Sonic Prime in a nutshell. Is setting the show in places that is Green Hill in different skins some kind off joke or done to save money? All the least of this show's "worldbuilding." every world was lifeless and based on tired tropes. It's a bad sign when the pirate world is more populated than the city world.

Every other Sonic show/movie has little to no environments from the games, except for the OVA. It and Prime are the only ones that actually look like a classic Sonic game.
But this is Modern Sonic. Shouldn’t it have the locales unique to him.
modern sonic had classic style zones in the advance games anyway
Modern Sonic is a fricking confused mess with no concrete art direction. I can't think of any other series as schizo as Sonic is in that regard.
>It and Prime are the only ones that actually look like a classic Sonic game.
AoStH says "hi".
AoStH looks like Ren and Stympy with Looney Tunes characters, it's surreal but not like the classic games (not even the first one).
>except for the OVA
Man I wish they made that into a full series.
I was rewatching it last night, it's still fricking great. Sonic is SO much more fun and interesting a character in this than practically every other interpretation of him since, same with Tails. Eggman's perviness is jarring as frick, but he is otherwise excellent, funny and a threat at the same time. Knuckles is fine, I think he definitely needed more moments where his cooler side was shown off more.
It doesn't use game locations, which is kind of a bummer, but they make it JUST weird and dream-like enough by setting it on some floating sky islands above a ruined earth that it doesn't hurt it too much.
It is GENUINELY cool. Not in a weird cringe way that people seem to want it to lean into now like Shadow watching a kid get gunned down and being made of alien blood or whatever. It IS cool.
I miss Sara, the only Sonic girl worth it.
Sara's just Amy but a catgirl. I mean I agree that she's great, but let's not be coy here.
She is not like Amy, Sara is a spoiled child who is a little selfish, she throws tantrums when she doesn't get what she wants and she is willing to use her femininity to get what she wants.
Amy is boring now that her obsessive love for sonic was taken away.
I would marry Sara.
maybe someday
Sara was created to do shit you couldn't, wouldn't, and shouldn't with Amy Rose
Sara makes me realise that the issue with Elise was more about the art style clash than the interspecies romance
Elise looked too realistic compared to the rest, so she felt very uncomfortable.
There's that and the fact that she's largely just a comic relief character, so the inherent ridiculousness of her and Sonic being an item isn't complete cringe since it's not played dead serious.
>From a time where Mobian x Human relationships were cool in the eyes of Sega of Japan and fans.
Have they ever done male human and female mobian?
Sonic X had F Human F Mobian
>spoiler
Indeed! Their love is real, and nobody will ever convince me otherwise.
Who's him?
>this man fricked a Mobian
>we never will
Such is life.
Sara's mom a cute. CUTE!
We were fricking robbed. I tried watching Sonic X but it is so boring both in aesthetics and story.
Green Hill Zone is the best zone and I'm tired of pretending it's not. It's iconic and conceptually limitless. It's the perfect backdrop for any Sonic story.
Green Hill and it's contemporaries is a good establishing shot for a sonic story but it shouldn't be the only backdrop. As for as best out out the grass themed zones Angel Island Zone is probably the best.
I think it's criminal how slept on Emerald Hill is.
>comfy sunflower fields
>poppier colors than green hill
>Green Hill in the background
>Tails' humble beginnings
And the bassline fricking SLAPS
The problem with Sonic is that there is no central location.
For Spider-Man it's New York, and you visit alternate NYCs.
Sonic is also a flat character that doesn't have narrative arcs.
But in Prime he's an idiot who needs to be taught to appreciate his friends.
Writers don't know what to do with Sonic.
He's a globetrotting adventurer.
But you can't do that with a CGI cartoon budget, so they use Green Hill.
I don't mind them using one location but Green Hill is just one Zone of a whole island. The show acts like Sonic's whole world is Green Hill. It's like if a Mario cartoon was made and the setting is just World 1 of SMB.
>But you can't do that with a CGI cartoon budget
Isn't 3D animation supposed to be cheaper?
CGI is cheaper because of reusing assets.
But making new assets is more expensive.
Sonic Boom made a joke about this aspect.
At least Boom had a proper setting.
With the three Adventure locations, it'd make it much easier to reuse assets without it looking too obvious. Mystic Ruins and much of Angel Island share certain aesthetics. And the assets from all three can be used to create new locations for the other worlds.
But Sonic Team likes Sonic wandering.
In the games he's always in a new location.
Sonic sort of just shows up anywhere.
Has no home, work/school or hangout.
Those are the 3 places people frequent.
South Island could work as Sonics home.
In the Maina shorts they use Angel Island.
But every classic Sonic game is a new island.
All Emerald hill has are the corkscrews.
And they get placed into Green Hill now.
It's been forgotten and merged with it.
There are cartoons with characters always in new location.
But having a central location is easier and you can reuse backgrounds.
>Sonic has no home
Why you lyin', homie?
Every adaption creates their own setting.
Ask someone where Sonic lives, anon.
They would probably say Green Hill.
But in Generations he doesn't recognize it.
It's just another place, it has many clones.
And in Forces it's disconnected from South Island.
Green Hill stopped being a place and is just an idea.
That's why in Prime Green Hill exists in a void, with nothing else.
Yeah, and it's part of the reason the IP sucks so hard now. The main character isn't even allowed to have a fricking house. Sonic isn't a character to Sega, he's a glorified logo. It's pathetic.
Bold of you to assume the tarot girl isn't into some freaky shit.
Sonic’s a vagabond. He doesn’t have a house or he does, but rarely hangs there. He likes to travel and chill wherever. The other characters have actual homes.
You know, I've always wondered where Sonic gets his money from.
My theory is that they give him everything for free or he charges royalties for the products with his face.
>anon: hey Sonic, I always wondered where you get so much money to cover your expenses.
>sonic: oh, I charge royalties to companies that use my name on their products, did you ever wonder why this place is called Sonic's Dinner?
>anon: that makes sense, what about you Tails? You must have a very lucrative job to pay for all your inventions.
>tails: oh no, sonic gives me money, he's the one who pays for all that.
>sonic: anything for my best friend.
>anon: and you, amy?
>amy: well...heheh... you know... sonic also gives me money, *cough* hehhe...
>anon: rouge?
>rouge: I also ask sonic for money.
>anon: but you were the owner of a casino!
>rouge: yes, but who doesn't like free money?
>sonic: well said, take 100.
Does Sonic also finances Eggman just to keep things going?
He likes to sleep on Tails' couch but since Tails has a house in every corner of the planet, he doesn't have to worry about having a home while he's globetrotting. Or just has no problem sleeping outside.
>He likes to sleep on Tails' couch
I don't even have to make a dirty joke. Your mind is already filling in the blanks as you read this post.
son of a b***h!
yes, Sonic is one of Eggman's investors, he also finances the Restoration.
Only in the OVA unfortunately.
Occasionally, a manual like Sonic Labyrinth or a game like Secret Rings will imply that Sonic has a home, but others suggest that he's a nomad, like a previous anon mentioned. Heck, Sonic Battle gives Tails, Amy, Knuckles and Rouge explicit houses/bases, but Sonic doesn't seem to have one.
Unfortunately I don’t think the studio known for making mid ass Canadian cartoons cared all that much about the Sonic universe beyond whatever guidelines SEGA gave them
Station Square should've been his NYC. That, Mystic Ruins and Angel Island being regular locations for the cast.
That's what Sonic X did, so it could work.
Sonic gets stuck in a new location.
Yeah the unnamed island and village.
Made a joke about using the same sets.
I saw somewhere it was called Kaboom island.
>Station Square
Amy and possibly Rouge live there.
>Mystic Ruins
Tails, Cream, Vanilla, Big and probably Sticks live there. SEGA refuses to have Sticks as an Angel Island native so the Mystic Ruins are the next best thing.
>Angel Island
Knuckles
Sonic doesn't need to have a home base or whatever. Dude just chills wherever. Tails' House, Station Square Hotel and chilling wherever the frick on Angel Island.
This. Station Square specifically works because it's a large metropolitan area with lots of people in it. Green Hill is lame because nobody fricking lives there. It's hard to give a damn about the story if the heroes aren't visibly protecting anyone.
The Game Gear games usually took place on South Island (and, based on the original plans for Sonic 2, that may have been intended to be the case for the console games as well)
That’s right. Sonic 2 was originally going to be set in South Island. Emerald Hill was a renamed Green Hill.
>Sonic Prime? More like Sonic CRIME
You know what's fricking weird? In the first episode Sonic literally grabs rings and it seems they are used in the same way they are used in the games but then for the rest of the show they never appear again nor are mentioned.
The ending of this stupid kids show wasn't even good.
The worst part of the show is Rouge, they put her in Sonic's main group of friends just to not do anything with her, it would have been better to use Cream.
Write something better then c**t, you can't.
Why the frick do ya'll always complain about everything, they've given you a Netflix series, think about that, how many cartoons get to have even one complete season!
They've given you games, and a long spanning comic that just hit its 100th anniversary.
ya'll are wack, ya'll don't know shit, you don't ndeserve the Shadopw movie.
People *shit* on things they don't like.
People *complain* about the things they love, that haven't yet reached their potential.
>want more aquatic mobians because they're cool
>the main character, around whom all things MUST revolve around like he's the fricking sun, is a little b***h baby who's afraid of water
...
Was South Island ever referenced by name in-game before Frontiers?
Does Sonic The Fighters count? Because it's the first stage/arena.
