        >Why was he always complaining about the shitty studio or how they get stiffed by the company?
That's because after the Sirius merger those things actually happened. They got moved into a tiny studio compared to the one they had at XM, they weren't allowed to film their shows Which was forward thinking of Opie), the official online presence they were allowed to have was pathetic which is why they relied on Steve's personal band website for so long , and they were working under Mel Karmazin who was a personal friend of Howard Stern who would never allow them to upstage Howie.

Opie was just a turbonormie. He obviously wasn't funny but he didn't deserve to fall as far as the others. He was supposed to be a corny but happy jock like the ones they made fun of.

Yeah if you listen to them 2003-2013 it's basically just Ant and Jimmy drifting further and further away from late 90s shockjock WACKY!!!! shit and Opie still wanting it to be that, then Opie giving up and slowly coming to hate the show

It's a thousand little things, and it also explains a thousand little things. Why was he always complaining about the shitty studio or how they get stiffed by the company? Because he wanted it to be something big, he thought there was still momentum. The other two knew they basically had a good plateau going, like a Rogan type podcast that isn't some big cultural phenomenon anymore but is still very solid. Opie had a constant chip on his shoulder about having to plateau, they didn't. They were fine with being proto-podcasters, Opie wasn't. And Opie's personality was fundamentally stuck in 1996-2003 forever, he was too normie to adapt. He really would have been happier if they had split and he had become some New York syndicated jock doing a slightly edgier form of morning zoo.

You could easily remove Opie from O&A and the show would have been just as good if not better.

Opie was replaced by Sam and now that show has lasted way longer than when Opie was on it with Jim. The fact that even SAME ROBERTS of all people could replace Opie and still have an on-going show speaks volumes to how important he was to the radio show.
