Spidey Villain Universe

Where the frick are they going with this? What's the intention?

I originally thought they were using these films to carve a return for Andrew Garfield, but apparently this is a different continuity as per Rino's origin.

WHAT ARE THESE FRICKING MOVIES

Nothing Ever Happens Shirt $21.68

Yakub: World's Greatest Dad Shirt $21.68

Well for me the Sony movies help me keep perspective and not be a company gay. Turns out the reason the MCU is better isn't because of the characters but the execution because Sony keeps making this SHIT with their characters.

They're hoping to maybe make some money with the 100s of Spider-Man characters they own, but mostly they want to keep the rights to the most popular comic book character of all time without over saturating the market with shitty Spider-Man movies.
It helps that most people don't know or care about Kraven or Morbius, so when the movies bomb Spider-Man can remain unsoiled.

      >helps that most people don't know or care about Kraven or Morbius, so when the movies bomb Spider-Man can remain unsoiled.
But that defeats your first point about making money

I said "hoping to make some money". Spider-Man is such a cash cow that any profit they make off side characters is just a bonus, but they can live with a flop.

      THIS

And I am ok with this.

Then you're a fool. The movies they make with Spider-Man in the MCU is enough to keep the rights. This is them flooding the market trying to make a quick buck

If they were smart they would just do a serialized television series. It would be a hit and I'm sure Disney could be talked into letting them do it with a new Peter

The agreement Sony made with Marvel comics before they were bought out by disney was for movies.

It's funny that they keep trying to make the villains the heroes when they have the rights to heroes.

    >What's the intention?
The intention is to keep the rights to spider-man as long as they can because spider-man is one of the only cash cow IP's Sony has. Because like the agreement Fox had with disney for the X-Men rights, Sony has to make a movie with Spider-Man characters every five to seven years or the rights to him revert to marvel.
Nobody wants a moebius or venom or kraven the hunter movie without spider-man. But these are the only characters they're allowed to play with without having to pay marvel to use MCU characters.

Venom has enough of a following that you can do movies without spidey. The problem is the movies they did do with him are just terrible. Even then, the first venom filled enough seats to warrant a sequel unlike morbius.

That would be even worse what the frick? Why the frick would they do that?

Oh don't worry. They're going to frick up royally and get Miles tangled into this shit

Isn't the sole reason these are made because the company holds rights to a bunch of tangential Spiderman characters but not Spiderman himself? Simple cash grabs to ride on the Spidey fame?

No they own Spider-Man. Feige is probably doing his best to stop them from making Miles the Spider-Man of this universe

They should had just made a 2099 movie. There you don't have the issue of SM not being Peter Parker like it's happening with the Noir series.

Andrew Garfield deserves better than to be part of these shitty projects
If Venom wasn't a sucess this never would've happened

there's a saying "throwing shit at the wall to see if anything sticks"
That's it anon. That's the movies
The shit in this case is Spider-Man lore without said Spider-Man. The wall is people's faces.

    >WHAT ARE THESE FRICKING MOVIES
Venom made over a billion adjusted for inflation. There's your answer. But yeah I don't know why they didn't just put them in the ASM continuity, they aren't even using the same characters except Rhino (and they can just say there's more than one).

This Kraven design rocks, but didn't Sony say some stupid shit about him not hunting any animals or something like that?

yeah he doesn't hunt animals, he hunts people now. it looks fun.

i dont really mind them making movies with spiderman characters but at least use someone interesting like the king pin or someone hot like black cat. these are literally my least favorite spidey "villains".

  14. 11 months ago

why did they make his hunting skills a super power rather then just him being really good? Like I thought Kraven was cool because he was just a dude going toe to toe with super heroes.

Not everything has to be a fricking 80-movie franchise like the MCU, especially when they're limited to JUST Spider-man and his respective villains. Having a bunch of one-off movies gives them more flexibility and freedom with the characters.

though really, the expanded roster of Spider-Man characters they have available allows them to do this indefinitely, meanwhile Marvel has burned through most of their heavy-hitters and prospects of them doing the X-Men right seem slim right now.
Hell, they made both the Vulture and Mysterio into Iron Man villains! The way the MCU operates is like they make most decisions on Friday afternoons right when everyone says yes to anything so they can get out of work on time.

The vulture in morbius was an anomaly which was soon removed by Miguel and co. Venom in no way home was similar.

Avi Arad has been trying to make a sinister six movie happen for years. He probably would have done it if the Raimi/Maguire movies continued, he tried to do it for the Webb/Garfield movies, and hes so desperate for it that he’s actually creating movies of spider-man villains without Spider-Man.

I think it’s his way of trying to make an Avengers movie. Or a suicide squad movie. But he’s been trying for years and years and years to make the Sinister Six happen, and it has interfered with every single Spider-Man franchise and resulted in the creation of the Venom movies.

      >both Venom movies made a remarkable amount of money
maybe he's betting on the right horse. For sure he gets Spider-Man better than Marvel editorial at the very least.

It helps sony hold on to the
    spiderman cinematic rights afaik.

If they dont make a spiderman or a spiderman adjacent movie for a few years, they will lose the right

so in one year we'll get game kraven, which probably everyone is going to love and morbin' kraven which will just be another meme joke.
I wonder if Sony Pictures will get tricked into re-releasing Kraven as well
