Sopranos

Christopher never did anything wrong.

He never had a father and the closest thing to one was Tony (wow what a great dad). He wanted nothing more than to make some prestige of the glorified crew that's in New Jersey.

He constantly tried to become better but was forced to succumb to the evils that this life brings. All he ever wanted was to make New Jersey a real family and get Tony's Approval.

Yet after Tony tries to frick his dime piece of a girl, Christopher is the bad guy.

Reminder that the two people put under him ended up trying to kill him and almost put Tony behind bars.

I got a prank call at my job today and this guy straight up told me he looked like a character from the sopranos, he said Paul but it sounded like Giamatti after that, then he called me a Moulinyan twice not even joking, I was so amused by the references I let him tell me to frick off in his weird jack black voice over and over

I called the suicide hotline once and they told me to quit hogging the line. There might be people who actually want to commit suicide. Rude.

How ridiculous is the concept? If you're going to an hero, you've already made up your mind. You're not going to dial a number. I asked her a bunch of questions. The suicide hotline is moronic. I just called in to see what they were up to over there. Incompetent.

yeah I can't imagine how malleable your mind must be that some half assed suicide hotline perp is gonna convince you not to have a nice day with the most cliche tired advice that EVERYONE already gives, must just exist for people who badly want attention

What bad comings? Him trying to sober up and the shitty "family" making him have a drink?

He did his best to clean up and be realistic but they kept pulling him into the shits.

      >start doing heroin cause young and moronic
      >get addicted
      >get sent to rehab by everyone around you
      >get better
      >actively shat on for having to be sober all the time
      >literally get made fun of constantly for it
      >whenever you do decide to have a drink everyone is visibly uncomfortable around you
no one around chris was supportive of his sobriety. sure you can argue the guys were just making jokes but it was clearly pissing chris off which is funny because you'd think if people around you cared enough to send you to rehab they'd also actively try to make sure you stay sober, not discourage you from being sober.

the sad truth is the average person even the ones close to you in your life barely thinks about the ccnsequences of their actions or how it might affect you/other people. Though the people who put him in rehab do want him to remain sober from hard drugs they also don't think about how vulnerable Chris/whomever can be to being around drinking or being made fun of.

After watching that show about 4 times all the way through in the last 15 years, I think he would have ratted given his character. Tony knew it was only a matter of time before Chrissy got pinched by the feds. No way in hell would Chris not go states witness when the FBI tells him that Tony had his wife wacked.

wtf does that mean? This is a hypothetical scenario assuming that Chris did not get killed because he was loaded or on drugs. How would you feel if you did not have breakfast this morning?

of the big three 'peak tv' nonsense shows (The wire, the Sopranos, Breaking bad) I honestly think Sopranos is the worst. We can also see it clearly when we compare them. What is The Wire? It's a product of real life research about the entire drug trade in Baltimore by a thorough and dedicated journalist who collaborated deeply with all the creatives involved to craft a single vision for a purpose: to humanize and explain how difficult of a problem the drug war was for everyone involved due to those human flaws everyone has and will always have no matter how hard they try. Even so, there WERE aspects of hope and tenacity against these 'inevitable' problems. The only thing The Wire seems to lack, the biggest flaw in a superior story was too many characters, some being pretty much unbelievable (part of truth being weirder than fiction) and the fact that human beings don't actually go through character arcs. No one 'learns' anything, they keep bullheadedly doing what they do no matter what, both the good guys and the bad guys and everyone in between. Even the naïve indifference of the people who don't realize they're not helping is due to their stubbornness to see things from different points of view than their own.
I won't go deep like this for Breaking Bad, but the great things about the show is even more character depth, believability, and HOW people change told in a more narrative driven development which is not as believable but highly satisfying. Set up, pay off, characters who give a shit about what's happening to them and realizing what they can do and what they can't or shouldn't. They might be 'fantastic' in a story sense, but all the characters drive as much action as they can individually.
So why does the Sopranos suck compared to this? No research was done for either how the mob works, how crime works, how psychiatry works, how panic attacks work, or even essential believability about cause and effect. I'll try to keep the next bit short.

We can ignore lack of research if the story was, say, a slapstick comedy. Then all the silly tropes and stereotypes that The Sopranos blatantly wallow in would make some kind of sense. Again, if you compare the two better shows the Wire shows how people's flaws are essential for them and that macro problems are invisible. Kima is a great cop but she's a fricking cop and if a kid kicks a fellow cop she's going Rodney King on the little fricker. Carcetti is a well meaning would be mayor but he's ambitious and desperate and has other things to worry about beyond the drug war. He's too stuck in the world view of being mayor, leaving a good legacy, compromising to get along, that he won't listen to any advice that isn't easy and simple. in other words all the characters that have no story arcs are stuck FOR A REASON, to present the central message of the show.
Why is Tony stuck like a nail in his own ego and narcissism? What the hell is the point in him seeing a therapist at all? No reason, really, a sociopath can't learn. It was all pointless. Same for the other characters, they're stuck because it's gritty. It's 'real' (but not really, it's purely edge for edge's sake) even though no one even went to a shooting range to figure out how guns work in the writing staff or many other massive mistakes in how reality or crime or anything works. It's all soap opera, real lazy shit.
Then why can't it be as good as Breaking Bad with exploding fake meth and McGuyver bullshit plot arcs? The set ups and payoffs in BB are thought out and satisfying. You can't be assed to do this if you're shitting out soap opera garbage. The comparison is no comparison, Sopranos SUCKS.
