. We do not need more Knuckles Tribe OC's.
The only thing we know about Mimic is that he's 30+ years old and betrayed the OG Diamond Cutters because...reasons. it's never elaborated as to what his personal history was or what would motivate him to suddenly side with Eggman after years/decades of good will.

That literally explains nothing. Going by that logic, every other character should have sold out to Eggman long ago.

It explains everything. Eggman was on the track to win, which we know was true due to Forces. Mimic cares about himself over anyone else, so he sold out his team to save himself. The other characters didn’t because they’re not selfish and willing to risk themselves. Most basic motivation but you’re acting like its a mystery.
They handled him gracefully given their limitations >gets trolled by a youtube poop and decides to kill Sonic because of it
He's like a parody of what the character was at the moment, and really, what he is right now in any media outside of Prime. Boom was fricking visionary.
Shadow's an absolute loser in IDW, like embarrassingly so.

Everyone's kind of a loser in IDW if they aren't Sonic. And sometimes, this includes Sonic. The only characters who haven't taken a major beating are Blaze and Cream and that just cause they barely get to do anything.
>Because everything already was connected fromSonic 1 to Sonic Rush
The point is more about Sega currently doing small re-writes to the plots of the classic games (for Origins) and even trying to incorporate games like SMS Sonic 1 as a separate adventure in the same timeline as the Genesis version. At some point the whole endeavor just becomes unnecessary.
In Prime's case, it doesn't need to be directly connected to the games. It can just be a separate self-contained show that's heavily inspired by them. Flynn pointing out that it happens sometime after Advance 3, but that it also doesn't matter much since it nullifies itself again just makes the whole effort come off as pointless.
Oh I know. I was just trying to explain the weird mindset of Sega leading to all of this mess.

>Alan Denton
Ah so it it is a skill+talent issue. 😉
>not allowed to have their backstory referenced or contracted
Good gravy, Sega's autism
SKILL ISSUE. However if I was SEGA I would cancel them, I would not even allow them to release Shadow's script cause they're just THAT BAD.
SEGA is checking for who can release gold, who can match their super special requirements, the problem however is that SEGA approves anyone and anything now matter how many F grades they got.
Because the show is trying to deconstruct the characters, but falls into that trap of just making them le heckin' subversions of what you expect.
Knuckles is obsessed with a magical gemstone, and point out that he's rarely ever actually nearby, so le subversion is that pirate Knuckles trying to pursue it. But that basically just makes him Rouge.
Amy is a devoted to Sonic, fierce, and will follow him to the ends of the Earth, so le heckin subversion is that she's a robotic stalker that wants to take him down. But that basically turns her into Metal Sonic.
Rouge barely has anything to do because she's a side-character to Shadow, so her being treated with the main cast is jarring since she barely has any dynamic with Sonic. This makes her counterparts non-characters outside of "generic leader" (because subversion).
So that leaves Tails.
Now Sega has no idea what to do with Tails. They keep trying to make him independent of Sonic and becoming his own person while still remaining his own person. He's gone from being the de facto sidekick to just another side character.
So where does that leave le subversion?
Why, swapping the direction of his character, as someone already his own person who becomes obsessed wth Sonic as time goes on.
>No Budget >3D >Jungle and Pirate World are boring or filler >Doesn't fully take advantage of alternate characters
Fan Projects and The Archie Comics were more creative with this premise. At the very least the locations and alternates were interesting. Eggyolk is only one that feels plot relevant and had the best fights.
You did. it was called Sonic OVA and it barely went pass the pilot movie.
>why is it always some kind of bullshit
because nobody in the west take Sonic's level of autism seriously, so you need some kinda of gimmick, twist or subversive tone to get normal people to stomach the blue fricker for more than 3 minutes
DBZ homosexualry was never amazing and praisable. Sonic was never good because it's not original. I wouldn't even be apart of this shithole had the first Genesis games not had fantastic gameplay that was never done anywhere in gaming. Ever since then, ever since they stop making the gameplay like that in 3D and in 2D, Sonic was fricking pointless.
When I heard of Prime, I thought it would be different Sonic universes like SatAM,
Underground, Boom, X, etc all meeting each other with different aniimation styles.
>people like multiverse stories because it’s an easy way of combining multiple continuities into one story >Sonic has a long history of alternate takes on the character that would make great alternate universes >the show isn’t allowed to use any of the old shows and instead has to make due with generic bullshit like “jungle world” or “pirate world”
Sega fricked up the entire premise for the show due to their autism. Even The Flash movie utilized mulitiverses better than this show.
Sega technically owns The Freedom Fighters and AOSTH, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to rerelease Spinball or Mean Bean Machine. They just refuse to use any of those characters ever again for some reason.
They owning shit means jack shit if they literally have zero understandance of how those shows worked without their creators.
I can't comprehend people on this board that thinks companies are your friends and "get" your love for this IP's non canon takes to the point they can faithfully continue them. FFS, they can't even faithfully continue THEIR own canon. Why do people expect SEGA to do anything right?
Depends if it's made in-house or licensed, and if licensed, what the terms were. Basically if Saga fully funded creation of the media, it owns everything, if not, it gets complicated.
All I’m saying is we could have avoided Urkel Saves Christmas if Jaleel White had been hired to voice three characters in the Sonic Underground universe in Sonic Prime.
A shatterverse isn't an a traditional alternate universe/dimension.
It's just the original dimension splintered into themed toy variants.
Blaz would only exist if she was in the dimension when it shattered.
>people like multiverse stories because it’s an easy way of combining multiple continuities into one story >Sonic has a long history of alternate takes on the character that would make great alternate universes >the show isn’t allowed to use any of the old shows and instead has to make due with generic bullshit like “jungle world” or “pirate world”
Sega fricked up the entire premise for the show due to their autism. Even The Flash movie utilized mulitiverses better than this show.
Honestly it makes sense why they didn’t go that route when you consider for one, those beloved takes are surrounded by legal barbed wire and secondly, not many people know of their existence, SEGA included. The DiC shows never got a japanese dub, nor did any comics get translated prior to IDW. Izuka probably has no clue who the hell a “Sally Acorn” is.
You don’t even have to use Satam. If that was such a big legal problem why not include Sonic X, OVA, or the classic universe? That would be way better than “Sonic’s friends but wearing different hats”. They absolutely squandered this concept.
>They just refuse to use any of those characters ever again for some reason.
The Freedom Fighters and the overall tone of SatAM don't conform to Sega's overall vision for Sonic today.
That's why the IDW comics are so watered down, the Restoration and the Diamond Cutters are the same idea but stripped down of the specifics that made Knothole and the Freedom Fighters stand out, but IDW's writing staff are Archie allumni who just have to have what they perceive as the real Sonic.
That’s clearly not true. They wouldn’t constantly steal concepts from AOSTH or SATAM if it were. New Yolk City is already basically SATAM except Robotnik is five people. Orbot and Cubot are basically just Scratch and Grounder.
I’d rather have the characters be slightly changed than have them do nothing.
>Orbot and Cubot are basically just Scratch and Grounder.
Incompetent villain comedy duos are literally a go-to concept for people trying to flesh out the villain perspective.
>Haven’t seen the rest of the show >Skip to final scenes of final episode just because >Tangle and Whisper kiss moment
God dammit. Is it a written rule that a modern cartoon has to end with a lesbian kiss or something?
It only has 7 episodes, according to https://www.netflix.com/title/81294811. The last episode is just 25 minutes long too, so it's not that it's a double episode or anything. I thought they said the show would have 24 episodes in total.
>No, it was just released today.
Yeah and it's not what he's describing. So he's ether bullshitting or he's got a complete script including seasons we don't have yet.
What do you mean he's bullshitting? The ending had Sonic returned back in time to the moment right before he shattered the world. Then he changed the outcome and did not shatter the universe after all. It's basically like in Sonic'06; the ending retcons all the previous events out of existence.
The actual ending implies the shatterverse worlds still persist. Which means this isn't a 06 situation at all. So I feel like him telling everyone none of it matters is misleading.
The real question is does this mean Sonic's adventures in the shatterverse worlds were retconned out of existence, because that'd undo all the good he did, and those worlds don't have Sonics of their own.

That makes sense from the perspective of the worlds literally coming into existence when the prism was shattered.

>returned back in time
No he didn't. Universe was re-created from the latest snapshot. You don't "travel back in time" when you restore your drive backup, do you? >Then he changed the outcome and did not shatter the universe after all
No, he didn't. You claim that "he prevented shattering from happening in the first place" is nonsense. The event literally happened twice: the first time he shattered it, the second time he didn't. He didn't re-do the first time, he didn't travel back the the first time. He shattered the prism, Nine glued it together, Sonic decided to not shatter it the second time.
I'm not sure if there's now two paradox prisms and green chaos emeralds, or they were teleported there. I guess teleported, considering original disappeared. Also I'm not sure what would happen to their shatter-variants when Green Hill character dies? The thing with "Alphas" showed that Paradox Prism can make unlimited clones, but if original dies, all clones disappear. Are shatter-variants now considered as clones?
Sonic really should've had one autist write a lore bible in the Genesis era before all the cartoons and comics and shit. SEGA can't get any consistency between projects because there is no canon to begin with. Nobody knows if their project is set on Mobius or Earth or whether they're supposed to have humans or generic animal people because neither Mobius or Earth are canon for some moronic fricking reason. The moon is blown up but it's still there. Shadow is an android, but nobody's allowed to touch that or even clear up any of the moronic mess they made with his game.
SA2 originally implies SA2 Shadow might have been a replica of the original flashback shadow since it was never reported whether Shadows capsule was found or not.
Due to sloppy writing this is only partially implied and was only ever outright stated in sonic X/SA2 guide books
A handful of the random contradictory endings in Shadow's game teased Shadow with some maybe you're one of a bunch of fricking generic androids Egmman made after SA2 Shadow became a shooting star. I can't remember if the true ending made it clear enough that our current Shadow is the SA2 Shadow or not. It was a fricking mess.
Made it pretty clear that it was the real Shadow by him being able to go Super, get mind-raped by Black Doom, etc...
Maybe play the games instead of talking shit?
>it was implied
It was never implied.
Again, stop being a Dunning Kruger exhibit. You're actively hurting the validity of people who shit on Sega's inconsistency.
>Shadow is an android, but nobody's allowed to touch that or even clear up any of the moronic mess they made with his game.
Anon, that was cleared up in that very game. He's not actually an android. He's the original. Eggman found his body and nursed him back to health. It's a dialogue in the final fight with Devil Doom. But you have to frick around for a long ass time to ever hear it. I only did because I had infinite rings to play around with Super Shadow.
That's good to hear. I could never make myself suffer through that game long enough to get that answer. Those stupid space colony levels with the fricked up platforming pissed me off.
They do actually have this now, they hired people a while back, but presumably because of Covid delaying things Prime was in development before they codified it.
Tailstube mostly exists to codify the lore and does a pretty good job of it. The explanation is that the Mobians live on the Islands primarily and humans live on the continents, which is fairly consistent with the history thus far.
Matches with most games, except Forces... But then IDW treats Forces as it's setting Bible so what might have originally been Sonic incidentally avoiding human contact in one game now defines the comics.
It's the fact that everything HAS to be canon and HAS to all tie together that's hurting it the most. Can't just have the classic games, or the dreamcast ones, or whatever being their own little thing, they all NEED to be part of some moronic hodge-podge world of wacky pop art worlds and hyper realistic shit that doesn't know what it wants to be.
Boom was meant to outright replace the original continuity if it fid well enough - SoJ sabotaged it intentionally out of spite for the West and to prevent that from happening. The Ancients in the games were meant to be the OG cast, but they never got the chance to expand on that and the show essentially ignores the Boom games stuff due to Sega fricking everything up.
Same. I LIKE Boom and I'm sure the games would have been fun if they weren't maliciously fricked over, but I wouldn't want it becoming THE game continuity.

Honestly I'm behind that just because Ian relies WAY too heavily on references in lieu of writing actual dialogue. It's obnoxious.
Amy mentions going on a trip around the world with her and Cream in the ending of the game. Sonic also has an idle quote talking about Tangle in-game.
What was the deal with these guys anyway? why does one world have five Eggmen and the others have none?
The Chaos Council are heavily implied, albeit not explicitly stated to be facets of Eggman's personality that took on individual lives of their own in the New Yolk shatterverse. No idea why they're the only ones in all the shatterverses though.
Yes. Just do what TMNT does and make them all legit and stand alone. Then fans can throw autism fits when it isn't their version getting the light or they like the new hip variation.
Actually, come to think of it, do Megaman fans do that kind of shit? I know during the BN days there was a bit of 'not muh megaman classic' autism, but other than that I've never heard anything else.

Finished it. Like all the other seasons, they fill the middle with endless fighting that gets boring after a while, but the start and end are strong.
Still among the best recent Sonic media alongside the movies, which isn't a high bar, but way better than the games and IDW. While they stretch things out, I enjoyed the characters and conflict, felt like proper things for the Sonic crew and I wasn't annoyed at anyone. Don't think we needed a cliffhanger ending, but considering this is one of the most viewed Netflix shows of last year, their chances of another season are probably high.
That said, I'd prefer a brand-new series in the same style, with other Sonic characters to use and a new setting. Maybe one outside of multiverses so they don't blow their budget in multiple worlds.
No way episode 7 is the ending right? It's extremely underwhelming and the possible cliffhanger doesn't help. I wanted to see at least the New Yolk characters settling into their world and Sonic spending some time with the original characters after everything, but no he only gets to show up with some chili dogs and ooooo big scary shadow cut to credits. It feels really rushed.
Apparently the showrunner says they have no further plans to make more Prime yet, but given its popularity on Netflix metrics, I expect them to make another Sonic show. This show was very popular with kids despite what angry sonic fans say.
Jealous they made a better story than he ever did?
But yeah, I knew this was gonna be how it ended, SEGA lied again. That said, pretty embarrassing from his end to get salty about it.
This wasn't just time travel though and the other worlds and characters seem to still be around at the end. Why would they suddenly disappear if they were still around when the prism was already intact in green hill?
I don't read western comic books. And I don't care about it perfectly fitting into various other sonic media like they insist on doing just to say "it doesn't matter anyway because it wipes itself out". What's wrong with wanting these events to actually matter when it takes up all this time and takes itself so seriously? It should just be in it's own universe.
>It's some time after Advance 3 >Orbot wasn't Orbot until Colors and it's prototype was in Unleashed >Cubot didn't exist at all until Colors
You didn't even try to cover that well, Ian.
Well technically Colors and Unleashed can still be "some time after Advance 3".
Saying it's after Advance 3 essentially just means it's after the Dreamcast/Gamecube/PS2 era.
Why the FRICK was Sonic not allowed to encounter any other Sonics of this was the conclusion anyways? Every shatterverse variant is effectively killed off via retcon anyways.
If the prism doesn't get shattered in the first place, Nine won't come into existence. Sonic they pull a Sonic 06, all the shatterverse variants are gone.
Wait, so Ian is spoiling the ending to a season that's not even out yet?
The seasons out I just watched the whole thing, someone posted a link for the episodes ITT. Does he have the authority to confirm none of it really mattered in the end is what I'm wondering.
Why are they trying so hard to establish a detailed timeline to a thirty year old franchise that's filled with self-contained stories.
I feel like it was only five or so years ago where the common mentality on Sega's end was "don't think about so hard", which was fine. If you want to tell more connected stories for your cartoon animal series, then you just do so going forward, you don't try to retroactively make sense of everything that came before when most of said content clearly wasn't envisioned to be heavily connected in the first place.
Whatever. Knowing Sega they'll probably dump this approach by the end of the decade anyway.
Sega is desperate to recreate the interconnected world of preboot Archie without understanding a damn thing about why that was so well-received and bebelovedits why so much of their stuff like Forces and New Yolk feel like theyre jsut doing what SatAM, Fleetway, Archie, and Underground did but worse.
I meant more that Archie felt like a 'lived-in' world that used game stuff and adapted it in ways the games never did. Sega even insisted that Archie adapt and promote the games stuff regularly.
Because everything already was connected fromSonic 1 to Sonic Rush and then 06 happened and instead of just ignoring it, they kept referencing it while also making counter lore to replace it with Rivals that nobody played. Then the Meta era comes and tries to act like most of that stuff never happened, aside from Generations which makes things super confusing, then they ultimately got tired of being scared of ignoring the 2000s and decided that everything should matter again. So Frontiers brings up a lot of old things and all these side medias like Prime, IDW and even Dream Team are all canon with only the movies remaining as their own separate thing that will get nods in the main series if it's cool enough.
>Flynn pointing out that it happens sometime after Advance 3
That feels pretty pointless in itself.
It also raises more questions than it answers, like why is Knuckles in Green Hill instead of on Angel Island, and why is Rouge hanging out with the group personally.
You had Sonic fans for the longest time ask for things to be straightened out in the lore department instead and this is their attempt in getting fans what they wat.
>Why are they trying so hard
They aren't. At leas the Prime writers didn't. We want them to, and it would be possible if they tried. But they didn't try.
I think its the reason why moving forward, Sonic's friends will always be playable characters. They stopped making the other characters playable for a while and all you could play was Sonic.
>off by one
Well what the frick was Nine supposed to make? It's not like they had a Tornado/Cyclone that could just go full Gundam at a moments notice.
Final Fantasy X is amazing, frick those remasters though it goes against the whole point of the game looking good for it's time especially. I don't know how you make a remaster a decade later just to make it uglier.
Sonic accidentally breaks his world into multiple different worlds with mostly forgettable variations of the original characters, then he fights AU Tails for a bit before they make up and restore the worlds. The end.
Well we don't get to see the variants at all after sonic goes back to his world, but they seemed alive and ready to go back to their own worlds which were also restored. Killing them off after that would make this all an even bigger waste of time.
Well at least with Thorn Rose she realizes her mistake and became a better person. Nines went full villain which went totally out of left field for the situation. Feels like Dread didn't learn anything and really had no reason to even get any focus after his introduction arc.
Dread randomly cared about black rose AND made her captain instead of repeating the muh beauty routine with the prism, that and the rusty rose scene with the bird and talking about being free felt random.
Found it in a tiermaker for Christmas carol adaptions. I'm very curious but nothing on the page actually indicates what it is and reverse google searching didn't work.
For anyone curious about the Shadow mandates or why Boom got screwed over this is probably the most candid interview the writers ever did and it flew totally under the radar
>Oh, man. Writing for Shadow was a challenge in itself. SEGA did not consider him a comedy character. They told us we could use him, he could be on the show, but he was not to be making any jokes. We were like “uh, sure.” So to work around that, the joke became the very fact that Shadow is completely humorless. So edgy, all the time. It was funny that he was here, having to deal with all these crazy people.
>Shadow was a character that was very protected by SEGA. They were reluctant to let us use him very much, and when we did use him, he came with so many notes and restrictions that it was easier to not use him. That’s why he wasn’t on the show as much as fans would have wanted.
Honestly I feel Boom shouldn't have used Shadow. There was literally no reason to use him at all in that setting.
Don't say fanservice, the fans don't deserve it.
>There was literally no reason to use him at all in that setting.
Shadow being a tryhard alone can lead to comedic scenarios and dry humor. I can easily see why they would want him.
I was lowkey hoping Prime would end with the worlds staying alive and each getting their own version of Sonic and even Shadow. But nope. This show is so lame.
They did. The ending is as clear as it can get, the rest of the characters are still alive in their Shatterverses while Sonic and Shadow are back to their home. Everyone is still alive.
The cliffhanger ending was probably the eggmans that were stuck in nowhere space finding a way to invade the main timeline.
I want Nine to just live in green hill. They wouldn't miss him in new yolk even if they forgave all the trouble he caused and Sonic and his original friends would welcome him just fine even if it's weird seeing another Tails at first. It would be interesting to see him interact with the originals.
The biggest mark against this show was not having an entertaining Eggman. They literally had FIVE of them, not counting the original, and none of them were good.
I think the characters were affected differently based on what they were doing when the prism was shattered.
Sonic hit the prism; he kept his memories and did not split up into variants. Shadow tried to teleport during the explosion; he got stuck between the worlds. Sonic's friends were hit by the blast; they split up into variants and lost their memories. Eggman was holding the prism when it shattered; he got split up but all of his variants ended up in the same world.
So last season had better moments between the characters, we had metal sonic with personality, we had a new sonic form, and we had a better cliffhanger. And people were still bored of last season but this seemed even more boring even though it should have been better as a finale. It seems like they blew their load early.
the sequence show the space station imploding in some time paradox
wouldn't be shocked if paramount is looking to soft reboot the movie series for longevity reasons
Nah, it's gonna be one of those cases where the entire hero team dies, the villains feel bad about it and go back in time to save them, sacrificing themselves in the process.
>Nah, it's gonna be one of those cases where the entire hero team dies, the villains feel bad about it and go back in time to save them
Could you really not spend two minutes to watch the animatic? The time travel bit being shown clearly isn't intentional on Eggman's part, it's due to his space station malfunctioning or whatever.

What? He's clearly instructing Shadow in moving the spaceship so it lines up with his calculations so they can do..something. And since the boards call it time travel, they're clearly trying to do that. You see none of the heroes in sight and Eggman has those flashbacks where he misses his evil henchmen. It's not wild to assume they're both trying to make up for their mistakes and cooperating to do this.
Its true he's not the one starting the time travel, but he is taking advantage of it to do something else, not just have the ship blow up.

>He's clearly instructing Shadow in moving the spaceship so it lines up with his calculations so they can do..something.
Seems more like Eggman is planning on firing a weapon, and Shadow is pushing the entire space station (I guess stand-ins for the Ark and the Eclipse Cannon) out of the way so that it misses its target, causing the weapon/station to malfunction.
Doesn't make a lot of sense for Eggman to direct his space station to be pushed intentionally. It's a space station, it can already move on its own through space.

Maybe the space station is damaged after the battle. And the title is time travel, not firing a laser.
No he has a house in several things
Games like Shuffle, Secret Rings, Jam and the novels.
Sega sometimes say or mandate he's a drifter though because they want to make him sound cool
Seems that way. Guess they didn't want to do the SA2 ending so they don't have to pretend Shadow is dead, knowing if the third movie does well they will just make more stuff with him.
They did not need to spend 4 and a half episodes on the fight in the Grim.
It was the same thing over and over. Team Sonic beats back the robots. Nine makes more, they overwhelm team Sonic, they find the strength to beat back the robots. Nine makes more, they overwhelm team Sonic, they find the strength to- HOLY SHIT WRAP IT THE FRICK UP.
Not really the time would have been better spent on the aftermath of the fight and spending some time with the original characters, there was zero reason for them to just repeat and drag this fight so much only to rush the ending anyway. >please understand we only had so much time because we wasted what time we did have
What else are they gonna do with the original characters? >no worldbuilding allowed >no romance allowed >Oh you wanna show them exploring their settings? Sorry we're too moronic to model anything. They just float on an empty expanse of water with no towns, settlements, other characters or anything
Frick, that would've been so much better. Having this as an epilogue season after hitting the midpoint conclusion would've been great. Especially since we, you know, barely know anything about Prime's OG versions of the crew.
I mostly liked the show's first two seasons as well. It's definitely rough around the edges but I didn't outright hate it. A comfortable 6/10. Could be better, could be a whole lot worse. Not some award winning masterpiece, but it was at least somewhat competent, even if No Place took up way too much time.
I fricking HATED this season though. It was badly written, badly animated, and nothing that anyone did actually mattered in the end. The fight was pointless. New Yoke Rouge's plan was pointless. Jack Septiceye's character was immediately forgotten about once Dread left him to help the Roses, even if he was supposedly still going for the Prism. The Chaos Emerald never came into play. The horrid sprite animation had no relation to the story, it was just a really out of place and badly made "flashback" to try and sell Sonic's depression or something. The combat had no weight to it, and I already went over the fight in the Grim.
It's just bad. First episode of the season was pretty alright, but then it nosedives in quality afterward. I don't know what happened during production but whatever it was, it wasn't good.
I thought it was funny their plan was to blind side Nine with the jungle crew while everyone else distracts him. Then when Nine punts the jungle crew away, they were like, the plan failed? Lol. Most of the time, Tails was the one who made their plans. Without Tails to plan for them, that's all they could do.
Good enough show, really good 3d animation and action but thats really about it, set pieces where boring and the plot really dropped whatever ball it had, character interactions were fine enough. Shadow was great,
he bombed stuff? Seemed the entire fight was just >Nine uses green lasers >Sonic uses shield >Nine repairs robot reskins >Nine uses green lasers >Sonic uses shield >Nine uses green lasers...
This was the dumbest Sonic I've ever seen. He had no plan. First season, sure. Its character development. Second season, he made the same mistake again. Third season, SAME mistake again and almost got everyone killed.
Was Sonic the villain? Nine was trying to save the world but he needed Sonic's energy. But Sonic would't listen. He just ran around saving people from falling but had no plan to repair the tears. Wtf. The longer Sonic ressisted, the worse the shatter verse got. What's even funnier is they reference several times that its the Eggmen's portals that caused the tears and not Nine.
Nine was trying to save their worlds but Sonic was acting like a dumbass and getting in his way. And then Sonic only figured it out after seeing the damn palm trees Nine made? In the end, Nine was still the guy that saves everyone's world but at what cost because Sonic was so stupid.
I mean, even if they beat Nine, what was their plan? He's the only one that knows shatter tech. Even the Eggmen stole that tech from him.
Sonic was even more dumb when backup arrived on Grim. Nine was literally willing to help/not go sicko mode on the other shatterspaces. Like they were talking it out and instead of Sonic running back to Nine and telling him that everyone came just to make sure he wasn't dead,he just doubles down on the "guess we have to fight "for no reason. Heck, Nine could've explained it to everyone there on how he could fix it and didn't really see New Yoke as a home
It was a bit weird how Sonic got convinced to fight Nine instead of trying more to calm everyone down. His attempt to talk to Nine was working okay until everyone showed up to fight and pushed things over the edge. However, >Heck, Nine could've explained it to everyone there
I don't think that would've been in his character. He was an angry loner who wanted to do his own thing without having to justify his actions to anyone else. He hadn't given the others any reason to trust his word, either. I don't think he was ready to explain himself, and I doubt the others would've listened until things got desperate.
Who is she?
Visually, she reminded me a little bit of Blaze while the other furry reminded me of Marine. I was wondering if they wanted to use more established Sonic characters as the supporting cast but Sega said no, so they stripped down their distinguishing features to replace them with OCs instead.
>A Sonic Advance 3 reference in a Sonic cartoon in 2024
Pretty cool since I love the Advance games, but why? Those games haven't been relevant in years. They aren't even on the Switch.
Would that be sega/sonic team's job of porting it or nintendo's? I'm not sure how long the GBA Switch online has been running so I'm surprised if they haven't been announced for that library yet
That's how most series would do it. >1st minute gets sent to different dimension, credits play >Next four minutes meets AU guys realises this is AU >Next 5 minutes finds AU bad guys or helps heroes fight them >Next 5 minutes either changing the minds of AU good guys to become more like the ones they know, or realising they're evil too >Last 7 minutes big end fight and getting sent back to real world
The New Yoke Knuckles sucker punched Nine in the face and he just walked it off like its nothing. Wonder if they'll ever let Knuckles punch Tails in the face.
I guess I'll have to wait for when the kids who watched Sonic Prime now to be old enough for here so I can finally discuss it without endless b***hing from the oldgays
I actually thought his side story was the best of the bunch. Dealing with being a weapon who everyone reasonably fears and his scenes with Omega and Rouge were fantastic.
Only flaw was they really brushed right the frick past that "I'm actually never going to grow old and am functionally immortal" thing.
>can allegedly create a paradise world >we can't animate that though, so just make like a pink crystal storage container and a dome around it >so noone can see there's absolutely nothing inside this giant grey desert set
I always wondered why there's 5 Eggmans if there's 6 shards. I guess I missed the fact that the original Eggman would be a hologram in the Ghost Hill, and was restored when Green Hill was restored. Now there's six worlds with six Eggmans.
This show is so boring that it never even began.
It was a decent premise for like a TV movie or a two partner but it's been stretched so thin.
It's Sonic, it's made for kids and autistic adults, and these people don't care about that.
My nephew won't watch it with me because he thinks it's boring.
Well, at least you're having fun, right?
Wtf did you expect? It's the way SEGA approaches Sonic's world nowadays.
>not allowed to have their backstory referenced or contracted
Good gravy, Sega's autism
>Good gravy, Sega's autism
It's more likely the writer was autistic and trying to make Shadow gay(er) than he is supposed to be.
>It's more likely the writer was autistic and trying to make Shadow gay(er) than he is supposed to be.
Shadow being an ultra-homosexual would be a step up from the dull black hole of charisma that he is now.
Anon, shut the frick up.
Stop besmirching Shadow fools.
To be fair, Nintendo is the exact same way with Mario.
Huh???
He's right in a way, that movie's story was shallow by Illumination standards.
It's Mario. He's a plumber from Brooklyn. That's the extend of his backstory.
I always prefered Mario being Italian as opposed to Italian American, yes his name is taken from an Italian American and I even grew up with the Dic Cartoon and 1993 movie
>Illumination
>standards
Pick one
It's actually crazy they allowed mario to have an on-screen family
>he says less than a year after a movie referencing Mario's original backstory while simultaneously contradicting his current backstory is released
To be fair this was the era where SEGA tried to pretend most of the 2000’s never happened
To be fair, Shadow's backstory in particular is seven different kinds of fricked up.
Which ironically makes it the perfect playground for autists to write their fanfiction
>second most popular character
>is a pain in the ass to write so much that it's best to not use him
It's like getting a really hot girlfriend but you can't touch her.
I wonder if that's why none of the IDW OCs have any history to their characters
>Whisper is just a person who was in Forces, no backstory or life from before then
>Lanolin is just a random person who was in issue 1, no backstory or life from before then
>Tangle is just a random person who fangirls Sonic and Blaze, no backstory, no place she grew up, no parents in sight, no explanation why she has powers, she just exists
>Starline is the same as these but gay for Eggman
>Surge and Kit literally have their past memories erased and aren't interested in what they are
It's like they're not allowed to come up with new lore. No princesses, no ancient monstrosities, no people born with duties. So their only characters now are just aimless complete randos wandering about bumping into eachother like stray particles
Not just the back story is restricted but development is restricted too. They can't develop the characters past the video games.
The japanese manual supposedly has it, can't confirm because I can't into moonrunes.
https://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2_(16-bit)/Manuals
>"Miles Prower" is a little fox.
>Miles has two tails. That's why the animals on the island call him "Tails."
>Because of his two tails, he was often bullied. But after seeing Sonic come to the island, Miles changed. He has made up his mind.
>"I wanna be cool too!"
>It was then that Miles started chasing after Sonic all day.
?si=hd-gEeL4_uP3epw5
>The japanese manual supposedly has it, can't confirm because I can't into moonrunes.
Doesn't seem to, this is the only translation I can find and it's nearly identical except for the prologue that gives a backstory the american book skipped https://sonic.fandom.com/wiki/Sonic_the_Hedgehog_2/Manuals
When was this backstory given? The original manual just said he though Sonic was cool. https://manuals.sega.com/genesismini/pdf/SONIC_THE_HEDGEHOG2.pdf
Also at no point is it implied in this someone bullied him.
Hell we don't want people thinking about Silver's future at all.
Maybe they shouldn't have made a stupid mess with Blaze there to begin with.
I honestly sometimes wonder if them pulling in two directions with Blaze immediately after her debut is one of the reasons they are so crazy with character related mandates now.
Clearly it didn't work with Classic Sonic or the Phantom Ruby.
All you need is an official wrangler and some hard rules.
Never noticed that. Even the archie FF everyone hated had more backstory. Both pre and post reboot.
Nobody hated the Freedom Fighters, except a mega autist on Cinemaphile and Amy/Sonic shippergays
>Whisper is just a person who was in Forces, no backstory or life from before then
All that shit with the Diamond Cutters and Mimic doesn't count?
The only thing we know about Mimic is that he's 30+ years old and betrayed the OG Diamond Cutters because...reasons. it's never elaborated as to what his personal history was or what would motivate him to suddenly side with Eggman after years/decades of good will.
Also he's asexual according to Evan.
>betrayed the OG Diamond Cutters because...reasons. it's never elaborated as to what his personal history was or what would motivate him to suddenly side with Eggman after years/decades of good will.
Just read the comic.
Most basic motivation but you’re acting like its a mystery.
he did say before Forces. Whisper's "backstory" is just "I was helping in Forces"
Probably. You read that book and you can just feel the corporate meddling
!?
They handled him gracefully given their limitations
>gets trolled by a youtube poop and decides to kill Sonic because of it
He's like a parody of what the character was at the moment, and really, what he is right now in any media outside of Prime. Boom was fricking visionary.
Compensating for something, Shadow?
lmao, FRICK Sega
They thought of everything
You know, maybe at this point Shadow should just t-pose in the middle of some random uninhabited location and not say or do anything.
It sucks, right? He's Vegeta if he weren't allowed to be a loser.
Oh I know. I was just trying to explain the weird mindset of Sega leading to all of this mess.
>Cream
She got beaten and emotionally traumatized during the Metal Virus arc
and afterwards she was perfectly fine, as if nothing had happened at all.
Cause it was Evan’s show
Of course.
Just like how Eggman jumps from being Stan-Hitler to being a goofy Saturday morning cartoon villain
*Satan-Hitler
When IDW is dealing with its OCs, you get Satan-Hitler Eggman, same as Archie.
When dealing with game characters, you get goofy Saturday morning cartoon villain, just like the games.
Yea it fricked shit up
I dunno shadow and vegeta are the same thing nowadays.
Yeah, and that's not a good thing.
At the same time I'd argue even Vegeta isn't mistreated as badly as Shadow's been as of late.
Is Shadow a murderhobo?
>”Why does he live in a cave”
where does shadow normally live anyway
Normally he sleeps in a pod in stasis in someplace secluded like underground or a space station.
I thought he was like piccolo and stood around random wastelands
Well you're fricking wrong then, all the random wastelands are filled with loop de loops.
He stands in the middle of public parks in the center of cities talking to himself about questions that never actually get answered, obviously.
Piccolo has a house.
I assume the same place Sonic lives. Outside.
On THE EDGE
I assume he's like sonic where they either couch surf, camp out in places, or very rarely go to their actual homes.
Probably crashes with Rouge or on the GUN compound.
>Alan Denton
Ah so it it is a skill+talent issue. 😉
What's the point of even creating non-comedic Sonic fiction (that isn't straight from Sonic Team) if the limitations are so absurd?
autists (the most vocal of Sonic consumers) don't like when their obsessions are treated as a joke
Yeah the finalle was just the same over and over again.
Why is this show so gay
Because Ian Flynn was involved with it.
Nothing good came out of post-Archie Sonic...and even THAT was wearing thin.
Very positive thread
Sonic is written so stupidly in this show, it's like Lost World all over again
Only with moronic Egg Council villains instead of moronic Zeti villains
Why do the Chaos Council all look like Carl Wheezer?
because Eggman is also a fat ginger and character design is hard
gay OP, at least explain that season 3 airs tomorrow
I thought it aired today
Here's your new Metal Sonic bros
Bionicle The Hedgehog?
MORE LIKE BLONIC THE HEDGEHOG
>Bionicle The Hedgehog?
I need this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECDJvpnR5Z4 with the Prime robots now.
at least this one fights instead of being a shitty copy of meta era sonic
He wasn't that bad. Having him run his mouth constantly was better than the silent version.
>No Budget
>3D
>Jungle and Pirate World are boring or filler
>Doesn't fully take advantage of alternate characters
Fan Projects and The Archie Comics were more creative with this premise. At the very least the locations and alternates were interesting. Eggyolk is only one that feels plot relevant and had the best fights.
I'm going to guess there won't be a Rouge that gets any focus in this season either.
There a mega?
Why can't we get an actual Sonic show, why is it always some kind of bullshit
SEGA Logic.
Sonic like to dip his toes in everything
toes
no
toes
lick
>Why can't we get an actual Sonic show
You did. it was called Sonic OVA and it barely went pass the pilot movie.
>why is it always some kind of bullshit
because nobody in the west take Sonic's level of autism seriously, so you need some kinda of gimmick, twist or subversive tone to get normal people to stomach the blue fricker for more than 3 minutes
You say that as if the games didn't also have some gimmick and "kind of bullshit"
Hopefully, they bit off way more than they could chew. This shit was way too ambitious for the budget.
The first two Sonic cartoons from the eraly 90s were way better than the shit they're playing now.
Nah Tails / Nine is WAY hotter now. God I wanna frick that little fox boy
Oy vey
The animation of Fiona riding Tails by that artist really activated my almonds.
link?
Amen.
Thoughts about about how it they'll somehow reveal by the end of this season how this show is canon?
I'm not looking forward to it
DBZ homosexualry was never amazing and praisable.
>A Sonic show that crosses over throught multiple Dimensions
>No Blaze
>Not even Silver
This is a new low even for you Ian
Why do people blame Ian for stuff he didn’t even do?
I grow frustrated with Ian but this wasn't his project. They managed to find someone blander than him.
When I heard of Prime, I thought it would be different Sonic universes like SatAM,
Underground, Boom, X, etc all meeting each other with different aniimation styles.
That's a legal nightmare, never going to happen.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit managed something bigger than that.
That would be fun, but Sega doesn’t like fun. They prefer Sonic to be safe, generic, slop.
TRIPLETS BORN
Sigh
Here we go.
All I’m saying is we could have avoided Urkel Saves Christmas if Jaleel White had been hired to voice three characters in the Sonic Underground universe in Sonic Prime.
White factually can't do the Sonic voice anymore to begin with.
I care not.
GIVE UP YOUR CHILDREN
They're saving it for season 2 fr fr
A shatterverse isn't an a traditional alternate universe/dimension.
It's just the original dimension splintered into themed toy variants.
Blaz would only exist if she was in the dimension when it shattered.
Also in media we conflate timelines dimensions and alternate universes but these are all different concepts.
Cosmic beings would exist in the space outside of dimensions, where Shadow hangs out now.
Why are you saying that, is Blaze a cosmic being?
Isn't Shadow there because Chaos Emeralds?
>Expecting the people who are known for making mid canadian cartoons to make anything other than a mid cartoon
>Not even Silver
No loss there, absolutely pointless character.
>No Blaze
>Not even Silver
We don't need more shitty characters in this show.
I see people asking for Silver and Blaze but what they add to the show's premise of green Hill splitting apart?
It's Solver
Chaos Sonic was Kino.
He's closest we're gonna get to animated Shard
So how much longer
>people like multiverse stories because it’s an easy way of combining multiple continuities into one story
>Sonic has a long history of alternate takes on the character that would make great alternate universes
>the show isn’t allowed to use any of the old shows and instead has to make due with generic bullshit like “jungle world” or “pirate world”
Sega fricked up the entire premise for the show due to their autism.
Is there any Sonic manga widely beloved by Japanese?
You don’t even have to use Satam. If that was such a big legal problem why not include Sonic X, OVA, or the classic universe? That would be way better than “Sonic’s friends but wearing different hats”. They absolutely squandered this concept.
Sonic X, OVA, and Classic are essentially the same thing, you homosexual.
You just want to eat shit and have your nostalgia pandered to.
>If that was such a big legal problem why not include Sonic X, OVA,
Sega doesn't fully own X or the OVA, they're partially owned by the anime studios.
No surge 0/10 series
>New Yolk City is already basically SATAM except Robotnik is five people.
Yes, and it's an entire alternate universe.
>Orbot and Cubot are basically just Scratch and Grounder.
Villains having lackeys is as old as time itself, that's not a point in SatAM's favor.
Satam could have been an alternate universe too.
I’d rather have the characters be slightly changed than have them do nothing.
>Satam could have been an alternate universe too.
That would be beyond the show's budget.
>I’d rather have the characters be slightly changed than have them do nothing.
They wouldn't be "slightly" changed, they'd be totally changed.
>slightly
That's the problem, it's not slightly, it's completely.
Sally’s not that much different than Blaze.
>Using generic ass ideas is taking from ShatAm
Hello Penders. have a nice day.
>Orbot and Cubot are basically just Scratch and Grounder.
Incompetent villain comedy duos are literally a go-to concept for people trying to flesh out the villain perspective.
>Scratch and Grounder
>Sleet and Dingo
>Decoe and Boco
>Orbot and Cubot
Recurring concept
Is this the show that made Rouge really flat? Because that was over before it even started
She's not flat, just covered up.
I dunno man, there's hardly anything to latch on to there.
Is it just me, or do the muzzles in Prime look flat and draped over the faces? Just SOMETHING about them really doesn't look right.
>Haven’t seen the rest of the show
>Skip to final scenes of final episode just because
>Tangle and Whisper kiss moment
God dammit. Is it a written rule that a modern cartoon has to end with a lesbian kiss or something?
Nice try.
Mega link please!!
season 3 just came out right? anyone has a mega?
Is it?
according to trakt
It only has 7 episodes, according to https://www.netflix.com/title/81294811. The last episode is just 25 minutes long too, so it's not that it's a double episode or anything. I thought they said the show would have 24 episodes in total.
So Prime's getting a 4th season.
Goodie.
Really?
So is there going to be a fourth season?
Reposting this from a Spanish group. The first audio track is Spanish but you can switch to original English if your player supports it.

How do you switch from spanish to english?
nevermind I worked it out.

Ending if anyone cares
That doesn't exactly feel like Nines is left all alone in the Grim.
>Complaining about character development
What did I expect from twittergays?
Mega please!
>prism has a missing piece in green hill
>nines steals it to use the energy for himself
>there's a missing piece so he can't use it
that's so moronic
Any early leaks yet? At least tomorrow this show will finally be over.
Yeah
He's the best thing to come out of this shit show
2nd episode and the conflict is still extremely contrived.
That was the biggest slog of a final battle I'd ever seen.
I was thinking the same. That thing was long and got seriously repetitive.
No, it was just released today.
So Nine is dead? This is gonna piss so many people off.
He got the Mephiles treatment
I don't feel like Mephiles has as many furries simping for him.
Nine is a pretty popular character to permanently erase.
Mephy is pretty popular too. He just won a poll to see who gets to be featured in the next Sonic Channel wallpaper.
Not a high bar.
>Mephiles won the poll
Fricking figures.
>Shitty recolor of a recolor won the poll
This is how I learn the Sonic Channel poll was rigged, huh?
NEVER MIND FRICK YOU FOR MAKING ME THINK SONICMAN LOST
I think the concept of mephiles is cool but he is undermined for taking the for of a recolor of a recolor
What about his crystal form?
But it seemed like the others and their worlds were still there despite the prism being restored and back at green hill.
The actual ending implies the shatterverse worlds still persist. Which means this isn't a 06 situation at all. So I feel like him telling everyone none of it matters is misleading.
The real question is does this mean Sonic's adventures in the shatterverse worlds were retconned out of existence, because that'd undo all the good he did, and those worlds don't have Sonics of their own.
>those worlds don't have Sonics of their own.
Why the frick did they do this? It even makes the ending make less sense.
Because when the Shattterverses were created Sonic and Shadow did some shit that left them out if the loop of creation, or something, I forget the specifics, just there was reason for it.
What confused me was when they were spending all this time trying to save the citizens in new yolk and the pirate main cast why was there no one else to save? Was it really just pirate knuckles, rouge, amy, tails, and big with almost zero other people in the world? If feels really empty.
Modelling background characters and buildings is really haaaaaaarrrd pls understand
Honest to god Prime has some of the laziest 3d animation I have ever seen in my life.
Yeah, aside from the city, the settings were super empty (and even the city didn't appear to have that many people in it).
It also weirded me out that there were these occasional moments where a couple of nobodies managed to get lines and screentime. After watching everything revolve around the main cast, it was just unexpected to see some random furry show up out of nowhere and get a little bit of character focus.
That makes sense from the perspective of the worlds literally coming into existence when the prism was shattered.
But since they persist even without that happening, the people who appear in those worlds has no real reason or origin point. It was all a coincidence the cast present at the shattering are the main residents of each world?
You're thinking about it harder than anybody was meant to.
That's not very hard at all. Literally basic object (in this case, character) permanence shit.
The show literally asks you to consider the moral dilemma of sacrificing the individual worlds to save the complete universe. Then it just refuses to commit to it.
The individual worlds weren't meant to exist, are full of incomplete facets of Sonic's friends and are complete shitshows anyway.
The ending implies they DO exist even if they don't frick with the prism. That's the issue.
Yeah, that makes no sense.
>So I feel like him telling everyone none of it matters is misleading.
You didn’t need Ian to tell you that none of this mattered.
>returned back in time
No he didn't.
>Shadow is an android
When is that ever stated?
SA2 originally implies SA2 Shadow might have been a replica of the original flashback shadow since it was never reported whether Shadows capsule was found or not.
Due to sloppy writing this is only partially implied and was only ever outright stated in sonic X/SA2 guide books
Made it pretty clear that it was the real Shadow by him being able to go Super, get mind-raped by Black Doom, etc...
Maybe play the games instead of talking shit?
I said it was implied not stated as fact, it’s not my fault you don’t know your SA2 lore
>it was implied
It was never implied.
Again, stop being a Dunning Kruger exhibit. You're actively hurting the validity of people who shit on Sega's inconsistency.
Never ever tell anyone to play Shadow the Hedgehog anon. That's an act of cruelty that should honestly be criminalized.
They had a whole western lore bible but Sega hated the frick out of it and adamantly refused to use or reference it out of spite, so here we are now.
Justified. Western Sonic lore has never been good.
Is that why Boom was killed off? Because it couldn't conform to this new everything-is-canon mentality?
I mean yeah sure the cartoon was living on borrowed time after the games flopped and the comics were cancelled, but still.
>Boom was meant to outright replace the original continuity if it fid well enough
Well... I am glad THAT didn't end up happening.
Same. I LIKE Boom and I'm sure the games would have been fun if they weren't maliciously fricked over, but I wouldn't want it becoming THE game continuity.
They DO mention Sticks in Sonic Frontiers, so who fricking knows.
I haven't played Frontiers
Qrd?
Don't know what QRD means.
quick rundown
Okay.
In the English script of Frontiers ending, Amy wonders if Cream and Sticks would be free to join her on a trip around the world.
This isn't in the Japanese script, so make of that what you will.
The English script was written first, so Kishimoto either intentionally wrote her mention out or his MTL translation missed it.
I'd bet money on the first one.
It's definitely the first one because Kishimoto has outright stated that he removed most of Flynn's references simply because Sonic isn't very popular in Japan, thinking that most of said reference would have simply went over Japanese players' heads.
No fricking wonder Ian sounds so spiteful whenever he has to talk at length about Frontiers stuff.
Flynn always comes off as highly spiteful whenever he has to talk about something he didn't have majority control/influence over. I guess that just comes with being part-autist.
>No fricking wonder Ian sounds so spiteful whenever he has to talk at length about Frontiers stuff.
No one here listens to them so you can easily make up bullshit to sell here.
Honestly I'm behind that just because Ian relies WAY too heavily on references in lieu of writing actual dialogue. It's obnoxious.
Amy mentions going on a trip around the world with her and Cream in the ending of the game. Sonic also has an idle quote talking about Tangle in-game.
The Chaos Council are heavily implied, albeit not explicitly stated to be facets of Eggman's personality that took on individual lives of their own in the New Yolk shatterverse. No idea why they're the only ones in all the shatterverses though.
It's nothing crazy just at the very end of the game before they head home they mention sticks.
Amy mentions meeting up with her during the ending cutscene
Not really, no.
They don't fill their threads with autism fight. More roll/waifu fapping, crying about L3, and wishing capcom would look at them.
>Nobody knows if their project is set on Mobius or Earth
It’s Earth.
I really, REALLY want multiverse shit to die already.
Also, a Sonic cartoon without a fricking moronic gimmick for once would be nice.
>Also, a Sonic cartoon without a fricking moronic gimmick for once would be nice.
See this
So did you guys like the ending they gave to nine ?
What happened?
It was ok, i expected worse but what i got was relatively pleasant!
Is boring, specially compared to Sonic Boom.
Sonic and Knuckles are a Spongebob and Patrick ass duo
So are all the variants dead or something?
Nines most evil moment was saying he hates chili dogs
Best twist in the whole series
Prime Tails probably hates Chilli Dogs, but he's too much of a pussy to tell Sonic.
Even this Tails had to be extremely pissed and cornered to say it
>gets warned for bringing up Nine's VA
Well frick you too mods/jannies
>the other tails variants are dead
Why
Mega anyone? All my sites only have episode 1,3 and 5
Here

Jealous they made a better story than he ever did?
But yeah, I knew this was gonna be how it ended, SEGA lied again. That said, pretty embarrassing from his end to get salty about it.
What? How is he salty here?
Wow what a shitty thing to set up. Basically non-canon.
3 "seasons" and twenty some episodes for something that doesn't matter. So heckin satisfying and totally worth it. Jesus Christ.
Half of all time travel stories end up erasing themselves. They are literally its the friends we made along the way style stories.
This wasn't just time travel though and the other worlds and characters seem to still be around at the end. Why would they suddenly disappear if they were still around when the prism was already intact in green hill?
>OH MY GOD WHERE IS MY LE HECKING CONTINUITY
I bet you like the insane web that is western comic book universes, don't you?
I don't read western comic books. And I don't care about it perfectly fitting into various other sonic media like they insist on doing just to say "it doesn't matter anyway because it wipes itself out". What's wrong with wanting these events to actually matter when it takes up all this time and takes itself so seriously? It should just be in it's own universe.
>It's some time after Advance 3
>Orbot wasn't Orbot until Colors and it's prototype was in Unleashed
>Cubot didn't exist at all until Colors
You didn't even try to cover that well, Ian.
Well technically Colors and Unleashed can still be "some time after Advance 3".
Saying it's after Advance 3 essentially just means it's after the Dreamcast/Gamecube/PS2 era.
Sonic literally already uses this excuse before, what the frick
Why the FRICK was Sonic not allowed to encounter any other Sonics of this was the conclusion anyways? Every shatterverse variant is effectively killed off via retcon anyways.
Killed off via retcon how?
If the prism doesn't get shattered in the first place, Nine won't come into existence. Sonic they pull a Sonic 06, all the shatterverse variants are gone.
That is fricked up. So the variants just accept dying like that?
We don't know if they will have a say In the matter. Ian is further than we are apparently.
Same reason Mimic wasnt allowed to look exactly like Sonic. It’ll confuse the kids.
Wait, so Ian is spoiling the ending to a season that's not even out yet?
The seasons out I just watched the whole thing, someone posted a link for the episodes ITT. Does he have the authority to confirm none of it really mattered in the end is what I'm wondering.
Yeah that seems like a huge misstep on his part. Maybe he thought the episodes were further along than they are.
Sega is desperate to recreate the interconnected world of preboot Archie without understanding a damn thing about why that was so well-received and bebelovedits why so much of their stuff like Forces and New Yolk feel like theyre jsut doing what SatAM, Fleetway, Archie, and Underground did but worse.
>recreate the interconnected world of preboot Archie
It wasn't interconnected though, the games and comics were distinctly segregated.
Why is he insisting on """canon""" anyway? There is no canon with this show. It's Netflix goyslop.
I think its the reason why moving forward, Sonic's friends will always be playable characters. They stopped making the other characters playable for a while and all you could play was Sonic.
I hated how they were hyping it up like nine was gonna summon something like gif related but it was just giant robo big
That thing was an absolute unit due to its defense capabilities + the tadpole froggy missles were cute too
That just sounds randumb and a homosexual waste of a final boss
>off by one
Well what the frick was Nine supposed to make? It's not like they had a Tornado/Cyclone that could just go full Gundam at a moments notice.
a giant robot that isn't Big the Cat? Or just make a Cyclone if he could've made anything.
THE ABSOLUTE STATE OF CANADIAN ANIMATION WHAT THE FRICK
https://twitter.com/RRosdreguis/status/1745447260983632056
>FINAL FANTASY SONIC X IS YEARS OLD AND LOOKS CENTURIES BETTER THAN THIS!!
kek true, this blew my mind when i was a kid
Final Fantasy X is amazing, frick those remasters though it goes against the whole point of the game looking good for it's time especially. I don't know how you make a remaster a decade later just to make it uglier.
Some things just weren't made to exist in HD.
That's almost as funny as Fire Force using the "bruh" sound effect
Why are Sonic and Tails so gay in this?
They just happy
Netflix. Tails is always pretty gay for Sonic, though.
The actual fight scenes are really good though, I don't give a shit that some 8 bit small moment looks like trash.
That's 16 bit you uncultured ninny.
Someone tldr the Prime series
Good ideas, terrible execution.
Sonic accidentally breaks his world into multiple different worlds with mostly forgettable variations of the original characters, then he fights AU Tails for a bit before they make up and restore the worlds. The end.
That makes it sound better than it actually was.
True I left out all the drawn out fodder fights which felt like it took up the majority of the time for no reason
Doesn't restoring the worlds essentially kill off the variants since they are splintered from the whole?
Well we don't get to see the variants at all after sonic goes back to his world, but they seemed alive and ready to go back to their own worlds which were also restored. Killing them off after that would make this all an even bigger waste of time.
So what was the point of Knuckles the Dread?
Nothing. Only the New Yolk City world really mattered.
>Dread randomly cared about black rose AND made her captain
Was there any buildup to that?
I don't think there was.
Well that's why it was random and I wasn't that satisfied by it, just confused. Prior to this he was just sulking or fighting.
Found it in a tiermaker for Christmas carol adaptions. I'm very curious but nothing on the page actually indicates what it is and reverse google searching didn't work.
What? Are you in the right thread?
I'm moronic lol I meant to post this as a thread pls ignore
i only watched the first season, is it worth to continue?
No, no it really isn't.
Not really. The show deletes itself like 06 and is completely inconsequential.
That wouldn't be so bad if the actual ride itself was fun, and it really had the potential to be
But it wasn't.
For anyone curious about the Shadow mandates or why Boom got screwed over this is probably the most candid interview the writers ever did and it flew totally under the radar
https://www.megavisions.net/building-a-boom-iverse-an-interview-with-sonic-writers-alan-denton-and-greg-hahn/
>why Boom got screwed over
In what regard?
By Cartoon Network, SEGA and budgetary constraints.
The joke with him in Boom is that he's completely edgy and humorless.
The joke with him in IDW is that he keeps blowing up.
All the more evidence to the fact bringing Shadow back after SA2 was a mistake.
Shadowbros this can't be true
It's totally true.
The real question is how this ended up happening, who at Sega thinks this is a good idea.
>There was literally no reason to use him at all in that setting.
Shadow being a tryhard alone can lead to comedic scenarios and dry humor. I can easily see why they would want him.
Or just trying not to get sucked into the weird shit they do. Carl's one of the best characters on Aqua Teen and he is just a regular ass dude.
The three Roses bonding was cute
Masturbation friendship
Bonding....leeeeeesbians?
>they also call each other "sisters"
So would it count as lesbians, incest, or masturbation?
Yes
Artists are gonna do all of the above anyway.
The technical term would be just The last 2.
If Sonic isn't allowed to have significant continuity, why isn't this just a comedy series? People love AoSTH, Boom TV and the murder mystery.
Sonic is supposed to be an action series but these mandates are getting in the way of everything, especially with the "everything is canon" bullshit.
this is probably my coomer brain talking, but isnt there an awful lot of moaning and groaning this season?
Nine was moaning a lot extracting energy from the crystal things
The ending of this series makes causality in Sonic even more confusing than it already was
I was lowkey hoping Prime would end with the worlds staying alive and each getting their own version of Sonic and even Shadow. But nope. This show is so lame.
Yeah I thought that was the fix, each world getting its own Sonic, which would probably fix Nine.
The only positive here is the Implication that the shatterverse worlds still exist out there, but that's it.
They did. The ending is as clear as it can get, the rest of the characters are still alive in their Shatterverses while Sonic and Shadow are back to their home. Everyone is still alive.
The cliffhanger ending was probably the eggmans that were stuck in nowhere space finding a way to invade the main timeline.
So Nines is living all alone in the Grim. Sad.
Honestly, it's bitter as frick but better than just getting erased and treated like thats a good thing like other series' would have done.
The Egg council was a total layup for something interesting, and somehow they completely fumbled it.
They tried with the weeb and emo Carl Wheezer but not even Joeadok can make these guys appealing
Maybe NOT making them special was an attempt at subverting expectations?
What was the deal with these guys anyway? why does one world have five Eggmen and the others have none?
Because reasons.
Yes, that's literally all there is to them. They're not even related.
I wish they had used it as an opportunity to bring back Scratch, Grounder, and Coconuts.
>watching show
>Sonic hurts himself spin balling henchmen
Man even boom jobbed less.
<you so garbage it rides itself from canon
KINO
fricking 06 is more canon LMAO
good to know someone out took how unearthly stretchy the animation is in this show to heart
Really not a fan of these Amy renders, the arms are too long and the faces feel like masks.
So last season had better moments between the characters, we had metal sonic with personality, we had a new sonic form, and we had a better cliffhanger. And people were still bored of last season but this seemed even more boring even though it should have been better as a finale. It seems like they blew their load early.
Something is off about Sonics character but I cant quite put my finger on it, its like hes missing the cool factor.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 film leaked board
https://twitter.com/cartoonupdates/status/1745567461062135840
>time travel
What the frick?
I think it means a flashback
the sequence show the space station imploding in some time paradox
wouldn't be shocked if paramount is looking to soft reboot the movie series for longevity reasons
And the title is time travel, not firing a laser.
>soft reboot
That would be totally pointless.
It would have more longevity if they didn't do that. They can make a Shadow the Hedgehog solo movie if people like their version of the character.
Hey, I'm just glad Jim Carrey is in
So did anyone preserve these leaks elsewhere?
HOLY SHIT!
Also the movie is rated PG13 so they're gonna shoot a child
LE HOLY SHIIIIT?
SONIC WENT…LE SUPER SAWNIC????!!!
Wowie Zowie!!!
It’s an SA2 adaptation, of course that happens moron.
Theres more story boards. Knuckles gets shocked by electric tentacles by eggman. Thats how he jobs in 3 lmao!
It's not 3, it's the TV show he's getting for paramount+
Love this frame
Oh you're right! Looks like Wade gets a robot fist too.
>BLACKARMSBATTLE
Excuse me? The Black fricking Arms in the Knuckles show?
From the looks of it is some army guy using some mech and calling it that, probably not related to that alien dude. At least not yet.
Is sonic a hobo?
He's a drifter.
No he has a house in several things
Games like Shuffle, Secret Rings, Jam and the novels.
Sega sometimes say or mandate he's a drifter though because they want to make him sound cool
Time travel is such a weird thing to add to SA2.
So it looks like Eggman and Shadow fricked up big time and thats both of their redemptions to fix things
That's what happens when you gotta fill out 7 episodes, but the only thing you can be bothered to model is more robot reskins
Not really the time would have been better spent on the aftermath of the fight and spending some time with the original characters, there was zero reason for them to just repeat and drag this fight so much only to rush the ending anyway.
>please understand we only had so much time because we wasted what time we did have
What else are they gonna do with the original characters?
>no worldbuilding allowed
>no romance allowed
>Oh you wanna show them exploring their settings? Sorry we're too moronic to model anything. They just float on an empty expanse of water with no towns, settlements, other characters or anything
Frick, that would've been so much better. Having this as an epilogue season after hitting the midpoint conclusion would've been great. Especially since we, you know, barely know anything about Prime's OG versions of the crew.
I agree with this and I'm a fan of the show
I mostly liked the show's first two seasons as well.
If SA2 was the Independence Day of Sonic, then truly this was the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse of Sonic
>no metal tails
Pathetic
Eggpunch was funny
Good enough show, really good 3d animation and action but thats really about it, set pieces where boring and the plot really dropped whatever ball it had, character interactions were fine enough. Shadow was great,
Least the sonic vs. tails battle in ep 6 was worth all the budget cuts elsewhere.
no it wasn't
Suit yourself. But its doubtful animated is going to get much better than that. And if you're holding out for OVA tier...
Also liked Tails bombing shit again.
he bombed stuff? Seemed the entire fight was just
>Nine uses green lasers
>Sonic uses shield
>Nine repairs robot reskins
>Nine uses green lasers
>Sonic uses shield
>Nine uses green lasers...
Nah bombs were referring to the other two tails.
>Nine was trying to save their worlds
No he was only going to save the grim he didn't care about the others.
No. Grim was in danger because of the tears. To save Grim, he had to shut off the tears and thus saving the other worlds as well.
However,
>Heck, Nine could've explained it to everyone there
I don't think that would've been in his character. He was an angry loner who wanted to do his own thing without having to justify his actions to anyone else. He hadn't given the others any reason to trust his word, either. I don't think he was ready to explain himself, and I doubt the others would've listened until things got desperate.
Visually, she reminded me a little bit of Blaze while the other furry reminded me of Marine. I was wondering if they wanted to use more established Sonic characters as the supporting cast but Sega said no, so they stripped down their distinguishing features to replace them with OCs instead.
I was expecting Jack Septic Eye would get blown up or smashed or something.
We did it bros, Sonic finally did the le heckin Fortnite dance
>Shadow was not allowed to actually interact with any of the other characters besides Sonic
He talked to Amy and Rouge at the very end.
Yeah wtf that's the biggest wasted opportunity
He talked to a Rouge and an Amy.
how could it be over if it never begun?
I think this entire show can get cut down to a 2 hour TV movie.
It could get cut down to a single 22 minute episode
That's how most series would do it.
>1st minute gets sent to different dimension, credits play
>Next four minutes meets AU guys realises this is AU
>Next 5 minutes finds AU bad guys or helps heroes fight them
>Next 5 minutes either changing the minds of AU good guys to become more like the ones they know, or realising they're evil too
>Last 7 minutes big end fight and getting sent back to real world
you can cut it in 3 hour long specials
The New Yoke Knuckles sucker punched Nine in the face and he just walked it off like its nothing. Wonder if they'll ever let Knuckles punch Tails in the face.
They'll never let Tails be a villain ever again so I'm glad Prime tried it
They can fight in S3 and Fighters and Battle
Tails is a damage sponge, fricker gets trapped in spike pits with no rings and still doesn't die
I guess I'll have to wait for when the kids who watched Sonic Prime now to be old enough for here so I can finally discuss it without endless b***hing from the oldgays
I'm 26 anon, care to have a civilized discussion in the next thread if there is one?
So is the series finally over?
After reading thread can they just retire sonic?Who cares about the comics either.
After 3 seasons I have only 1 thing to say:
I want to have sex with rusty rose
That would be painful
Requesting an edit of pic related with Rusty Rose
If I have anything to say about this show it's the best Shadow has ever been in anything since Sonic Heroes in terms of characterization
There was nothing wrong with Shadow's character in 06, ironically enough for that game
I actually thought his side story was the best of the bunch. Dealing with being a weapon who everyone reasonably fears and his scenes with Omega and Rouge were fantastic.
Only flaw was they really brushed right the frick past that "I'm actually never going to grow old and am functionally immortal" thing.
Who is she?
New season already?
I was sick of looking at The Grim tbh
>can allegedly create a paradise world
>we can't animate that though, so just make like a pink crystal storage container and a dome around it
>so noone can see there's absolutely nothing inside this giant grey desert set
I always wondered why there's 5 Eggmans if there's 6 shards. I guess I missed the fact that the original Eggman would be a hologram in the Ghost Hill, and was restored when Green Hill was restored. Now there's six worlds with six Eggmans.
The mystery is why are there 5 Eggmans in 1 shatter space. Why didn't each space get their own Eggman?
That's it???
So where's episode 8???
They said there were 24 episodes. That ending was lackluster.
stoopid gaijin no eighth episode for you, honorabu Sonikku save day show ova now
With all the friendship building, how come we didn't get any ass eating?
