Crixus' worth being invested all in Naevia to the point where he turns into the gorilla who doesn't want to frick anymore as all he does is hang around her sitting in the background laughing at dick jokes or holding onto her truly fricking offends me. He lost EVERYTHING that made him cool. Gannicus had to make up for it and I feel like the "cool" character shouldn't have all of that focus fall onto his shoulders just to because they wrote the other ones into the ground or six feet under it.

rome is more historical fiction while spartacus is more frat boy style schlocky action and melodrama

Prequel is rewarding too, it gives backgrounds to many characters improving season 1. Which is a rarity for tv shows.

people get disappointed expecting constant naval battles and while they happen occassional, it is more focused on the politics/war (in the vein of early game of thrones) and character motivations
the love triangles and girl power shit drag it down a bit, especially the last season for the latter, but that's almost par for the course these days
