Back then Goblin’s face being a mask made sense. He was a scooby doo villain in a funny book. But the character & story have grown. He’s a legit threat, & complex villain. Let go of the fricking mask & just make his skin deform when as the Goblin. Doesn’t need to turn into a hulk dragon. Keep it the same, it’s just not stupid rubber.
This is why clones are fricking stupid. It’s best when you ground the clone thing to how it’d actually work in the real world. You can’t just grow a whole person in such a short time and expect them to act 1:1 to the original guy. It doesn’t work like that. They’d start out as a baby and age like normal. Even Venture Bros figured it out. Grounding clones forces writers to not go full moron with the story. Having magic clones creates endless bullshit that’ll give hack writers all the “get out of jail free” cards they want. This character dies? Doesn’t matter, we’ll bring them back as a clone. Or the alternative: the clone was the one who died. The original is still alive out there.

Up to 1945. That was the whole point of Remender's clone Skull, he'd been created in 1945 and was awakened in 2012, a hardcore turbo Nazi with none of the Skull's memories from in between. He didn't win anything since none of that is canon. Gwen died due to Peter's fault if he had simply handed over Norman to the police then maybe he would gotten the help he needed.
There's some artists who've done one-off comics or minis here and there with weirder styles that evoke Ditko's own brand of off-beat work, though I don't think there's many who have gone out of their way to outright directly emulate him. Art like in Spider-Man: Reign (Kaare Andrews) and Hooky (Berni Wrightson, pic related) certainly leans more towards Ditko's weirdness than anything else.
But I can't think of any artists who've been on the mainline books and done a kookier style. Romita Sr's influence justifiably looms pretty large when it comes to Spidey art. The closest I can think of is JRJR's blockier, edgier style when he came back to Amazing in the 2000s, but that's not really Ditko-like.
This is just a temporary thing because being a Spider-Man makes Nightcrawler more acceptable in-universe than being a mutant/himself on account of all the political assassinations he was brainwashed into committing.
I hate Miles and wish Bendis had died in the womb. But the fact the character has been successful in the games and movies is all that matters. They pushed him until they won.

There's some artists who've done one-off comics or minis here and there with weirder styles that evoke Ditko's own brand of off-beat work, though I don't think there's many who have gone out of their way to outright directly emulate him. Art like in Spider-Man: Reign (Kaare Andrews) and Hooky (Berni Wrightson, pic related) certainly leans more towards Ditko's weirdness than anything else.
But I can't think of any artists who've been on the mainline books and done a kookier style. Romita Sr's influence justifiably looms pretty large when it comes to Spidey art. The closest I can think of is JRJR's blockier, edgier style when he came back to Amazing in the 2000s, but that's not really Ditko-like.
